“i fucked up.”

“what do you mean?’ you and jungkook proceeded to sit down on the couch on your shared apartment near gangnam, south korea. you both had lived there for almost a year now, being together for about three years. your heart was pounding really hard, you feel like you can’t even breathe. the way he sounded as he talked, made you feel anxious. there was nothing wrong between you two. no struggling, only a few fights, one happened recently, nothing. but the thing about what’s happening recently is that you both weren’t as affectionate as you were before. you have been working a whole lot lately, and it really wasn’t your fault that you’re a nurse working in the night shift, you have been covering for someone for a while before you can continue working in the mornings and come back home in the afternoons.

you have thought the worst possible situations that could come out of his mouth. he fucked up during the job, he cheated on you, those were the thoughts that were roaming in your mind. you weren’t prepared for this, and you wish you had. something like this scares you, and he knows that. but he wanted to come out clean before he lets anyone else tell you what he has been doing.

“y/n. please listen to me. and i’m scared to tell you this. i made a mistake.” the more he talked, the more of this shaky feeling. your palms were sweating and shaking, you can feel your heart in this silent living room. the only thing you could hear was the heavy rain pouring outside and the air conditioner running throughout the apartment. you feel like crying at this point, regardless of what the news was going to be. you knew it was going to be bad news. jungkook’s not looking at you straight in the eye, and as he finally told you, you lost it.

you lost it completely.

You cupped your hands over your face, your index fingers rubbing back and forth along the bridge of your nose. Your eyes stung from staring at the white light of your laptop screen and your skull was throbbing with how much thought you were putting into your essay. A quick glance to the clock at the bottom right of the screen had a grown falling from your lips; 4;27 a.m., in two hours, you’d have to be getting ready for class. Dropping your hands to the desk with a thud, you glared at the still mostly blank word document, the cursor blinking at you as if taunting you that you hadn’t made it move in the last hour and a half or so.

Jeongguk squats on your windowsill, one hand holding the glass exterior of your apartment building, the other resting on the bottom of the sill, eyes looking straight ahead into yours. He can hear the sirens behind him, and you can see their lights dance across his face; red and blue like his second skin. 

He should follow them, go to help, but he stays frozen. He knows you’ll be fine here, safe from whatever harm has come back to the city, but that’s not why he isn’t moving. 

Maybe he shouldn’t have taken off his mask in front of you a week ago, maybe he shouldn’t have told you his biggest secret. It would have made moments like these easier, for the both of you, but he always hated lying to you. Besides, Jeongguk knows you would have figured it out sooner or later. You’re smart like that. 

“You—you should go, they’re gonna need you, Guk,” you choke out, and Jeongguk’s eyes grow three times in size because that is not the sentence he was expecting to come out of your mouth.
