I'm an aspiring artist, and have recently started trying to open my own commission page. Is there anything I should know beforehand? Restrictions I should put? Good payment methods? How much documentation I should have?

What I would advise is to just get to it calmly! Don’t he so strict about all of this, let people know you’re doing this for fun!:)

Establish the payment! The most advised is PayPal. Also choose one currency and make sure it’s visible and clear!

Make sure to put together clear price list, that will be easy to look at and to read - if marketing lectures taught me anything, it’s the fact that clients don’t want to read. They prefer to see a clear, quick message!

So you should let them see, how your artwork looks like in price list and what costs what. For example, sketch is 5$, lineart alone is 10$, coloured lineart is 15$ and full drawing with shading is 20$. You can also add some custom options, depending on your skills. If you’re more confident with art, get some options of full landscape or a portrait, higher priced obviously.

Dunno about the documentation, but make sure to set clear boundaries of what commissions you will do, and which you absolutely won’t. Like, you won’t draw, for example, furries, nsfw and gore. No need for reasoning, you just set it up, it’s your choice.
