Omg. Divorce baby is supposed to be an accident. I don’t think anyone tries to have kids 16 years apart, but it still a good example of how change affects Janey and how she tolerates change better when it involves the constants in her life.
my brain rot is spreading! mom said she would share thoughts on divorce baby today!!!!!
Janey and I are fully aware divorce baby would be an accident, but did her parents not tell her she has to make mistakes to learn from them? Make some mistakes, parents.
in the ideal divorce baby world, it is a boy. to complete the family set. as for step anything, she might do better with it if barb had one first, bc she would be living with that stepparent and her mom more often than not. it would make transition easier. good luck with that happening tho. barb is focused on work and being the best mom ever. janey isn’t complaining. it could be a hank maclean baby.
in this next chapter, we’re gonna talk about why janey has issues with the overall problem, change:
other than it would be hard for her to accept an extra parent, you’ve gotta consider, at the base of it all, she has a mom and she has a dad. she’s also autistic and resists things that cause change. not everyone they bring home is a winner, okay? her resistance to change will not change regardless of age, which is why it’s important for both of her parents to be there for major changes. because she is going to internalize change as something she did wrong.
it’s just who she is. she can be convinced with them agreeing that the change isn’t as bad as her brain is making it, because mom and dad are her constant. if they’re making the change together, it’s not as scary and overwhelming.
some things she just won’t agree with them on. It’s how they approach it and her that makes all the difference.
I think it’s important to note that divorce baby is not the same as a step sibling for janey, because it would not be that big of a change for her. she is, for the most part, parented by both her parents, so a happy little fwb baby wouldn’t shake the foundation of the parenting scenario, but she is still a teen and will not feel the same about a step sibling. a step sibling is a change to not only her, but it changes the parenting dynamic and she’s going to react to a step sibling like any teenager would. and that probably won’t be well. she might warm up to the idea, but she won’t if you:
-drop it on her without both of her parents there to combat any negative feelings from jump.
-don’t let her decide how much contact she wants, which could be none.
-tell her that’s how it is, because her feelings are valid too.
we got a maybe on divorce baby.
so if divorce baby is a girl, it had to sound nice with Janey: so Lily, or Josie, or Kassie (after her aunt). They aren’t too adventurous on names.
if it’s a boy: after a dead president, so Thomas, George, Abraham, John (it’s funny for reasons).
It’s funny bc she probably gets no say in her sibling’s name.
Janey and coopers: on board for divorce baby.
Janey: hasn’t touched the topic with her mom. Mom scary corporate lady. Daddy cool and chill and agreeable with the right motivation.
you should all know, i’ve given divorce baby a name if it’s a boy or a girl. divorce baby lives now. I will die on divorce baby hill.
janey just wants to say, happy father’s day to her dad. her gift is not making it grandfather’s day, and for a select few, a nice card requesting divorce baby.
key westworld points:
-janey is still separated from her parents. it probably happened in the chaos of hosts attacking humans, since her family would've been fortunate enough to afford the amusement parks. -we can set it further in the show and have an instance of mistaken identity. Janey for Frankie, but amnesia would likely have to be in play. -we can do a fallout westworld run and janey is raised by a synth, because any opportunity i get to take her out of the vaults i will. the synth is her companion, like the fallout games. it could be great
i am thinking more thoughts.
would cooper name a baby after a dead president too? we think it’s likely.
divorce baby looks more like cooper where janey looks more like barb.
How would Janey feel with a step sibling?
that is a good question, and I cannot imagine she’d be as accepting of a step sibling as she would one where the grounds are even like divorce baby. I guess it would depend on how the relationship is before there is one.
If there’s a strained/bad one, she’s going to assume she was being replaced if she’s a teen or younger. She’s dealing with hormones and teen logic. She would be hard to convince that she was more than just a memory from a former life, and I doubt the relationship would be good with the child either. She would be pretty shut off immediately about it.
If there’s a good relationship with the parent in question, she may feel a little better about it and not revolt if given time to come to terms with it.
in no case should one of her parents drop the news on her that she’s going to have a step sibling without both of them (being her parents who have a constant of joint parenting) being there to ease the blow and weather the storm.
Janey would be an awesome big sister to divorce baby. She’d probably act better too. After the ur replacing me wtf wears off.
janey wants to name her sibling josie or james. barb, cooper do not let her name ur divorce baby.
the world is probably lucky in the verses the Howard’s aren’t together and actively avoid each other. they probably couldn’t do casual right and give janey a sibling she didn’t know she wanted.
helluva graduation gift, mom and dad.
She knows they don't know anything the minute she turns to move on, coming up short because someone said something of use. She weighs her options, knowing she couldn't tell him everything, but if he had information, she needed it.
"It doesn't really matter, does it? He did a job I'm personally invested in, so I wanted to ask him a few things. That's all. Not everyone who worked on A Man and His Dog is around to talk about it, and he apparently is." She snips, because in a place like this, being rude was better than being polite. "Anyway, if I wanted to hire him, they're my caps, so I'm not sure that concerns you either."
Janey stood a little straighter, tightened her grip on her pack, and finally turned to actually look at the stranger. "So, can you give me something of use to find him, or are you just interested in questioning my motives?"
She wouldn't be intimidated by a ghoul she's never met. She was too busy looking for one that was probably buried somewhere if her other intel was to be believed.
He was observant, had to be in the business he was in so he paid attention to every single person who walked into the bar. Everyone had their tells and he could usually spot trouble before it became trouble. Though it wasn't like every bar erupted into trouble like in the movies. People had a business to run and even in a lawless place like the Wasteland there was a decorum to be followed.
And he'd seen all manner of people come into what passed for bars out here even people who wouldn't have been allowed in a bar before the war, before the bombs. But it was still unusual and he eyed the girl suspiciously when she'd entered. Every now and again his gaze flickered her way wondering what she could possibly be doing in a place like this alone.
It was strange, but not really the strangest thing he'd ever seen. At least until he heard his name out of her mouth. That was unusual. Mostly the people who wanted to find him knew who he was on sight. Of course, why would some kid know who he was? And more, why would they want to?
"And what're you lookin' for him for? You don't look like someone tryin' to hire a bounty hunter."
Janey: GO AHEAD. Get me ANY stepdad, mom! Also Janey, seeing Henry MacLean: NOT THAT ONE.
She might have talked too much, because there was now a woman telling her everything she never thought she'd hear. Someone knew and knew where her dad was. It had to be some sort of lame ass joke. There was no way in this hellscape that she could be so lucky. Still, the woman, Lucy, was persistent and adamant. It was kind of hard to ignore her in Vault-Tec blue no matter how ratty it was now.
She needed to stick her head between her legs and scream into the abyss. It's taken years to find anything, and now a stranger was trying to hand it all to her. No, she wasn't alright. Everything was too big and too small.
"Are you fucking crazy?" She asked between shaky breaths. "Are you actually crazy? Because if you know my dad, He's gotta be like sixty or something."

they'd only separated because he needed to get himself together. they'd cover more ground and hopefully find his family, too, and that was an added bonus. by luck or fate, she found janey first, and she knew by watching the woman swagger that she, just like her father, was straight out of the old western movies she'd watched with her dad back home.
she took convincing, but lucy was nothing if not persistent, explaining everything as best she could to janey. she's well versed in what a panic attack looks like, having witnessed and soothed her baby brother through so many before. janey was in a full on panic.

"are you alright?" she asks carefully, keeping her distance in case she didn't like being touched like norm.
accepting!
College and boys and dads were stupid. She didn't understand why or how her mom did it everyday in the corporate world. She settled against her shoulder and pouted. Nothing had changed in the years she's tried to get his attention. All she got was a lecturing phone call and how disappointed he was. It wasn't fair.
"He called me, just to yell at me about my behavior in Aruba. Not to ask me how I was doing or why I punched someone in the face." She vented, and she snuggled closer. "It wouldn't look good for his new release, he said. Like, I'm sorry the media cares about your old family?"
"And how was I supposed to know! He didn't even give me the chance to explain. AND my boyfriend saw it and broke up with me thinking the worst, and everyone on campus is talking about it. How did you even do it? How do you stay so graceful and poised through everything like you're a saint or something?"
She huffed, irritated herself all over again, and she grumbled. "I should've just stayed home with you and avoided the public like I've been doing since I was thirteen!"
@janeyjhoward ⇒ ❝ don’t leave. please. ❞ [vintage verse with divorced parents please. grown janey on top of it still living with her mom]

she's much too old to be crawling into bed with her very much grown daughter. she's still sighing and waving her over, because she'd always be a mother first. barb moves pillows until she's resting with her back against the headboard, opening her arms to her daughter like it's any other tuesday.
"alright. i'll stay until you fall asleep." she agrees, and she starts to hum.
it doesn't take long before she has a chest full of the only thing she's felt she's done right it her life. it's nice to still be needed when everything about society says she should've lost her a long time ago. she presses a kiss to the top of her daughter's head.
and she knows it's a matter of time before janey needs her less, quicker still would she take that final step out into life she's been avoiding. barb knows it's selfish, too. when janey was ready, barb would be, too; ready to dust her off and send her back out into the great unknown.
until then, she'll be here. she'll be right where her daughter needs her to be, and she'll be damn proud of the job she and her ex-husband did to raise an amazing person.
until then, she'll sing her baby to sleep and hold her when she cries over people who've hurt her. she's going to make breakfast, ask about her day, and she's going to cherish every second she gets before the world gets her girl.
maybe, barb's a liar. maybe, she'll stay until morning with her baby safe and loved. maybe, she'll remember the very details of the moment to reflect on when her girl moves on.
it didn't matter. her baby needed her.

meme, accepting! also have the song in question: x
i’ve realized that Janey could, in theory, run in to either of her parents in the wasteland, and they’d know her without her realizing who they are unless they do something to give themselves away, and I want this now.she was freaking 6-7 the last time she saw them and only has a really ratty picture she kept in her pocket like her daddy did.
anyway, today is abt writing verses, and plotting for new ones, so you guys are free to come on over and we can plot some out. there’s tons in my stores that i want to do with janey. So, plotting call maybe? u can also add me on discord to discuss: bos.max
