I know this is late and stuff, but I always thought of Sampo’s hair as like a dark denim? Like one that’s slightly purple to deepen it but mostly blue overall.

Last series: The Bear, which I am absolutely about to turn around and re-watch because holy ensemble work, batman.
Last movie: Run, Rabbit, Run, which is a horror movie starring my wife, Sarah Snook, and if they thought they were going to put me off her with that character they thought wrong. Unfortunately, the writing is pretty meh, so I can only recommend it if you're as thirsty as I am.
Currently working on: A serialized romance for Kindle Vella and Radish, a Magnus Archives WIP, and a relatively short Dreamling fic I hope to start posting soon.

The reason I am running this poll is that many TMA fans have a hard time telling when Jonny is saying Gerard vs Jared in the podcast. The oft-cited reason for this is that he does not pronounce the second "R" in "Gerard," thus making it hard to distinguish the two names.
This confused me for a long time, as I can tell them apart regardless of the "R," based on the "E" vs "A" sounds. But it occurred to me that the E/A distinction is the same one as exists in the words "merry" and "marry" - two words that many people cannot tell apart. Those particular phonemes get lost in many American accents, meaning that the words are spoken and heard as homonyms despite technically having different pronunciations.
My predictions are that the results of this poll will show that people who hear "Gerard" and "Jared" as the same will also hear "merry" and "marry" as the same, and that this will be the largest group. People who hear one word pair as different, will also hear the difference in the other one, and this will be the second largest group. There will be a small number of people who can hear the difference between one word pair but not the other. I do not know how fandom association will change these results (but I expect most interaction will be from TMA fans anyway).
...All that aside, I'm very curious to see if I'll be proven wrong!
Exactly! People see contradictions as flaws to the plot instead of like, characters lying, misremembering or being wrong. It's in a audio medium, most of what we have to go off of is dialogue, this makes it a lot more difficult to figure out characters' thought processes. Hopefully you wouldn't believe the Distortion at face value, why would you believe literally all of these guys' biased opinions? I've been planning on taking the time to list every fact about the story, like "x says this when referring to y," or "x shows interest in learning about y", but that will take absolutely forever, and I am lazy.
A frustration of mine in TMA discourse is that everyone takes characters' verbal assessments of other characters and situations as law. It's like they took the idea of an unreliable narrator and only applied it to Jon. Most of the characters actually say things that don't match the situational evidence at all. Martin has absolutely no idea what Jon's motivations are or what he would do, but he's incredibly confident in how he states his guesses. People think Sasha is like Gertrude because Gertrude thought she'd be a good successor from what we knew of her. The actual situational evidence we have is that Sasha would meet knife hands guy for coffee and follow him to a secondary location without a single thought about if the situation went south. There is no way that Sasha wouldn't shake Jude Perry's hand without a second thought is all I'm saying. All of these characters don't know shit about each other and make wild conjectures and we're all just believing them. Why?
