Hannibal’s mom, Vivian: eloped-because-baby situation, only put up with each other for a year before Vivian dipped and moved back in with her parents. Hannibal and Murdoc visit Hannibal’s grandparents for holidays, and while they’re not the warmest people, they’re probably the nicest family they have. Hannibal doesn’t have a good relationship with Vivian— she’s just as critical and emotionally unavailable as their dad. As for Murdoc, she pretty much just ignored him since he wasn’t her kid, so they don’t have any sort of relationship. Vivians parents, at the very least, would treat Murdoc just as they’d treat Hannibal.

Murdoc’s mom, Maria: shy, sweet, naïve, but deeply unstable. She probably would’ve kept Murdoc, but she was deemed unfit to care for him. Murdoc’s never met her and knows very little about her.

Murdoc and Hannibal also have their paternal grandmother, Gretchen: a German Iron Maiden of a woman and the only person Sebastian is afraid of. She’s a widow, and the circumstances of her husband’s death have always been suspect. Despite her cold demeanor and tendency for cruelty, Murdoc would describe her as “kind of a girlboss”
