hi! how do you determine where to put thick and where to put thin lines in your drawings? id really like to know :3

here's some pointers I made hope this helps!
HOW I DESIGN CHARACTERS

I have been redesigning a character of mine and i wanted to show my dumb process for making characters so here it is in no particular order of importance (warning i say recognizable, character, and design a lot also grammar isn’t my strong suit)

1. Finding references and images you want your character to invoke is important as it can help tell you who they are and it helps with inspiration when designing them but it really depends on what your character is and their purpose

2. Having a recognizable silhouette is very IMPORTANT I’m serious this one is very important don’t forget it

3. Not as important but it helps having a unique body type to your character so when they are in or out of costume they are still recognizable

4. I’m not good at explaining this but having a color palette that reflects your characters personality is helpful in this one she is constantly angry and frustrated so i gave her a red and orange color scheme (also its the colors of a typical firecracker)

5. Value is also important as it breaks up your characters features so when designing your character’s color scheme put them in gray scale and see if they are still recognizable or do they turn into a grey mess

6. Its shapes! shapes can help tell a characters personality i would go more into this but for simplicity’s sake Circle’s are friendly and harmless, Squares are dependable and stubborn, and Triangles are active and EVIL so make sure you incorporate shape into your design

Hope this helps even if i just rehashed every thing you already knew and i know i have my own biases when creating characters so take what i say with a grain of salt. also having a characters personality and story should be the first thing you do as it decides every other choice you make when Designing them so keep that in mind!!!
