Im having severe bethan brainrot in light of my new fic so here’s my two cents on Them:

First of all, the whole friends to lovers trope is especially adorable for these two. They’ve known each other forever, they’ve definitely seen each others at their highs and lows. 100% Ethan wasted no time sprinting across the yard when he heard bennys granddad passed away and he did everything in his power to keep his friend from crying. 100% Benny sat on Ethan’s bed and listened to him vent about his parents fights and how much stress he’s actually under from them. But, at the same time, Benny showed up to every single one of Ethan’s academic award ceremonies and Ethan was the first one at bennys house whenever the newest video game dropped, despite Ethan not being as into them as Benny is. Their whole relationship is built on a foundation of pure love and respect for one another, platonic or not.

Benny and Ethan always made sure the other was safe even if it meant putting themself in danger- for example, the second part of date to end all dates: Benny is literally frozen in fear, fixated on stern, and Ethan had started to turn and run until he noticed this and wasted no time urging and pulling Benny to move. He literally grabbed him and pushed him to run with his own bare back to stern in order to get Benny moving away. There’s been times Ethan had to carry Benny because he was thrown unconscious and there’s been times Ethan’s had to grow a pair and get violent with things in order to ensure he and Benny stayed safe together. In return, Benny would have no problem using magic to help ethan out- no matter the consequences.

Its so easy to believe that benny has always had a think for Ethan- he fell first but Ethan definitely fell harder sort of thing. Benny ignored his own infatuated feelings in favor of encouraging ethan to pursue sarah, but we all fucking know this boy felt pure joy inside when it was clear they didn’t have a path together. It didn’t take very long afterwards for ethan to have one of his visions smack some sense into him and realize the reason why he felt so uncomfortable w every girl that came his way, was because no one was benny.

They have the same humor, the same hobbies, and have been through the same exact trauma situations. These boys were bounded for life as soon as they became friends because they just work together so easily- like they just knew what the other was thinking/what the other needed without a word needing to be spoken.
