'...I have seen you give him looks and smiles this very night, such as you never give to--me.' 'Do you want me then,' said Estella, turning suddenly... 'to deceive and entrap you?' 'Do you deceive and entrap him, Estella?' 'Yes, and many others--all of them but you.'
Great Expectations, Charles Dickens
Nothing can exceed [the soldiers'] good humor. It was but the day before my arrival that one of them had been most grossly insulted...The bar-maid had positively refused to draw him any more liquor; in return for which he had (merely in playfulness) drawn his bayonet, and wounded the girl in the shoulder. And yet this fine fellow was the first to go down next morning, and express his readiness to overlook the matter.
The Pickwick Papers, Charles Dickens
Happy birthday, Emily!! Since it's Charles Dickens Week on my Tumblr, I went to see what he had to say about being born on December 15 in the Charles Dickens Birthday Book:
There is no better man living.
Full of grateful tenderness.
There is nothing, no, nothing innocent or good, that dies, and is forgotten. Let us hold to that faith, or none. There is not an angel added to the host of heaven but does its blessed work on earth in those that loved it here. Forgotten! oh, if the good deeds of human creatures could be traced to their source, how beautiful would even death appear; for how much charity, mercy, and purified affection would be seen to have their growth in dusty graves!
Holy crap, that has nothing to do with birthdays. Why is he talking about dusty graves in a birthday book? At least he said "there is no better man living," which I'm interpreting to mean "there is no better [person] living [than you, Emily]."
Anyway, sorry Charles Dickens was such a creep on your birthday. Here's a picture of Kurt Cobain smiling to make up for it:
I'm finally sixteen!!! :D

Like Charles Dickens even cares about your bullshit, seriously.
