It's impossible to demonstrate with just pictures, but Switzerland is by far the most beautiful place I've ever been.

Matt and I climbed Harder Klum ourselves the next day, sans funicular. We thought we were doing okay, though it was a steep hike, when a 60-some Swiss man ran (yes, ran) past us in a lycra bodysuit. Up the mountain.

Maybe next time.

My camera broke in August, so I don't have access to recent pictures. However, there are some low quality ones on facebook that I'd rather share than nothing at all.

This is my beautiful city, Salamanca.

(Béjar, 10/12/11)

This past wednesday was a Spanish holiday, so a few friends and I took the bus to Béjar, a town surrounded by beautiful countryside, intending to hike. We ended up taking more pictures and goofing off than hiking, but the excursion was successful nonetheless.

The sign in the first picture says "Private Property, Entrance is Forbidden," which we clearly ignored in the second.

I love seeing the sights as much as anybody, but my favorite thing about traveling is what you find if you wander. On our last night in Paris, Matt and I ended up behind the Notre Dame Cathedral during sunset along the Seine--perfect unintentional timing.

The roman forum was really important, so they told us. It COULD have been the place where Rome was founded. Maybe. I just thought it was cool that the ruins were so old.

The colosseum was amazing--until I dropped my camera. This is the pre-camera sadness pic. Apparently thumbs up/thumbs down was not actually used in the colosseum. The emperor/nobles/slave owners all wanted their gladiators to live to fight another day and earn them more money (usually only against animals).

(San Sebastian, 10/15/11)

My friend Ellen and I took the night train to San Sebastian this weekend to cut costs on hostels. We didn't have much to do when we got in at 6:30, so we walked to the beach to watch the sun rise. We shivered in the morning cold as the city, sky, ocean, and mountains were slowly revealed.
