Mike Wheeler is NOT an asshole and his character didn't go downhill starting with season 3 , in fact season 3 did not set everyone's character back it was just the start of a development. Mike's large development as a character was kick-started in season 3 and is continuing to season four, it is overarching! If you paid attention you'd see that throughout the entirety of season 3 he was faking almost entirely everything , trying to be someone who he simply was not!! And even if that repression and conformity made him kind of a jerk, don't forget

I'd argue that he's probably one of the most well written characters instead of the worst. Mainstream media has dumbed the public down so now over-arching character development doesn't click. This doesn't excuse his bad behavior but it does give a reasoning, Mike didn't just grow up and become an asshole he's still an extremely loving and loyal and caring person. He's just going through it right now give him some time

"Why do you watch kid shows rather than stuff for adults?"

Because kids shows have:

Clean humor that won't make me uncomfortable

Jokes that aren't related to sex, drugs, death or politics

Almost no mention of current events and things that I would like to avoid hearing about in my leisure time

Characters that like each other and treat each other kindly

Plots that hold morals, determination, teamwork and love in high regard, rather than being nihilistic about everything

Interesting and emotional plots that aren't slice of life or sitcom-based

Or drama that relies on real emotion and arcs rather than overdone melodrama and 'who's sleeping with who'

And creative settings and concepts that adult shows would be afraid to use for fear of seeming juvenile.

this might sound ridiculous but what if will is the son of vecna/001/henry/peter?

will was born in 1971, joyce sometime in the 40s, and henry in 1947, so mathematically it checks out. it also would make sense given what we know about will and things he’s been through. he was the first to be taken by the upside down, and according to noah there’s a reason for that. when he was taken, hawkins lab covered it up so thoroughly—they even made a fake body which means they had to have known his measurements and features already. they didn’t want anyone to find him (01x07: “and if they find the boy?” “they won’t...”). also, will was able to see, hear, and touch el while she was in the void (01x07), and the other person who was able to do that was billy when he was possessed by the mindflayer. meaning, will must’ve already had some sort of connection to the upside down prior to his own possession. jamie (the actor of 001/peter) also put will in the centre of his character inspiration board. there’s just something different about will, and i have a feeling vecna might be the root of it.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention this but in season 1, Dustin says that Mike’s best friend is Lucas. Right? And Mike says, “you all are my best friends!” in response (which yes I believe and also people are totally capable of having more than one best friend, like I do, it is a thing!)

but listen, listennnnnn, and you know where I’m going with this ;_;, mike “you all are my best friends” wheeler says, “lucas, dustin, max - they’re great, they’re great… but it’s hawkins. it’s not the same without you.”

and like, I feel like, we can all somewhat agree that what mike meant, because why would he have to INCLUDE Lucas, Dustin, Max, if he wasn’t indicating this: is that they are GREAT, but they are not WILL.

Like. I’m actually crying. And like. Literally. Literally. His friendship with Will has always, always been different, and I feel like, I honestly feel like, Mike is just realizing that. Like that it is different than his other friendships, and I feel like he still doesn’t fully understand why, maybe, and/or won’t accept why, or just has repressed it so so so much, that it just is some foreign concept in the back of his head, which involves projecting onto will: “not my fault you don’t like girls,” “we’re friends. we’re friends.” because listen here kiddies, I’ve done exactly this with my friends/“unknown crushes”, when I was repressing my queerness; i literally would sit there and be like “so and so likes me, I think, and that’s why our friendship is different” rhenwunfuen like I feel like this concept is so impossible to explain to straight people, and I feel like, with mike, the reason that we see it, is because a lot of us have been in mike’s shoes, we have behaved that way, we have had that special friend that we didn’t understand why the friendship felt different for. it’s different with will. the way mike acts with will is nothing like how he acts with dustin and lucas? and lucas and dustin act the same with mike, each other, will, everyone like!! that does not happen with mike, yet he says they are all his best friends!! ugh it’s just so painfully accurate to me that like, and the fact that a lot of mainstream doesn’t see it, makes it that much more accurate because yes, they don’t see it because he is repressing and hiding!! and doing a damn good job!! because that’s what queer kids feel like they have to do. <3 anyways, mike wheeler is queer.
