IT HAPPENED THE MAP IS DONE!!
I finished inking the final version of the Camp Jupiter map!!!! AHAHDHAHAHAHAH >:D I haven’t colored it yet but honestly right now that’s the last of my worries because I WANNA TALK ABOUT IT :3

This is the bland, un-touched (I’ll go in and fix some of those wonky lines probably) of my rendition of the Camp Jupiter map based on a very basic research of Ancient Roman legionary camps, sort-of information from the books, and my own noggin!
You can see that all of it is numbered, and that’s because I am listing out what everything is. Which is right below,
Porta Praetoria; the Porta Praetoria is the gate located on the north wall, connected to the Via Praetoria and would’ve been the main gate (still debating on if that’s true because of the orientation I have for Camp Jupiter and its surroundings)
Porta Principalis Sinistra; left main gate, the one that leads out to the field of mars, temple hill, and New Rome
Porta Principalis dextra; the opposite to the Porta Principalis Sinistra- on the right side of the wall. Faces Calcedott(?) tunnel, the deepest part of the little Tiber, fun stuff.
Porta Decumana; South Gate, opposite to the Porta Praetoria, also connects a road to the temple hill but it’s a longer route.
Via Quintana; separates the Retentura from the Latera Praetorrii(?) doesn’t lead to any gates and I added it in for the organizational aspect of camp.
Via Praetoria/Via decumana; forgot to label Via Decumana but the two combine to be the main vertical road from the Porta Praetoria to the Porta Decumana- each start at their respective gates and end once they hit the Principa.
Via Principalis; the road that connects the Principalis Sinistra and Principalis Dextra gates, separates the Praetentura and Latera Praetorrii.
Cohort One Barracks; like the name, they are the 1st cohort’s barracks, I chose to put them there as their status as the ‘special troops’ inside my headcanon, and this is where the most important cohort and the special troop barracks or whatever would be located
Cohort 2 barracks; similar reasonings to Cohort 1, also just wanted things to look somewhat symmetrical, and it worked to space out all the buildings.
Bathhouses; the Praetentura (this area of Camp) would’ve been where the Bathhouses were in permanent camps so I put them there, and they helped balance out the space. We all know what the bathhouses are- I still have to think about how they operate but for now I’m pushing that to the bottom of my list!
Principa; know that I had 2 full pages of notes on the Principa that was from fort Nijmegen and an article I read on that. But it’s the main center of operations, wasn’t actually located directly where the roads met (from my discoveries and the style of Roman Camp I was deciding to base this off) located in the Latera Praetorrii. It houses where the Praetor’s sleep (makes it a lot simpiler versus whatever was happening in the books because I couldn’t tell you where Rick decided to put them) it housed a great hall, the Aedes- where the standards and legion emblems would’ve been stored. And the Aerarium(treasury room thingy) would’ve been in there. It would’ve had four walls and a courtyard in the center, but I chose to just block out the buildings so for the moment it is not shown.
Cafeteria/dining hall thing; it was mentioned in the books and felt significant enough that I kept it in. During my research I didn’t find any word about a specific building dedicated to eating meals, so I just slapped it next to the Principa and called it a day.
Hospital; alternatively called the the Valitudinarium(?) and it’s as you guessed. A hospital, not much information I could give because we know what Hospitals are- though I’d like to give the hc statistic that the 3rd cohort has the highest number of legionnaires that work as medics.
Armories; they balance out the Latera Praetorrii, would’ve been put there. And I assume at the very least how I depicted them they’d be multistoried(?) or have several floors for the cohorts and the types of weapons and things.
3rd cohort barracks; the barracks for the 3rd cohort, placed in the Retentura(? I don’t want to go back to look at how it’s spelled for the moment) where the more basic common cohorts would’ve been, opposite to the 4th cohorts to balance it out.
4th cohort barracks; same as the 3rd cohort. I’ll go more in detail in a barracks specific post over the interior n stuff but yeah :3
5th cohort barracks; actually swapped places with the 2nd cohort barracks sometimes during the early 90s after Varus and the 5th lost the standard and the legion saw them as the worst cohort (remember it was mentioned that back it in the 80’s they were said to be the best? I like that plot line) but also was the bane of my existence to put somewhere.
Horreum; the food storage area of Camp, probably more than pictured but for the sake of simplicity one is shown. Stores the food used in the Dining hall and stuff.
Also the Horreum, accidentally labeled it as a different building lol.
The Stables; technically they would’ve been inside of the Latera Praetorrii but for space and organization reasons I put it opposite to the 5th barracks, also makes Hazel’s legionnaire story make the most streamlined sense.
Retendura(?); the lowest part of camp, closest to the Porta Decumana, historically housed the other cohorts and the grain storage.
Latera Praetorrii; also called by the Praetorium, it held all the important buildings and things. The more hustle and bustle part of camp Jupiter.
Praetentura; closest to the Porta Praetoria, would’ve housed all of the strongest/important/well-respected legionnaires/cohorts. And the bathhouses :3
Forgot to mention it but there is another road called the Via Sagularis that would’ve been around the walls on the Intervallum (the space between the buildings and the ramparts) I didn’t draw it in because I blanked and forgot about it, when I post the colored version it’ll be there
I left out a couple buildings like the Auguratorium/Auguraculum (saw it referred to by both names. But it’s a place for the Augur to Augur stuff if I remember correctly) and other things. I wanted to get the big buildings down and I’d like to note this is a basic overview map, if I finally break out the big paper and decide on a scale I’ll position all those. But that’s for later Kleos.
I mentioned the 5th cohorts barracks changing and I’d like to say I think that is a procedure that could occur with Senate approval. Though it’s not a historically accurate/based concept.
Hehehehehe I’m really happy to have it done! Or really close to being done lol. I might draw it out on a bigger piece of paper to show off and put up on a wall, but for now I’m glad to just color this and be proud. I’ll make some posts explaining important buildings and their layouts (Principa, Barracks, etc) and then I’ll work on the… New Rome map. Hhhhhhh. But Powers thing probably won’t be until after Christmas. I’ll probably post later.
Silly Billy on the internet talks about how much they hate minimalism for 5 minutes; a post.
Know what? I was going to go and make the post about Camp Jupiter’s views on powers (which- my synopsis is; they don’t like them, or value them much and they are somewhat like ostracized as something not to be relied on- ties in with a bunch of stuff I’ll explain but yeah-)
But then I got a giant spike to shout to the rooftops about how much I hate minimalism.
Sure minimalism is whatever and whatever. But you know what it is? The rich man’s aesthetic, it’s ruined so much of interesting things simply for the measure of trying to look more expensive.
There was a rant I once went on about how I hate modern architecture. But this adds on to my hate of the Minimalism umbrella. It takes away any life that has been put into homes and sucks it dry. Like- look at some of these photos,

I’ll be honest I pulled these off of google, do I have background knowledge. No? Do I have the innate urge to sob and give up on humanity when I see them. Yes. The removal of these beautiful and graceful architectural styles is (also the removal of a lot of history and important parts of history because architecture plays a big role on that and blah, blah, blah) icky. I don’t like seeing this ultra-modern architecture, it makes me feel nervous when I see Seattle and these beautiful historic buildings and worry that someone with big pockets and a ego will go turn it into giant glass tower because of whatever stupid reason.
Please, minimalism makes me feel gross and I refuse to like it. Am I too upset at the moment to form a solid argument, yes. Do I want to come onto my tumblr where everyone probably agrees with me and argue to the brick wall about how much I hate minimalism, no? But am I feeling irrationally angry at any minimalistic, modern aesthetics, modern high art (you know the type of modern high art I mean, I’ll be honest I don’t like abstract pieces-)
I am a biased source because I personally am 6-feet-under in the opposite direction for maximalism, (it’s not hoarding, please look at maximalism beside minimalism and tell me what looks better. I know that’s personal opinion but this is my i am very upset about something that isn’t just a fictional book series moment) along with just older styles. I don’t like modern architecture.
Anyway on that note I love what they did for the big house in PJO tv show and it is amazing and every set makes me so happy because it directly makes me giggle and kick my feet and like hainensnfksjdbfjsjsnfjs. I love it and I want more people to build in the same vein as them because I garuntee they look 10x as better than the awful black and white box mansions.
Also I have a family friend who works in architecture and like making houses and I cry everytime they bring me to their next work site and it’s this beautiful building that is amazing. I remember being brought to an old run down 1910s-1940s era farmhouse and being really excited only to come back maybe a year later and finding a sickening black and white monochromatic farmhouse nightmare that I genuinely almost sobbed at.
But I love my family friend and the work she and her husband do and that to a degree it’s also client opinion but like- she makes a lot of the choices for these things and the next time I am brought out to their project sight I will be sitting there strongly encouraging to fight against the oppressive hand of minimalism. That was extreme, but I really like architecture, never talk about it- but genuinely one of my favorite things in this world is architecture and interior design
(If anyone cares my current favorite building is the La Sagrada Familia that is being constructed in Barcelona.)
Anyway that was a angry rant because I just got very upset for no reason over current western (I live in america and therefore don’t speak for the rest of the world, but in regards to the U.S.A which is Tartarus trust me) mainstream trends and culture deciding to lean into this minimalism clean era, which has been influenced by a myriad of things (see I can use myriad in a sentence- only know the word because of Heathers: The musical lol-)
But I’ll be posting that Camp Jupiter powers post… at some point when I write it. I hate minimalism and I pinky promise that I have more interests outside of Percy Jackson.
Okay, because i keep shouting from the rooftops about a daughter of Janus in Camp Jupiter Classified or whatever I’m not grabbing the book to look, being named Janice. And how much that personally annoys me,
First off I have no qualms with her character because I haven’t read about Janice yet. But both names are pronounced the same, Janice is literally just a female version of Janus. It just felt lazy.
Which like- I get names don’t have to be deep about these characters, and a name can be rather surface level. But Janice feels lazy in my opinion and It just really rubs me the wrong way. For a legacy of Janus sure Janice is silly and it’s a little cheeky to reference their lineage. But from a direct descendant? That just ainduejdjdoaodmfn, y’know?
But here are the alternatives I’m thinking over for when I get to talking about hc for Janice and other characters,
January; it’s still a silly little reference to Janus, but it feels a little different- it’s not pronounced the same way and feels more eccentric. And while I haven’t read Camp Jupiter field guide I feel like Janice gives me silly eccentric vibes.
iana; Iana (I spelled it originally with the lowercase because I get confused over lowercase L and uppercase I on my phone) is a Roman Goddess that is associated with the moon and arches- usually considered either a form of Diana (Artemis’s Roman counterpart) or a counterpart to Janus. It feels a little more, interesting- like my mind can go so many story ideas with just naming her Iana, and it’s a much subtler reference.
Okay I wish I said I had more but I generally like the concept of Iana the most from the brief research I did.
But I’ll get inking update out tomorrow!!
Good night :3
Gonna work on some schoolwork but I’m gonna get a post out about my thoughts on how Camp Jupiter views powers/Godly inherited abilities soon.
Also map will probably be drawn.. at some point :D
the day jk rowling dies is the day i experience true, pure happiness
