You barely had two sips of your coffee before it went cold, but you couldn’t get yourself to move once you laid down. Curling in on yourself just felt good, it was the only thing that felt good. Everything else is numb, your thoughts, your emotions. 

You perk up when you hear Sadie’s voice. “You need to leave now.” 

“I know she’s here Sads, just let me-”

“She’s not here Raul, you need to go.” 

“She’s not here?” He sobs out, making your heart clench.

“No.” 

“Where’d, where’d she go? She won’t answer her phone, Sadie I’m scared.” 

“She’s not here Raul, that’s all I can say.” Sadie pulls the door closer to her body, to hide your shivering frame from his view.

“Was she upset, was she angry, how was she?” Raul asks, trying to wipe his red swollen eyes. 

“She’s numb.” 

He bites his newly pierced lip, nodding his head with his hands on his hips. “Okay, can I wait here for her?” 

“No.” 

“Sadie,” He pleads. “I’m so scared right now. I can’t lose her, you know how much she means to me.”

“Then maybe you shouldn’t have been with another girl after cancelling on her.” Sadie snapped. 

“I wasn’t!” He cries, “Peter met Brooke and mentioned that he had brothers, so he arranged this meet up and I was there because Shawn dragged me to it, claiming he didn’t want to go alone. I had plans to come here after, to tell her everything so if she heard anything she knew first.”

“Why’d you cancel on her?” 

“There was seriously a party, it’s happening right now, I planned to drop in here for a few hours before I went because I missed her and knew cancelling was a bad idea.” 

“Raul,” Sadie stopped him. “All I’m hearing are excuses.” 

“They’re no-”

“Listen to me.” She interrupts him. “If you truly cared for Y/n then you wouldn’t have cancelled on the last five dates, you wouldn’t had gone to Starbucks knowing it was a set up with other girls, and you’re fucking brothers would know about her. If you cared about her, you wouldn’t make her your dirty little secret.” 

With that Sadie slammed the door in his face and locked it before climbing back into her bed and huffing as she resumed the movie she was watching on her laptop. 

“Sadie,” You sit up, holding your pounding head. 

“Yeah Sweetheart?” 

“What do you think I should do?” 

She stares at you for a moment, blinks a few times and then sighs. “It’s kind of up to how you feel. If you’re, well, if you’re-”

“If I’m in love with him.” You finish for her.

“Yeah, if you are then you owe it to yourself to hear him out. He, well Y/n he was pretty upset. I’ve never seen Raul show any emotion other than anger, but he was just upset.” 

You sigh and look down to your fingers. 

“Do you? Love him?”

“Yeah, I do. I just don’t know if he loves me back, or if he could.”

“Then maybe you should talk to him about it, before you get hurt even more.”

Xiaojie 'Emily' Tan, 49

Tan, 49, was the mother of Jami Webb, a recent graduate from the University of Georgia. She was a licensed massage therapist and the owner of Young’s Asian Massage, along with other businesses in the area, including another spa and a tanning salon, according to state records. She was “the sweetest, most kind-hearted, giving, never-met-a-stranger person,” a friend told Atlanta’s WSB-TV. Just one day away from her 50th birthday when she was killed, according to USA Today, Tan was described by her daughter as thoughtful, devoted to her family, and looking forward to traveling in her retirement.

Hyun Jung Grant, 51

Hyun Jung Grant was a Korean immigrant who worked at Atlanta’s Gold Spa. Her son Randy Park, 23, shared a tribute to his mother on GoFundMe: He said his mother was a single parent who “dedicated her whole life to providing for my brother and I.” She loved dancing and sushi, according to Park, who told The Daily Beast, “She wasn’t just my mother. She was my friend.” Park, who now has to raise his brother alone, is not buying law-enforcement officials’ suggestion that the attack was motivated by a supposed sex addiction, not racism. “That’s bullshit,” he said.

Delaina Ashley Yaun Gonzalez, 33

Yaun Gonzalez, 33, was a mother of two — 13-year-old Mayson and 8-month-old Mia. She had worked all day on Tuesday at the Waffle House a few shops down from Tan’s spa business. She had been looking forward to having a relaxing night out with her husband, Mario Gonzalez, whom she married only last year, and the couple had reportedly never been to Young’s Asian Massage before. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, family members say that Mario Gonzalez, who survived the shooting, is “taking [the situation] hard.” Delaina Ashley Yaun Gonzalez’s friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to address her funeral costs.

Paul Andre Michels, 54

Michels, 54, was a handyman at Young’s Asian Massage and the owner of an electric company. He was only recently hired for the role and excited to take it on after looking for more work during the pandemic, according to a friend who spoke with CBS46. An army veteran originally from Detroit, Michels is one of nine siblings and is survived by his wife of more than two decades. In an interview with the Guardian, his brother John Michels emphasized his kindness. “He was just a regular guy, very good-hearted, very soft-natured,” he said, while noting that Michels had expressed an interest in getting involved in the massage business.

Yong Ae Yue, 63

A licensed massage therapist, she was laid off at the start of the pandemic last year and was excited to finally start shifts at the spa again, her son Elliott Peterson, 42, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday morning. Yue’s youngest child, Robert Peterson, 38, agreed, recalling their mother as a kind and deeply caring woman. If you stopped by her house, she’d sit you down, ask if you’d eaten, and then insist on a trip to H Mart grocery store so she could make a meal.

Daoyou Feng, 44

Daoyou Feng, 44, began working at Young’s Asian Massage in recent months, according to Tan’s friend Hynson. She was kind and quiet, he said. Her relatives could not be reached for comment.

Soon Chung Park, 74

Soon Chung Park, 74, was also a worker at an Atlanta spa. Her family didn’t respond when reached for comment. Park previously lived in New York, where she has relatives, her son-in-law, Scott Lee, told the New York Times. “She got along with her family so well,” Lee told the newspaper.

Suncha Kim, 69

Suncha Kim, 69, worked at one of the spas in Atlanta. Her family could not be reached for comment. Kim, a grandmother, was married for more than 50 years, a family member told the Times. She enjoyed line dancing and worked hard, the relative said.

Elcias Hernandez-Ortiz, 30

Hernandez-Ortiz, 30, was the only survivor of the victims who were shot on Tuesday, and he remains hospitalized for multiple gunshot wounds in his “forehead, throat, lungs and stomach,” according to the Washington Post. He was shot while standing outside in the shopping center where Young’s Asian Massage is located. “He came from nothing and has come a long way; that is why I have faith he will survive this,” his wife Flor Gonzalez told the Washington Post. Gonzalez has also set up a GoFundMe to help with the costs of Hernandez-Ortiz’s medical care.

Raul was shaking his right leg and biting on his pinky nail when you walked in the door to Joe’s Coffee House. His eyes were puffy and red, his poor curls were the messiest you’d ever seen them.

“Hi Honey.” He stood, clearing his throat that was raspy and low, as if he had been screaming all night. “Um, I got you a peppermint mocha, but if you want something else, I can get it for you.” He pointed to the cup on the table he was sitting at.

“You know peppermint is my favorite,” You smile, “Thank you.” 

You were hurt, and confused, but he was being nervously cute. It just made you wanna hold him and never let anything ever hurt him. 

You both sit down, he watches you as you take a sip of the coffee humming at the delicious taste. 

“I’m sorry Honey.” He blurted. “I’m sorry for everything. For cancelling on you at all. For going on that dumb ass coffee meet up. For getting caught, and not doing anything in the moment. For not chasing after you. For being a shitty partner in this relationship.” 

“Is that what this is?” You ask, setting your cup down.

I’m so sorry, but I’m almost up with my thesis and it takes basically all my time; also this chapter was getting way too long so I cut it and decided to make the second part the third chapter of this story, and when I was reading there were a lot of things a didn’t like it so I wrote it again I hope you guys like it. With your cheeks still wearing the color red, Taehyung starts walking again, with Jiwoo by his side, and from what you’re seeing the city is surrounded by forest “Hey, Taehyung is the city surrounded by forest?” “Yes, most of us, hybrids, like to maintain the connection we have with nature, sometimes we like to go and transform so we can run or simply act more with our animal side. There’s also a part facing the sea, for sea creatures to also have their natural habitat” He explains to you, and you’re wondering how much strength does he have because you’re in his arms, walking for who knows how long and talking as if none of the above is happening. “Mm Taehyung?” He looks at Jiwoo for a moment acknowledging her, before turning his eyes towards the road ahead again “Shouldn’t we take N/N to a hospital so they can look at her ankle?” After Jiwoo mentions the word “hospital” Taehyung looks at your eyes for a moment before looking at your swollen ankle and then looks back at you with uncertain eyes “What is it? There are no hospitals here? Hospitals are where sick people get treated to get better” An amused smile appears on his face after your poor explanation of a what a hospital is “I know what a hospital is Beautiful” As if on cue your cheeks get red again after he says the word “We have hospitals here, actually is one of the best in the world” Now you’re the one with an awkward smile, what were you thinking? No hospitals? In a world that looks like is better than yours? “I want to take you but I don’t want to get away from you” He mumbles in almost an inaudible voice, but you got most of it thanks to the proximity between you two, and apparently Jiwoo has an incredible ear because she covers her mouth when she starts laughing. After a few seconds his face lights up as if he got the best idea ever “Let’s go to my apartment, I know a doctor, a female one who already has a partner, who can treat you” finishing the sentence he looks at you with that boxy smile you’re falling in love with Wait, what? What are you thinking F/N? You barely know the man you think to yourself “Wait, what does it matter if she gets treated by a woman?” Jiwoo asks and the leopard turns to her like she grew a second head, but she’s not looking at him instead her eyer are on the road ahead and continues “and what that she has a partner? I don’t think that should matter when a patient is treated” while finishing the sentence she looks at him, surprise fills her features by the incredulous eyes watching her “what?” Jiwoo says in a tiny voice “because I don’t want to take any risks” Taehyung answers with a voice that drips obviousness.

At this point you know that somehow you’re in a parallel universe, and you’re pretty sure Jiwoo is thinking the same. To make a point you start a list in your head: 1. It’s not normal for a human to have animal traits as body parts, 2. Humans don’t catch smells from others, just like body odor, but Taehyung is talking about a smell coming from me, 3. What the hell is a Connection? He talks about as if it’s the most important thing in life, 4. Also, how is he so freakishly strong? He’s carrying me and my backpack, which was pretty heavy when I carried descending that damn hill, 5. How can I trust him, when all the things coming from his mouth are so bizarre, I mean he’s talking about me being his partner by that weird smell reason, 6. He’s not taking me to a hospital but to HIS apartment, just because he “doesn’t want take risks” what does that even mean?. On Taehyung’s side the thoughts going through his mind are similar How these two human women don’t know about The Connection? I mean this is known globally; the only thing he knows for sure is that he’s not going to let his partner get away from him. Unknowingly to the other, both of you think We need to talk.

Walking through the city, the sun it’s high in the sky indicating it was probably noon, surprising the two girls. It doesn’t look like a big city, but it’s still busy with life. There are cars, taxis, buses, very modern buildings, things they didn’t expect, because of the looks of Taehyung, despise his clothes, the two girls thought they were going to find something old fashion and a little bit barbaric, but they were speechless with the beauty of this city. Although there is something that surprised them: the people, mostly, were half animal half human, some of them seemed to be completely humans but it wasn’t an information easily proofed.

The three of you seemed to be closer to your destination because Taehyung couldn’t stop talking, though he seems to be talking with himself forgetting you’re in his arms “I’m going to take such care of you…we are going to have beautiful cubs because you’re so beautiful…I’m going to give you everything you want in the world, because you’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen and the prettiest girl deserves everything she wants” and with each phrase coming out of his lips you’re eyes get bigger and you’re face gets so red Jiwoo thought you were gonna faint from such quantity of blood in your face, something Taehyung didn’t mind because to him it means you’re liking everything he’s saying, instead of embarrassing you. To your relieve, you three stop in front of a tall building “this is where I live” Taehyung says. Still in his arms, your little group get in the elevator, the hybrid marking the number 10. Taehyung descends the elevator first walking through a hall until getting in front of a door, Jiwoo following close by, he opens it revealing a very modern and a very cozy apartment; when he enters with you, you think is very much like him, the décor goes with his bubbly personality.

Already inside by the door Jiwoo asks “Taehyung we need to rest her ankle properly and call the doctor” you look up at him “Oh, sure…let’s go” He walks towards the hall, and opens the door at the end of the it. Inside it’s a bed big enough for at least three people, he puts you down on the bed with the most utter care “Thank you, Taehyung” you give him a small smile “I really love when you say my name” he whispers. Raising up from your side, he walks to the door “Jiwoo, you can install here” feeling nobody is following him, the hybrid walks back to his room encountering with two girls already asleep. But F/N should sleep with me in my room it’s the first thought that crosses his mind, although you’re sleeping so soundly he closes the door with a pout on his face.

Taehyung walks to the kitchen and with cellphone in hand he calls the doctor “Hi Nia, how are you? I’m glad. Hey, I need your help. My partner had an accident and her ankle is swollen, could you please come and check it out?…Yes, no problem you can come later…See you” with that resolved he goes back to his room. Your face is facing the door, hypnotized by your face he walks towards your sleeping form seating on the floor next to you. He just watches your face, the little movements you make in your sleep, the way you snore and drool yourself but even then he can’t find a single flaw. Maybe because of the earlier events of the day he yawns starting to feel so tired, he falls sleep and unconsciously transforms into his animal form next to you in his bed.

After a few hours you wake by two things, first you feel so hot like having a radiator next to you but this radiator has fur and whiskers, and second the doorbell is ringing. Opening your eyes you see a leopard next to you, still not processing everything that happened to you that day you scream at top of your lungs waking up a sleeping Jiwoo, apparently next you on an unknown bed, who starts screaming with you when spotting the big carnivore next to you, and a sleeping leopard that almost falls off the bed “what? What happened? Are you alright?” The freaking leopard just talked is your first thought after Taehyung spoke. Somehow after hearing his voice the events of today start to go through your mind, but just to be sure you ask “Taehyung?” And the leopard, with, what it looks like, a worried face answers “Yes” and just then he notices he’s on the bed and not next to it like he remembers, and on top of that he’s in four legs “I’m a leopard, right?” You and Jiwoo, cowering behind you, nod to the animal “I’ll be right back” He walks towards, what it appears to be, the bathroom.

After a few minutes, and the doorbell still ringing, a human dressed Taehyung comes out of the bathroom “I’m so sorry, I don’t know when I fell asleep or when I transformed, it usually happens when I’m too tired…I’m sorry” in the last apology he’s looking at you in the eyes, but when he sees you kneeling he gasps “F/N your damaging more your ankle” it wasn’t until he mentioned it that you felt the pain in your ankle “Ouch…” “Please, lay down” He, with a bit of uncertainty and shaking hands, reaches to help you accommodate your body; “Taehyung, the doorbell has been ringing for several minutes now” Jiwoo remembers, and like he just realized that he answers “Oh, yeah…I’m gonna see who it is”.

Taehyung stands up and exits his bedroom to head up to the door, to open to, who he assumes, is his friend. Opening the door he finds the familiar face of a bunny hybrid, Nia. “Hi, Nia” he steps aside so the woman could enter the apartment, “You do know I’ve been ringing for like forever right?” she says with a slight annoyed tone in her voice “and I heard some screaming, are you okay? Who else is here? As far as you’ve told me, you live alone” he stars to respond in order “I know you’ve been ringing for a while, I’m sorry…it’s just that…something happened” his response come between pauses “One of those who screamed is the one who needs your help…and from now on I won’t be living alone anymore” he says the last with the biggest smile Nia has seen in Taehyung’s face since they met “Wait, you said partner on the phone…did you find them?” she asks with a smile of her own “Yes” he giggles saying the word “Oh My God Taehyung that’s amazing I know you’ve been dying to find them…take me to them so I can see what needs my help” “Yes, she’s in my room” he starts walking towards the wall and eventually enters the room with the doctor tailing behind.

Jiwoo and F/N are on the bed, the first is sitting while the latter is laying down with her ankle on top of one of the pillows; you both see them enter the room, Taehyung wearing a small smile and a woman with bunny ears, apparently, attached to her head, wearing a doctor coat. “Hi, you’re probably the one I’m checking? My name is Nia” “Yeah, I’m F/N…I hurt my ankle when I was chased by wolves” you explain looking at your swollen ankle “Okay, let me check it” she says sitting down next to your ankle and starts applying some pressure to the red area, when she touches the most swollen part you let out a hiss and retrieve your ankle a little bit, this action makes Taehyung, who’s standing next to you, come closer and let’s out a low growl, thinking his friend is hurting his partner, which makes the ears of the doctor bend a little bit. Watching this, you immediately put your hand on his, almost unconsciously, and try to calm him down which works because instead of paying attention to the bunny he looks at your hand on top of his with surprise filling his face, since it’s the first time you have initiated physical contact with him.

After the doctor finishes touching your ankle she applies ointment in the affected area, and starts wrapping your ankle in bandages saying “Well, F/N you suffered a sprain, it’s not serious but you need to apply ointment everyday and keep the bandages for at least two weeks, while this time passes try not to support your ankle and after the two weeks start slowly. If it gets to swollen before bandaging it use ice, and if you’re in too much pain take a painkiller. Do you have any questions?” “No ma'am” you watch closely how she’s bandaging your ankle so you could do it later, what you didn’t notice was how Taehyung was also very concentrated, so much he even got closer, in Nia’s hands as she was wrapping your ankle so he could do it for you later. Jiwoo’s paying attention to the devoted emotion in Taehyung’s eyes when he’s looking at you and how his tongue sticks out a little bit when paying attention to the doctor, making her think maybe this Connection he’s talking about is no joke, this looks like the real deal. “Thank you so much Doctor Nia, can I take a painkiller…ummm…there was something that made me apply pressure to my ankle” you look sideways at Taehyung thinking he wouldn’t notice but he did, then you hear a little whine that seemed to have come out of a kitty but when you look at the leopard you see his sorrowful face with watery eyes making yours big and surprised; Nia stifling a laugh at the interaction of you two says “Yeah. Sure, there’s no problem but try” looking at Taehyung “to not do it for these days, okay?” You nod at her “Thank you” you smile at the woman “I’ll lead you to the door Nia” says the male hybrid when the bunny finishes packing, and the two hybrids walk through the hall towards the door, once they’re at the door “She seems to be wary of you…as if she doesn’t understand why you’re acting the way you are and I’m asking myself why is her friend here too” she says looking at him with curiosity in her eyes “It’s difficult to explain” he answers taking, unconsciously, his hand to the back of his head with his tail flicking behind him “Okay, take care of both of you, Jace is waiting for me” “Bye Nia, thank you so much” she waves walking towards the elevator.

Taehyung closes the door and immediately walks to kitchen to fill a glass with water, once in the room he passes it to you silently, which you accept it wordlessly, and walks to the bathroom; he opens a cabinet and takes out a box of painkillers and brings it to you “Thank you, Taehyung” you throw him a smile, and swallow the pill, that almost make him smile, but he knew he had to apologize to you for frightened you “Beautiful I’m so sorry for scaring you like that” he kneels in front of you with a watery pout “Sometimes when I’m really tired I transform unknowingly” some tears fall from his eyes “Please don’t be scared of me I’m not going to hurt you…ever. I’m still me even in my animal form so don’t fear me” he grabs one of your hands in both of his giving it tiny kisses. You a little bit flustered because of this type of affection say “Hey, hey Taehyung…you don’t have to be sorry, I mean…you have to understand that where we come from you don’t wake up next to a leopard and leave to tale the tale” you leave your hand in his “So I’m sorry if you were hurt by my actions” he’s still crying so you summon enough courage to scratch behind his ear, thus, to your surprise, he starts purring and melts in your lap like a cat enjoying the affection which brings a bright smile to your face “If we can stay here you have to get used to these kind of reactions because all of this is new to us” you say still scratching his ears. Opening his mouth to answer you, your stomach decides to speak for itself announcing your need for food, you look a Taehyung, who’s rising his face from your lap, with a crimson face after giving a nasty look to your stomach. “A proper dinner is coming ” He says with what looks like a serious face, or at least the attempt of one because you can see the corners of his lips are rising a little bit. “Please, I’m starving” it’s with the mention of food that Jiwoo decides to speak after watching the honey dripping scene.

Taehyung leaves the room to make you three something to eat, but with everything that happened and the painkiller doing its work you fall asleep again. With the hybrid no longer in the room, Jiwoo takes in the spacious room you both are in, she knows this is probably his room but there’s no way she’s gonna let her friend alone with a man who clearly has an interest (or maybe something more) in her: it has a king size bed, a nightstand in each side of the bed, a desk with the chair, and two doors: opening one she finds a giant bathroom with a gigantic shower and bathtub and his supplies, and opening the other one she finds an enormous closet filled with various clothes mainly somewhat formal attires. With the little tour done, Jiwoo decides to take everything out of the backpacks and put it where it should, finishing the task she rests her head on the pillow and without noticing she falls asleep.
