long time no see ^^
So, after that interview question about the different uses of the Japanese word nioi (におい), with 臭い (odor) being for enemies and 匂い (scent) being for allies (and for the girl characters to represent cute and cleanliness), I decided to check out the Kagura scene:
He uses 臭い (odor) instead of 匂い (scent) when talking about following Naraku’s shouki (the infamous miasma, lol), but that is because he is talking about Naraku, his enemy. He then tells Kagura that he knew it was her.
After the information about how Sesshomaru and Inuyasha differentiate their scents among enemies and allies, it adds another layer to this scene. Not only was Sesshomaru able to tell it was her scent and therefore come specifically because he knew it was her, but it also implies that he viewed her as an ally. Since he likely knew it was her because he was sensing her 匂い (scent) mixed in with the 臭い (odor) of Naraku.
This is already a very strong moment/scene, and I don’t think there is too much else to write about it. But I just wanted to take a look at it in Japanese after that recent bit of information in the interview. It just makes me understand this moment a bit more clearly and with an extra layer added on to it as well.

First Ever Kagura Week!!
Hey all! We're happy to announce that we're going to be hosting the first ever Kagura Week (2020) to show our favorite crimson-eyed murderess some much deserved love.
The week starts Sunday, October 25th and ends on Saturday, October 31st!

Day 7 (10/31) - Wrath: "i will murder you and play with your corpse"
