This Idea Fascinated Me So Much, That I Went Back To Watch The Conversation. Here's What Mobius Tells

This idea fascinated me so much, that I went back to watch the conversation. Here's what Mobius tells Loki:

"A couple hunters went on a mission somewhere near the Black Sea to find a Variant whose gonna be responsible for 5000 deaths; 5000 deaths that were not in the proper flow of time.

They get there and there's a little hiccup; the Variant is an eight-year-old boy. He was just minding his own business, swimming with his brother, jumping off the dock.

And one of the hunters who had never had trouble pruning before, he had never hesitated but that day he did, he paused. Timelines started to branch, more Variants appeared; happened so fast his partner had to step in and prune the kid.

But by then, cat was out of the bag, couple hunters died; all because that one hunter he lost sight of the big picture. You gotta keep the big picture in mind."

So, let's look at the evidence:

The "Variant" is an eight-year-old boy. We know from Thor that Loki played a prank on him, where he shape-shifted into a snake and then stabbed Thor, when he was picked up. That happened when they were both eight. That checks out. (Never mind that they are not the same age, that could just be the human equivalent.)

In the Void, the other Lokis regard Kid Loki as the king. That might be, because he was the first Loki ever to be pruned.

5000 deaths is a lot, but not for a human war, that the "Variant" could have caused. For Asgard, which at its peak only had about 10K inhabitants, that is a massive hit.

These deaths not being "in the proper flow of time" makes sense, when you consider that Kid Loki was the only one to ever successfully kill Thor. (Main-Timeline Loki did it too, with the Destroyer, but Thor got better.)

My theory: Loki played that prank on Thor, but he either went too far or managed to stab something vital. Thor dies, Loki automatically becomes Crown Prince. But part of Asgard is unhappy about that ( they might or might not know what happened to Thor, but some people would be unhappy with Loki as their potential king anyway) and halve of Asgard's population dies in a civil war.

All of this would explain why Mobius got so preoccupied with studying Lokis and why he, rather then pruning TVA Loki, interrogated him. He wanted to know how this kid could be responsible for so much death. And he wanted to find something good in Loki, something worth saving, in order to assuage his guilt for not having pruned Kid Loki, to heal his "scar tissue".

Damn, I love how much sense this makes. This show is so good!

ok but that kid Mobius couldn’t prune was Loki right. like, that was Loki right. The brothers at the dock. That was Loki and Thor right. It was Loki

Mobius couldn’t kill Loki, chose his burden, and dedicated his life to him instead.

Mobius’s story started and ended with Loki. It had to be Loki.

Story behind your username? :)

My headcanon for an AU where Loki grows up on Jötunheimr, is that he'd be more of a scholar than a warrior.

I think the part above Crowley's signature reads:

a. All suits, requests, demands or other communication required or permitted by the terms of this Agreement will be given in writing and delivered to the Parties of the Agreement as follows

A few days ago the contract Crowley signs in S1 came up on discord. Being the crazy person that I am, I set on the quest of finding out what it actually says. I couldn't make out everything, especially at the end where Crowley's hand and the sparks obscure the lines but I made out most of it (transcript below the break).

A Few Days Ago The Contract Crowley Signs In S1 Came Up On Discord. Being The Crazy Person That I Am,
A Few Days Ago The Contract Crowley Signs In S1 Came Up On Discord. Being The Crazy Person That I Am,

One of the things I like the most is that the contract specifically says "Anthony Crowley of Mayfair, London." In the book, Hastur tells Crowley not to use that name: "No. Not A. J. Crowley. Your real name.” Crowley nodded mournfully, and drew a complex, wiggly sigil on the paper. It glowed redly in the gloom, just for a moment, and then faded."

Interesting things:

The contract is referred to as "the Agreement" - HA!

The contract is between Hastur and Ligur ("the Customer") and Crowley ("the Service Provider"). Not with Hell itself or with Satan.

The contract never actually says what "the Service" is nor does it say how much Crowley is supposed to be paid (so is it just delivering the baby to the convent, or all the upbringing too?)

There is a part that says Hastur and Ligur will pay the costs when the operation is done. But later on it also says that Crowley will not be reimbursed for his own expenses. Talk about being shortchanged!

Hastur and Ligur will NOT provide any help

Crowley must contribute to a retirement plan (Superannuation) for himself and his employees if he has any (how thoughtful)

And lastly, I learned the UK has Superannuations and it is not just an Australian thing! (go figure! the things GO teaches me)

So here you have it. A contract from Hell! literally If anyone can make out the words I couldn't or finds an error, please let me know and I'll update this one.

Full transcript:

[Line covered by clip and Ligur’s fingers] (the "Agreement")

HASTUR AND LIGUR of HELL (the "Customer")

AND

The Service Provider is responsible for paying any Superannuation Guarantee contributions that may be required in relation to the work performed by the Service Provider or by the employees of the Service Provider under this Agreement c. The above Compensation includes all applicable sales tax, and dues as required by law

Provision of Extras a. The Customer will not provide any resources, assistance or extra for use by the Service Provider in providing the Services Reimbursement of Expenses b. The Service Provider will not be reimbursed for expenses incurred by the Service Provider in connection with providing(?) the Services of this Agreement. Independence of Services c. In providing the Sevices under the Agreement it is expressly agreed that the Service Provider is acting as an independent contractor and not as an employee. Having just smashed my toe by accidentally dropping my phone one it, I can say I feel this meme.

Wish I could have screamed like Viggo Mortensen, but that would have spooked my neighbors. Also, wouldn't have minded a crown afterwards.
