built of the earth, born of the divine    (    carefully shaped by the hands of anu    &    aruru, a beast made of clay    )    left to wander the earth with only the barest strings of purpose. the chains of heaven; meant to return a demigod to their own pantheon. how foolish that command was, for something which had no sense of self, had no understanding of the world around it but for the chiming melody of a priestess’ voice in their ear    (    charmed into a human guise, made in her image    ).    how little they truly understood even then    (    oh, but their purpose was now known having since been granted something similar to a soul    —    a piece of knowledge tightly grasped blooming into full understanding    ).    they had wished to walk amongst humanity. for that, they know, they had died.

their body was not their own, their existence not their choice.

it was interesting how, then, they had ended up here. further still born of a false war    &    left against all odds within the throne, should they not have been summoned for a purpose   ?    a discrepancy against the rest    (    demigods    &    kings, the easy way with which all walked along the earth in light of its creatures    ).    they were born to notice the divine, not learn that of mortality, it should never have made it into their essence.

all of which is why that before them was so much more noticeable. the base components, of course, were easy enough    —    the simplistic gaze of that which knows little else could make out the form of a man sitting quietly on a bench. enkidu was not made of the same pieces that confined humanity into its pockets of understanding    (    those driven by magic to fix that, reach a new plane, uninteresting to them    ).    no, instead they saw the slumped form of something much grander; shuffling between images    &    burning with the same divinity only granted by gods. the crackle of energy in the air easy enough to distinguish from the cries of the earth below    (    barefoot in the cold wind of autumn, shock of summer a bright mark against the dull chill of reds    &    browns    &    the smell of decay; the earth claims all but they were no longer cursed to bear such    ).    the distant clash of thunder bringing a smile to their lips.

quiet steps, careful in their approach with bright gaze peering past the shell to the expanse beyond. oh, enkidu knew of the other careful creations of the universe, partaken in the magic the divine wrought    (    a weapon, the carefully formed dirt turned sentience not the same as divinity shoved into something which can barely confine it    ).    gently their fingers touched the arm of the bench; white fabric blown in the wind, the echo of the earth in their chest.

❝     hello, I couldn’t help but notice    —     ❞     the magic in their veins thrumming in response, basking in how much it felt like the world before it lost it’s faith    (    the age of gods shining in one being with relative ease    )     ❝     —    ah, you are one of them, yes    ?    built of the heavens.     ❞

crystals gaze peers towards the other, eyes alight with curiosity. there were many things enkidu could have asked    (    many people, still, with whom they could have stopped    )    but even so humanity was still fickle. this place    (    a city, builds grown high in eternities seconds    )    was not a comfort. the lost touch of the earth alight beneath their feet leaving their attitude soiled. pieces of them so grown amongst the mortal filled with a sense of loss    —    even all this time later emotions a learned understanding    (    shamhats voice in their ear, as fingers gently braided hair to match her own; a bright presence in the distance    ).    the careful touch of fingers against the buildings wall, raising their voice just enough to grab the persons attention as their other hand pointed into the distance.     ❝     ah, would you know where I could find that tree    ?    I seem to have lost my bearings.     ❞

❝ That’s some fancy chain and lightning work you have there, Lancer. But that’s just living up to your name, isn’t it? ❞ Hijikata’s rifle was slung over his own shoulder idly, having watched the Lancer make quick work of their enemies with considerable skill. The presence of the preternatural no longer sent him into awe, though one could not deny the grace yet brutality with which Enkidu fought.

A corpse stirred, not completely robbed of life. Hijikata took aim and fired.

He bothered not to speak more, never the sort to waste his breath with trivial pleasantries. It was not that he detested Enkidu. No, one warrior to another he could perceive commonality and within such, respect bloomed. Yet that was the extent of it. A “working relationship”, most were inclined to call it. Not that it was terribly concerning. They needed to move one. So long as Enkidu did what they needed to do and fought with a certain degree of honor, well, it was all that mattered to Hijikata.

@fictile ♥’d for a starter ( accepting ! )

There was a thrill about the battlefield  ---  the kind of thing brutality innate in all creatures bursting forth in savage bloodshed.  The fights in a place such as this no different.  Monsters and servants alike poised before them all but left to have their strings cut  (  falling to skill far surpassing their own  ).  Enkidu knew, at some point, they would find the true fight.  They always did.  Somewhere in the mess of bloody chaos farther afield their reason for being here.

They said it was to save the world.  Wild haze tinging their vision  (  their thoughts  ).

 *HIJIKATA.

Rising from their own position, crouched nearby  (  tinges of static flickering around them slowly dying  ).  Golden glow now but a dull thing.  ❝  And you are not to bad with that gun, yes  ??  I would say that suits a berserker just fine.  ❞  Few steps closer to look out past the other, past the dead.  Light on their feet as they started forward again with a considerate hum  ---  they had more work to do.  ❝  Though, I do not think these are...  traits, of my class.  Most seem to carry around true lances.  ❞  Humored words shot the others way  (  quick as a whip, breeze blown grass  ).  ❝  Come on then.  We should not keep the rest of the party waiting.  ❞

❝ Did you see everything you needed to see? ❞

king arthur: legend of the sword  ╱  not accepting.

Turning to face the other, gaze meeting shades of red  (  natures partial smile  ).  Had they  ??  A twist of fate returning what was once lost  ---  an eternity, locked out of their grasp  ---  all but a miracle.  Enkidu was not about to refuse such a gift; each moment treasured.  While usually prone to tagging along behind  (  they did not have many wants, content to simply exist in his presence  )  ---  it had been a field trip of sorts, a surprise  !!  floating about in streaks of blue brimming with voices.  The lancer was not the fondest of humanity’s traps, but they could acknowledge the too seldom benefits.

An aquarium was entirely unexpected  ---  not one drenched in people but quiet along the coast.  Gilgamesh knew them too well  (  careful fingers drifting between tanks, bright eyes, to accompany a soft melody; learning along their path  ).

Did You See Everything You Needed To See?

❝  I have seen far more then I hoped.  ❞  Footsteps gliding them closer  (  running off ahead in excitement, solemn thoughts that had soon been sparked with delight  ).  Enkidu’s hand raising to grasp their friend's sleeve.  ❝  Thank you.  ❞

me  ??  reblogging a hc meme  ??  sounds strange fake  ╱  always accepting.

this is relevant:  Enkidu does not know how to cook.  they have never needed to nor wanted to.  for them food is whatever is put in front of them  &&  they have no real understanding of good v bad / etc.  usually, when they do eat, its fruits / veggies / cooked meats  —  they don’t do the whole adding spices / what have you to cook it thing.  they’re  ??  very picky about modern foods  (  stuff is so processed / fake tasting to them  )  but they’re also not against experimenting  &&  trying new things  (  they have a ridiculous sweet tooth  ).  if you have them in the kitchen please, please, have someone playing babysitter or who knows what you’ll be eating; they just combine stuff that smells nice  ??  &&  hope for the best.  there’s absolutely no guarantee it’s cooked properly nor safe to consume.
