You can hear me sobbing in the corner btw

oh Charles...
Ohh I never thought of it that way. I love this pov, op <3
After having only been in fandoms centered around shows and movies my whole life, watching F1 has actually been pretty good for my self-esteem. I had grown too accustomed to the faces on screen always having perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect teeth, perfect makeup, plus the benefit of post-production editing. Sure, the F1 drivers are a very good looking bunch, but the race broadcasts still show them in their natural, human state. We see the helmet hair, the dark circles under their eyes, the crooked teeth, the chapped lips, the acne, and the wrinkles - all things that wouldn’t make the final cut for scripted TV or film. And more importantly, these traits, even when plainly visible, don’t make the drivers any less successful or beloved. Max Verstappen has acne sometimes? Yeah, and he’s a three-time world champion with millions of fans. Fernando Alonso has the wrinkles that come with 43 years of age? Of course, and he too has multiple championships and a cult following. Charles Leclerc has dark circles under his eyes? Yes, and he has multiple race wins and is widely considered to be one of the most attractive on the grid. All this to say, I’m grateful that F1 has reminded me that all real humans have traits that might be written off as imperfections. And even with these imperfections, you can be successful and loved.
