I personally say this theory markers a lot of sense and is REALLY damn interesting!

SPEC OPS SPOILERS FOLLOW

Actually one of the more interesting theories i’ve heard about Spec Ops The Line is just that cause y’know there’s the really popular like Jacob’s Ladder purgatory theory like he died in the helicopter crash and he has to constantly relive this but what i really like is another theory that says okay so even before the White Phosphorus incident, Walker is clearly traumatized by SOMETHING that happened in Kabul that he apparently refuses to talk about, but ended with Konrad dragging him half-dead to an evac chopper so he has this hero worship thing going on. So most people just chalk his weird hallucinations like the tree that seems to be alive but when you turn back it’s dead (which is foreshadowing to Konrad’s fate, on a related note his penthouse seems to be full of lush greenery and aquarium shit but if you kill yourself it’s seen in its “real state” to be in a decrepit state of disrepair) and that one like Cirque Du Soleil style giant banner that the first time you see it it looks like a gigantic picture of Konrad’s face most people chalk that up to PTSD

BUT all of Dubai seems weird and dream-like, there are a bunch of dolly zooms when you’re looking out over vistas, and no matter how far down you go, you always somehow end up suddenly back at the top of the city, still going down. Most of the time people just chalk this up to the rule of symbolism but what iiiff and i know how cheap this sounds i know everyone hates the IT WAS AAALL JUST A DREEAAAMMM thing but in this context it makes sense that it’s some recurring PTSD nightmare like he keeps having this macho fantasy of going in guns blazing and saving John Konrad like he saved him and being the hero but it all starts unraveling under the horror and guilt of what war is really like and the continuity and level design in the game is kinda disjointed and weird and Walker survives shit nobody should be able to survive like at least twice i can think of off the top of my head dude falls out of a god damned skyscraper ffs and there’s just boxes of explodium lying around everywhere the whole thing has a surreal, dream-like quality

Sooooo what if this whole thing is a character study and look into Walker’s psyche and it’s like Walker’s recurring hero fantasy we’re playing that over the course of the dream disintegrates and unravels into a horrific nightmare shit like that happens with PTSD i should know and the loading screens are his own internal thoughts plus “Wait….this isn’t right….no I mean we’ve done this before” that could indicate one of those moments of lucidity you get sometimes like he realizes this is a dream he’s had before oh yeah also there’s Lugo and the locals speaking in Farsi, which isn’t really spoken in Dubai, and is much more common innnnnn badadada da daaaa you GUESSED IT Afghanistan and the architecture i mean even by Dubai standards seems surreal and the sheer strength of the sandstorm to bury an entire city like that and no matter how far down you get you just keep going down and down and down idk

I mean also if you load up the Epilogue, the loading screen one of the messages and it only plays during the Epilogue no other levels is just “It’s time for you to wake up.” Which is idk pretty blatant Anyway this isn’t to say i dislike the other theories i like the this is all really happening Walker’s just losing his mind and the “We’ve done this before!” is just a cheeky 4th-wall break in the manner of the loading screens theory, i like the this is a Jacob’s Ladder purgatory-type situation theory, but this is a theory i just read and i really think i like it most of all

I 110% agree with this post in every single way, i hate the corruption and bloated bureaucracy but compared to the other factions, especially the fucking legion cause fuck those cosplayers
