A Ghost Amongst The Living (consequences Of A Cognitive Death.)

Page 1 of a comic featuring Goro Akechi and Akira Kurusu/Joker from Persona 5 Royal. They are both standing out in front of Penguin Sniper, both leaning against a wall while people-watching.
Panel 1: Akira says: "People don't seem to recognise you anymore."
Panel 2: Akechi, side-eyeing him, replies: "Maybe my wish was to be left unbothered for once."
Panel 3: Akira tilts his head towards him and grins: "Somehow I doubt that."

Page 2.
Panel 1: Akira looks pensive and asks: "But really, isn't that... weird to you?"
Panel 2: Akechi tucks some hair behind his ear and answers: "Not particularly."
Panel 3: As Akechi explains, there is an illustration of some sort of performer under the light of a spotlight, grinning at a presumed audience while someone who resembles Akechi is seen walking away from the stage behind them. Akechi continues: "The masses are fickle. If you step away from the spotlight, someone else will simply take your place. It's by no means a new, or even uncommon phenomenon."

Page 3.
Panel 1: Akira frowns, and distractedly tugs at his own bangs as he says: "Still, it feels... Wrong."
Panel 2: Akechi frowns, looking a little distraught.
Panel 3: The panels go tilted. Akechi turns to Akira, suddenly with a charming grin plastered on his face, and says, brightly: "Oh, I didn't know you valued my celebrity status so much, Kurusu-kun!"
Panel 4: Still in a tilted panel, Akechi bows a little, winking. He continues: "I'm profoundly sorry I can no longer be your famous arm candy--"
Panel 5: In a straightened panel, Akira rolls his eyes, tilting his head back and cutting him off: "You know that's not what I meant."

Page 4.
Panel 1: Akira looks up, saying: "It's been happening for a while now, ever since..."
Panel 2: A shot of the bulkhead door at Shido's palace. Akira hesitates.
Panel 3: Looking a little apprehensive, Akira rubs at the back of his neck. He finishes: "Shido's palace."
Panel 4: A shot of Akechi at Shido's palace. He's sitting on the ground against the bulkhead door, wearing his Black Mask attire and clutching at his stomach, which appears to be bleeding. He's surrounded by shadows that are looming over him. Akira, offscreen, says: "You... disappeared."
Panel 5: A shot of someone holding a phone, showing comments on the Phansite, focusing specifically on one that reads "Show yourself, Akechi!". Offscreen, Akira continues: "Barely anyone talked about or even mentioned you after..."
Panel 6: Akira, wearing a hoodie and with a bandaged face, walks past a grafittied wall in Shibuya that has a poster of Akechi plastered on it. The poster has been defaced and partially torn off the wall. He finishes saying: "And then... Nothing. Almost like you were never really there..."

Page 5.
Panel 1: Akechi, looking unamused and with his arms now crossed, says: "Is it really that surprising to you?"
Panel 2: Akira glances towards him, muttering: "Huh?"
Panel 3: A shot of Akechi amidst a crowd. He has his back to the viewer, and the crowd all resemble shadows. Offscreen, Akechi elaborates: "That there's no fanfare when an orphan, an unwanted child with no living or caring relatives, an assassin who made no connections beyond mere necessity--"
Panel 5: A crowd shot filled with faceless people. Offscreen, Akechi concludes: "Vanishes one day?"

Page 6.
Panel 1: Akechi, now looking visibly upset, clutches at his own arms. He says: "Just who do you think is going to be making that call? My coworkers? My classmates? My fans?" while Akira begins the motion to stand up.
Panel 2: A cut-in of Akechi's eyes as he frowns. He scoffs: "Please."
Panel 3: Akira, now having moved in front of Akechi, rubs at the back of his head a little awkwardly, while Akechi pushes himself off the wall he had been leaning against. Akira mutters: "I just... I thought..." and Akechi responds: "What, that I would've made an impression?"

Page 7.
Panel 1: Akechi turns his back to Akira, glancing at him over his shoulder as he states: "Allow me to tell you something, Akira."
Panel 2: A shot of Kichijoji. Faceless people stand around the street, going about their business. Akechi continues: "Most are not lucky enough to be remembered."
Panel 3: A close up of Akechi's gloved hand as he clenches it into a fist, concluding: "And I've certainly never been lucky."
Panel 4: Akira looks upset, flinching a little at his words.

Page 8.
Panel 1: Akechi begins to walk away wordlessly.
Panel 2: Akira starts to reach out a hand to stop him, but hesitates, then pulls back.
Panel 3: Akechi continues to walk away, as do the other faceless people who were standing around before. Before he can go too far, Akira says: "I can't imagine ever forgetting you."

Page 9.
Panel 1: A close up of Akechi's eyes. He's wide-eyed, apparently startled by Akira's words.
Panel 2: Akechi frowns.
Panel 3: He looks at his left hand, and then grips tightly onto nothing.
Panel 4: Akechi begins to turn around.

Page 10: Akechi looks back at Akira, holding his hand to his chest as he says: "Then don't."
The streets behind him are shown to be empty.

Super weird shuake comic without Joker (except in voice).

Since I drew plenty of happy(?) shuake comics, I guess Goro gets to be miserable again.

I wanted to draw Akechi losing grip on reality after coming back from doing his job in Mementos because I think it’s pretty reasonable to experience reality blur after years of doing that line of work. He basically uses Joker as an anchor to reality and asks random questions to ground himself. They seem like they do knowledge battles/debates pretty often during their meetups hence such questions.

I was thinking a lot about one of my favorite song from Cowboy Bebop Knocking on Heaven’s Door. The comic’s inspired by the song.
