You weren’t entertaining enough - A Character Essay

To conclude this trio of essays, I’d like to direct my attention to the last of the main three from Boyfriend To Death, Lucien Rire. This will probably be my longest of the essays, so please be patient with me, I simply have a lot to say about him.

(Also, spoilers for Boyfriend To Death 2, mainly relating to Strade. I figure most people know by now, but it’s still good to point it out)

Something I’ve noticed over the years, not to the fault of the audience, is that Rire seems to fall more towards the background in the sphere of Boyfriend To Death. Both because of his smaller roles as it progressed (from a single route to only appearing in the end extras you’d unlock if you completed EVERY single route and CG in BTD 2) and also because from a surface level, he’s easy to simplify to a couple of core traits.
