Do you guys remember how kidnap fantasies were popular on wattpad because young girls and queer teens were both made to feel shame at the thought of their own sexualities, so the fantasy of being kidnapped totally against their will was a way for them to engage with a romantic or sexual fantasy without feeling morally in the wrong for doing so? Added bonus that the fantasy involved being whisked away from repressive environments like home or school, right?
Finding out that Bram Stoker was in a sexless marriage and that scholars believe that he very likely was closeted gay puts the entire book into perspective as to WHY it reads EXACTLY like a self insert wattpad Dracula kidnap fic:
“I TOTALLY love my wife and would never do anything that an upstanding Good Straight Working Man wouldn’t do but oh nooo, big strong man with broad back and strong enough arms to carry me back to bed like a princess trapped me and claimed me as his, completely against my will 👉👈 But he protects me against the bad evil sexual women (who I assure you, I am TOTALLY sexually attracted to, as any straight man with a choice would be) but trust me, I do NOT want ANY of this. What’s that? The Count is not capable of feeling love? Would be a shame if I had the special ability to change tha-”
Does anybody else get legitimately worried when a fanfic author who was updating regularly just suddenly disappears with no warning? Like, is it a serious case of writers block or are they in a coma? Did they just up and quit? Was it me? Were my reviews not good enough?! Did they die 😳?! Were they kidnapped? Do I need to file a missing persons report? Excuse me officer, there’s been 13 weekly updates and now nothing for months! Find them! What’s their name?! Name!? I don’t know their name but they write 3k+ chapters and I need them safe and back in my life!
Okay, I reeeeally hope this works properly...

"why do we even have that lever" is made funnier by the fact there are only 2 levers to begin with (disguised as a pair of tusks on a statue)
i find the implications hilarious:
kronk only had to remember the location of one lever, and couldn't even manage that
but on the other hand, it's easy to get two identical unlabelled levers confused, this one's on yzma tbh
yzma only needed to make one lever to begin with, but she actively chose to turn the second tusk into a functioning trapdoor. she could have just...just not connected the second tusk to anything. it didn't need to have a function
upon reflection, this also answers the question itself: "why do we even HAVE that lever?" it's because yzma herself specifically designed it as a booby trap. "why do we have that lever?" because yzma had it built to keep people out of her secret lair! yzma made the very purposeful choice to put that lever there! and then both she and her inept henchman immediately forgot about her own booby trap! yzma that is YOUR LEVER!!!!!
I feel like 2k3 really missed an opportunity with hurt!Raph. Like, there are hurt!Leo arcs and hurt!Donnie arcs, and Mikey never gets a big hurt! arc of his own but he does get knocked around a fair bit.
But. Raph. Nothing really serious ever happens to Raph. Even when he gets kidnapped by Hun, he just sort of... strolls out of there. Even in Season 6 when the other three brothers all get messed up at the same time, Raph doesn't. Even when Karai's forces lay siege to their lair and Splinter, Donnie, and Mikey are all injured... Raph isn't. He gets psychological arcs, and yeah, gets temporarily injured in a few eps, but there are no episodes or arcs where he's seriously injured or captured in a way he can't get out of. He is seriously injured alongside all the others at the start of Season 4, but it's played more comedically than anything else.
The problem is, Raph is about as strong as Leo, but because he isn't the leader, he doesn't get targeted the way Leo does. And it's too bad. Because if it did happen, it would put him and his family through the wringer.
Imagine how freaked out everyone would be. Raph is invincible. Nothing takes Raph down. He's their big strong badass of a brother. He's their shield. Leo relies on him a great deal, to protect their family and also emotionally. If something takes Raph out, Leo is going to be in hypervigilant overdrive worrying about the rest of them. Donnie and Mikey would both be rattled, because in their minds, Raph is just so much stronger than them. And Splinter would be his usual heart-wrenching self when one of his kids is hurt.
Raph himself, either during or after, would also be flipping out. Even he thinks of himself as "the tough guy." He's supposed to be able to take on anything. His family is vulnerable without him. That one time in Season 4 when he actually was too hurt to fight, he was angry and upset about it - and that was just one fight!
Imagine something like Tales of Leo, only it's Raph, and everyone is reflecting on their relationships with him and what he gives to the family. Better yet, imagine Good Genes, but with Raph. Even with Donnie there able to work on a cure, he'd still need to make the cure. Think of how pernicious and frightening a Monster!Raph would be. Think about the parallels with his anger issues and "losing control" and hurting people he loves. Think about the other three brothers quietly agreeing to do "whatever it takes" to save him.
Missed opportunity, I tell ya.

Did I just employ the "Treat Them Like You are A Kindergarten Teacher Again" method with my insurance company today? I surely did. Did it work? Probably better than intended because I made an actual doctor feel contrite.
So, my insurance has been trying to not cover my SNRI because it is new on the market and no generic available yet, so pricey.
I apply for a refill and the request gets locked for review. Again. For the 3rd time.
This time I call and immediately ask to speak to the actual doctor making these clinical decisions. Very politely. Must be a slow day because they allow it.
ME: [Teacher voice] I'm calling in regards to the SNRI you have placed a lock on. Why was this decision made?
DOC: Well, there are dozens of other medications on the market in that tier, and far cheaper for you and [insurer]. We have sent a request to your doctor to consider alternatives.
ME: I am aware of that. So, can you do me a HUGE favor and look up my prescription history really quickly and tell me how many SSRIs and SNRIs were only filled once in 2022 for me, showing they were poorly tolerated?
DOC: It looks like eight.
ME: Great job! Now, can you please look at my genetic test for psychiatric drug tolerance and tell me how many medications are listed in the safe category?
DOC: Two.
ME: Awesome! Now, can you tell me what type that other drug is that I'm not taking?
DOC: Yeah, totally, it's an MAOI.
ME: That's correct, you're really knowledgeable! Should I be taking something as dangerous as an MAOI with my other medications, or even just in general?
DOC: It's contraindicated for sure.
ME: It is! So true! So, last question since you've been incredibly smart and helpful. Is it less expensive for [insurer] to pay out for the medication knowing they already get a huge manufacturer discount anyway, or is it more expensive for them to pay for me to need potentially long-term inpatient psychiatric care?
DOC: I'll clear the code, ma'am and flag it as medically necessary. I'm sorry about this.
ME: I appreciate you SO MUCH. You have a great day now.

I think the most unintentionally pretentious part of me is I genuinely forget that most people do not have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of mythology and folklore. I literally just assume most people know at least the name of every Greek god. My mom and I were watching the Banshees of Inisherin and at the start, she asked "Do you know what a banshee is?" and I was so stunned because it would never occur to me to ask that question because I would never assume the average person doesn't know what a banshee is. The average person knows what a banshee is right. You know what a banshee is right. You know the names of the greek gods right. You know that norse myth where loki fucked the horse right. Right. RIGHT

I think the best part of 2022 for me after getting ADHD diagnosis is probably discovering home optimisation tricks aka how to have adhd-friendly house.
here’s some of the list I could think on top of my head now :
1. The concept of open wardrobe, cabinet, and closet to help object impermanence.
2. Sticker label at every corner of your house as reminder (turning off the switch, close the door, etc).
3. Hang dangling keychain at cabinet on top of your head so after you open it, as you see something dangling, it will catch your attention to close the cabinet door.
4. Hang every washed clean clothes after laundry using hanger instead of folding it.
5. Have a basket system for dirty laundry and clean laundry.
6. Changing tatami bed style (the one where the bed is on the floor) to loft bed, because being on the floor can be bad for ADHD productivity AND having higher bed introduces some challenges to make rest better.
7. The 5 minutes rule : if you can get it done in 5 minutes, then you have to do it immediately. Example, hanging your outside clothes after coming back home only take less than 5 minutes, so you do it immediately so that you don’t just pile them on the floor or on the sofa.

I might update this post whenever I found new cool ways of optimizing my home.
I got to thinking about @ashwii Celestial AU and I couldn't help but notice some similarities to how the RotTMNT Movie begins.
In their AU, Raph represents our solar system's sun, Donnie represents the moons in the universe, Leo represents the stars, and Mikey represents the comets.
In the movie, Raph dies first and it is headcannoned that Leo also loses his arm in that battle. Donnie helps Leo with a new arm. Next, Donnie dies in battle. Leo and Mikey are all alone. The movie then plays out with Mikey getting Thanosed by himself and Leo get offed by the Kraang. I think that this is going to tie into the AU
Our Sun, Raph, is going to be the first one to die. He is only our sun. He isn't attached to anything else. And for the Celestial Turtles, his death is coming soon. Time is irrelevant to them because humans made it up. To us, the planet may not even exist anymore when Raph explodes.
Since Leo is the stars and the Sun is a star, I think that's how he loses a part of himself. He can feel when the stars die and this just hurts a lot more than the others. I think Donnie, who now knows the pain because of his moons that were destroyed in the blast, helps piece Leo back together.
But there aren't as many moons in the universe as there are comets or stars. Donnie is the next one to go as the Universe begins to collapse in on itself.
Millennia go by and it's still just Leo and Mikey, but Mikey isn't doing too good. His comets are melting and crashing due to the numerous black holes. He's slowly being chipped away until there is nothing left.
And for a brief amount of time, there is Leo. All alone, floating in the vast universe. His stars are continuously dying or being sucked into black holes. He feels numb to it all. Until he is pulled into a black hole himself. And the universe we know is gone.
But Leo isn't dead. Just trapped in a place light cannot escape. Who's to say he can't make a new universe? A black hole is just a collapsed star. What if he were to cause another Big Bang?
He does. Donnie, Mikey, and Raph are reborn with no memory of what happened. Leo doesn't tell them. He can't let them know. If they did, how would they react? Would they hate him for destroying what little universe was left? Would they think he was being selfish? Possibly but that's okay. He wil do anything to make sure his brothers are safe.
