Mary of the Shroud. This is one of my favourite paintings of Our Lady, based upon a feminized version of Christ's face as seen on the Shroud of Turin. There are several of these "reconstructions", but this one has always touched my heart.

Does anyone else actually read a newspaper anymore, digital or hard copy edition, or am I just that old? I have NEVER gotten my news from social media. It just seemed to biased and/or unreliable. I also don't actually read all of my local newspaper; really only what applies to me or effects me. It's too stressful reading everything else in the whole wide world.

An attitude of gratitude

This is a necessity in today's world of whining, complaining, griping, and entitlement. It's good to literally practice this at the end of the day. So today I am grateful for some good deals at the grocery store which allowed me to not spend a lot of money; and for a delicious, made-from-scratch dinner; and for a lovely, brisk, long walk afterwards in the cool of the evening (and as a bonus, it didn't even rain like it was threatening to!)

Homeschooling

For those who think home schooled kids are indoctrinated just replace that last now biased word with the concept of a worldview and you will realize that all children are "indoctrinated" whether passively or impassively. A schooled child who is bullied, ignored at home, and left to fend for themselves, is also being indoctrinated. They are taught that they are worthless and that the world doesn't care. A schooled child who is taught whatever is on the local school board's agenda whether that agrees or disagrees with their parents' beliefs is also being indoctrinated. Childhood is formation time, and all children are being formed. doctrine /dŏk′trĭn/

Beauty

So for all the Catholics out there, who is in "your crew"? Who are the saints you repeatedly turn to? Mine are St. Luke, St. Joseph, the Holy Canadian Martyrs (Jean de Brébeuf and co.), St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Dymphna, St. Josémaria Escriva, and St. Zita of Lucca. There are occasionally others, but those are the main ones. My favourite Marian apparition is Our Lady of Knock.
