The truth in all of this is real! I busted my ass on the calçada right in front of Pastéis de Belem... yes freaking tourist central Lisbon. I was so embarrassed especially cause I’m Portuguese and should know better.

the real reason why the calçada portuguesa is still around is to keep us humble. there’s nothing like a quick slip and watching your life flash before your eyes to remind you of that - you’re above no one, no one is above you, and everything can end in a moment. no matter how much money you have, no matter how strong or educated you are, no matter what you look like, you too can fall. the calçada keeps you humble.
