Rewrite: 1.28.2023 Comic Preview

It’s 1.28! 13 years ago (in the manga canon) was the day that Kira’s true identity was revealed.

Because of this, I’m releasing a few comic pages for the occasion! These are from my upcoming doujinshi titled Rewrite.

Also, today is the day I officially announce the release date of my doujinshi!

Regretfully, I’ve had to push Rewrite’s deadline further into the future. I greatly underestimated the time required to complete the series. With some restructuring, I’ve planned out a realistic schedule, and I’m certain I can complete this series on time. This will give both me and the artists I work with the proper amount of time to create high-quality content!

I want to take a moment to thank the artists, writers, friends, acquaintances, fans and especially my SO’s for their continued help on this project. I couldn’t have come this far on my own; so, from the bottom of my heart: thank you! I appreciate each and every one of you!

Death Note: Rewrite, a free, digital Death Note Fanbook/Doujinshi. This five-arc series features comics, fanfiction and fanart!

Rewrite’s Summary: Matt is tasked with repairing the bonds of his found family, at a time when grief and resentment rule both Mello’s and Near’s hearts. The trio of successors battle more than Kira as they struggle to find their footing on life’s path. In order to mend the wounds of the past, each must learn to forgive, and extend patience so they can renew their commitments to one another.

The story is a dramedy (drama and comedy) and will be rated M for mature themes.

Death Note: Rewrite will be posted to Archive of Our Own, Tumblr and Twitter on May 16th, 2025.

what kind of songs Matt's band plays in your fic Hey Pretty Baby? have you imagined a concept or maybe had inspiration from an irl band?

Anon...you have no idea the can of worms you just opened

So, the fic itself is based on and titled after Dead Inside by Younger Hunger. I'd been toying around with the idea of bassist Matt in my head for a while and the song just fit, and became a sort of brain worm that turned into a whole thing. I have a whole animation in my head of BB singing with Matt doing the lower vocals that I wish I was skilled enough to make.

In the very first chapter (which was originally only intended to be a oneshot), the scene opens with the band in the middle of a song, and I always imagine it to be Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. It's a great song with a great bass part (yes, I know it's actually a tuned-down guitar but let me dream) and the vocals are pretty close to how I imagine BB would sound singing the song, as well as the main vocals in Dead Inside. He's got this sort of reedy, high-ish pitched voice that can get pretty crazy at times, and I think it's a good fit for him.

Matt doesn't sing often, but it's mentioned in the fic that he occasionally does backup vocals (and maybe does a song or two himself 👀) and like BB, the Dead Inside vocals fit my image (sound?) for him. But I also think him singing solo would sound something like Lincoln in the song Banks (or any Lincoln song, but Banks is such a mellodramattic song), he's got a sort of drone to his voice, a bit nasally/monotone but in a good way.

I have a playlist of songs for the fic- either songs i can see the band covering or ones that fit the themes and plot for one reason or another. If you'd like, you can find the whole playlist HERE!
