Dark Blood And Light (Pt.1)

(SNEAK PEAK) (Aleksander Morozova/ The Darkling x OC)

Summary: Looking back at the time before the era ‚Sun Summoner‘, to a childhood in an orphanage in Kermazin.

Tags: hurt, childhood, mean adults, food, abuse, fear, nostalgia

W/c: 6.7K

A/n: The first chapter is partly (mostly) written from a narrators point of view. In the following chapters there will probably be paragraphs that are partly written from that point of view as well, but the majority will be from my protagonists kind of views.

~–~

Part One: Before the Beginning

During the short warming summertime, you'd most likely find all three of them huddled together under the hot sun, letting the warm summer breeze sway through their hair as they laid, hidden from unwanted guests, in their meadow. Sometimes after they completed the many chores they`d go into the forest hunting or swam in the refreshing cold water of the rivers. However most of their time was spend near the orphanage they grew up in.

The orphanage, as it was known to the children, had been the mansion of Duke Kermazov, an older man who found his passion in providing homeless children with a second chance for a better life.

It would have been unusual to see the tired looking Duke in his old house, considering he'd rather stay in his house in Os Alta. He'd never say much against the children playing behind his old mansion that was now considered an orphanage, thus stopping the housekeeper Ana Kuya from lecturing the three for straying too far away from their home during the summer.

It also happened to be a reason why Alina liked that time of year the most, aside from her favorite flowers being in bloom. She loved that with his arrival, there was no stopping her and her friends to experience a new adventure, that waited them around every corner. Now that Alina was older, she enjoyed looking back onto those precious memories, a time when everything had been far easier for her than it is now.

Coming Sunday, October 17th @ 9pm CEST

Playlist

Dark Blood and Light Masterlist

Throughout this story I am going to add a few new songs, so do not be surprised if the Spotify playlist will gain a few more. As a fun fact, I actually listened to these songs while reading the actual books (not in the same order, but still every time I listend to them I can’t help but associate them with the shadow and bone books). I hope you enjoy them as well, maybe you’ll listen to them as well while reading the other books.

One song that I couldn’t find on Spotify is „Paint it Black“ a cover by Ciara, but I highly recommend listening to it while reading shadow and bone (especially in the first book)

If you want me to write down all the songs, because you do not have Spotify, you can write me and I will do it as fast as possible.

Grisha would have never come this far if it wasn't for the darkling. They would have been hunted down, killed and so much more (like in Shu Han and Fjerda).

Imagine, Zoya, who would have never learned to properly use her powers. She would have never been this powerful without the training at the little palace. And let's all remember, that Zoya had been one of the most devoted to the darkling before and saw what good he had done for Ravka.

All they do is complain through out the whole book, when in reality they would never be able to keep constant "peace" between Ravka and other countries. In Rule of Wolves they had luck, that the prince of Fjerda died and Hanne took his place. Without that they would have never been able to keep Fjierda in place.

And let's be honest, compared to the darkling Zoya and Nikolai are far from running a country "smoothly" .

The Darkling lifted one shoulder. “An eternity of suffering as penance for my crimes. I ask but one thing.”

“Here it comes.”

“Build me an altar, so that I may be remembered.”

Zoya scowled. “As a tyrant? A killer?”

“As the Starless One. Give me a place in your books. When night comes, let there be one more candle lit for one more Saint. Can you agree to that, merciful queen?” he drawled.

The Darkling seemed almost disinterested, but the demon in Nikolai sensed it was a pose.

“He means it,” Nikolai said in disbelief. “He’s willing to die.”

“It is not death,” said the monk. “Death would be a kindness.”

Genya tilted her head to the side. She was watching the Darkling closely.

“But it’s not death you fear, is it? He’s afraid he’ll disappear.”

Nikolai remembered what Genya had said. All the Darkling ever wanted was to be loved by this country. He knew that feeling well. He’d had to face it when he’d stared down his demon. There were few men Ravka loved. Saints were another matter.

This man sacrificed hundreds of years for Ravka already, and he’s willing to suffer for eternity, but still it’s not enough for our dear protagonists. He already paid for his crimes. He lost everything, he was killed. There are already people who follow the Starless Saint, and Grisha who remember their General who saved them and protected them. To erase him from history would be not only cruel, but also stupid. ‘Those who do not know the history are doomed to repeat it,’ or however that quote went.

“Do we let him play the hero?” Zoya asked.

Genya nodded once. “Let him do it. Let our suffering have meant something.”

Zoya stood framed by red blossoms and thorns, a queen who needed no crown. “It will be done.”

I swear to– Is Genya’s only personality trait being the king’s victim? not even a survivor, just a victim. no agency of her own.

also, ‘let him play hero’ Zoya you are FUCKED if he doesn’t help you, Ravka is fucked, the continent is fucked, the world is fucked. he’s the only hope here, he’s willing to pay the price and he is the only one who can fix this. It’s not the first time he’s the saviour either. Without him Ravka would collapse 400 years ago, even before the Fold.

… so, let’s get this started. i am going to make this clear from the beginning: i don’t write smut/lemon! (mainly because I don’t know how). if you don’t like dark content (angst, pain …) in mangas, novels and other literature, don’t follow.

do not repost my work on any website and with that i mean ANY WEBSITE may it be wattpad, tumblr, twitter etc., without my consent!. if you want to write a translation or something inspired by my work, do me the favor and PLEASE write me. you can reach out to me by inbox or answers. and once you reach out to me please inform me where you are going to publish and what exactly you are using from my work.

i love writing dark content or a little more twisted things, so if you are sensitive considering such topics, please read the warnings before every story. i try my best to write warnings infront of every chapter, one shot etc. that i make, so please read those beforehand and take them serious.

i do not tolerate hate on my or other writers work, however criticism is always welcomed as long as it is written friendy and polite. of course praise is also appreciated. i also like it when people tell me their opinion on their requested writes (one shots etc.) that i finished. so do not be afraid to write me or post replies, write comments etc.! :)

you should all know by now that english is not my native language, so please excuse any grammer mistakes or write me in a friendly way so i can correct them. i only speak english, german and a little bit spanish, so please inform me of any mistakes that i have made while using another language that i don’t know and simply translated through a programm (for example, a phrase actually being really insulting).

as i have said before, if you are sensitive please do not follow me, since i write about dark content based on trauma etc. so i advice you to read the warnings on each piece of my work before actually reading it, because i also write different stuff as well.

... well i think that was everything, have fun reading! you have been warned!

“Are you thinking of killing me, Zoya?”

“Yes.”

“Your king wouldn’t be pleased.”

“I’m not going to do it,” she lied. “I just enjoy thinking about it. It’s soothing, like humming myself a little melody. Besides, death is too good for you.”

“Is it?” He sounded almost curious. “What would make my atonement complete? An eternity of torture?”

“It would be a start. Though letting you live a long life without your power isn’t a bad beginning either.”

How is it that the protagonists are allowed to be cruel, vengeful, vicious, violent and aggressive, even without provocation, but when Aleksander does it he’s the great evil? It’s not like he’s the only one within the group to kill an innocent, to hurt someone in the group (Zoya earlier reminds herself she was the worst to Genya when Safin needed comfort and help) and his motivations in the actions he took were hardly selfish ones (unlike those of many protagonists we have). If Zoya can say all this (the quote) why was it wrong of Sasha to hurt Genya for her betrayal? It’s a double-edged sword.
