Octavian!

Octavian!

Do I know what I am going to write in this? Vaguely. More headcanons because I want to take a break from that rendering of Octavian because I want to work and make something better than putting effort into something I won’t be proud of or whatever.

Also I just want to keep talking about him but whatever,

Octavian never been outside of Camp Jupiter/New Rome is canon in my mind. There have been very few times he has been outside the little bubble, which were,

The Wolf House: where he really just stayed close to the house (obvi. Course I’d love to talk more about the exacts but since we get no information about the wolf house though it’d be a pretty good way to start SoN and then seamlessly blend us into a timeskip of the Gorgon chase but whatever- we are given no information about the wolf house either and aaaaa-) but the Wolf House Octavian mentality was survive through with his wits and try to survive enough to run out of there as soon as possible when he has the training done.

His quest: we get no information on it, but we know that he had to do a quest to become a Centurion (Can confirm this is a rule, check the Senate scene near the beginning, I believe it was Larry the legionnaire that yelled it) though we also, sadly, get no indication what this question was. But I’d like to introduce the idea that it was a duo quest with Michael and Octavian and they became Centurions together (I’ll probably re-read this and then add more on later) but I’d assume this Question also has them steeped pretty deep into the mythological side of the world and they didn’t get much down time. But what little of the mortal world Octavian saw he thought was pretty cool- though he still thinks New Rome looks better. (Because if anyone walks up to me and says the current era of architecture we’re in is better than anything that predates the freaking 1950’s is lying to me and trying to make me buy a house. We have fallen as a society when we started thinking ultra minimalist boring homes that are devoid of any depth or visual interest was the best route to go for our buildings. But that’s another rant from me for another day-)

Siege of Mt.Tam: they had to travel the smallest bit for this but again, didn’t interact with the mortal world much, they all stayed pretty self contained to the temporary camp and the mountain itself.

The cross country trip to go attack the Greeks: this is the one we’re shown in canon or whatever. But this was probably the most chaotic of the times that Octavian had been out of Camp. It was a lot to deal with, really overwhelming to be stuck with everyone with no where to move or anything. But this would be the most he would really interact with stuff like fast food chains, gas stations, all the stuff. And New York, that was a thing that happened. I believe they briefly passed through New York (we know that at some point they’re inside of New York from the Rachel scene if I remember properly) and that meant Hotels, it was similar enough to the barracks that it was fine. Though I think that the whiplash from New Rome to this made Octavian a lot more hesitant about stuff like these cities. He likes modern culture to some extent (insert another Build-a-bear joke. And if anyone asks, I believe he totally gets them delivered to calcedott tunnel instead of going out to a physical store. He has never had the experience and childlike splendor of making one that that needs to change.)

Anyway yeah. I would also like to say that Octavian is okay on a string instrument. However I would like to say that he put all his eggs into one figurative basket when he was a small child by learning one full song only. A 6 year old Octavian skipped over learning reading notes and whatever and just copying the motions until it sounded okay. He doesn’t really know how to read stuff like notes or whatever but has a pretty okay sense of Rhythm.

Don’t ask him to dance though. Octavian may look a little more elegant moving around or fighting but he is an actual newborn giraffe.

Okay that’s all I have for now. Have a rad time and I’ll get out the next couple passes of the CJ map.

I Know Its Not Hard To Point Out Reactionaries Hypocrisy When It Comes To Like Safe Spaces Or Hug Boxes

I know it’s not hard to point out reactionaries hypocrisy when it comes to like safe spaces or hug boxes or whatever but genuinely how much of an echo chamber do you have to exist in for you to think this is a reasonable thing to say

Okay, because i keep shouting from the rooftops about a daughter of Janus in Camp Jupiter Classified or whatever I’m not grabbing the book to look, being named Janice. And how much that personally annoys me,

First off I have no qualms with her character because I haven’t read about Janice yet. But both names are pronounced the same, Janice is literally just a female version of Janus. It just felt lazy.

Which like- I get names don’t have to be deep about these characters, and a name can be rather surface level. But Janice feels lazy in my opinion and It just really rubs me the wrong way. For a legacy of Janus sure Janice is silly and it’s a little cheeky to reference their lineage. But from a direct descendant? That just ainduejdjdoaodmfn, y’know?

But here are the alternatives I’m thinking over for when I get to talking about hc for Janice and other characters,

January; it’s still a silly little reference to Janus, but it feels a little different- it’s not pronounced the same way and feels more eccentric. And while I haven’t read Camp Jupiter field guide I feel like Janice gives me silly eccentric vibes.

iana; Iana (I spelled it originally with the lowercase because I get confused over lowercase L and uppercase I on my phone) is a Roman Goddess that is associated with the moon and arches- usually considered either a form of Diana (Artemis’s Roman counterpart) or a counterpart to Janus. It feels a little more, interesting- like my mind can go so many story ideas with just naming her Iana, and it’s a much subtler reference.

Okay I wish I said I had more but I generally like the concept of Iana the most from the brief research I did.

But I’ll get inking update out tomorrow!!

Good night :3

*Guys this is a silly little post and don’t take anything I say very seriously, if I sound upset or angry in my tone I’m not I just sound like that when I talk about opinions on Octavian that I don’t agree with lol- didn’t need to make this post and it’s long for like no reason but whatever, I am a blabberer so I have to blabber when I get excited*

*also me from the future; i just like talking about my silly little opinions and this a great stepping stone for me to wave my hands and talk about Octavian and Luke- and give a little insight on why I like Octavian more than Luke, even if there isn’t much reasoning for why I like Octavian as much as I do*

I’ve come across this post and as my two top favorites are being pitted against each other I feel a personal responsibility to finally go on my Luke rant.

I like Luke- the weird pedophilic actions that were in TLO.. funky and gross and I don’t like it and I hope that it doesn’t happen in the show (if we get that far). But in writing (again except for the weird Annabeth stuff), characterization, being an actual threat. Luke does it better.

Do I like Luke more than Octavian? No. As soon as I saw Luke I knew he was going to be my favorite in the PJO first arc, he still is my second favorite. But Octavian took the throne. I still think about Octavian on the regular, Luke doesn’t cross my mind.

Octavian’s writing, DOG. I’ll be honest, I have said it before, I (and if I may be so bold to say; nearly everyone) hates his writing. Things that Luke do better Octavian’s writing fails at.

Of course pretty much everyone except the niche tumblr corner I’ve found almost unanimously agrees that they like Luke and hate Octavian.

Luke and Octavian are like trying to compare something like a orange slice and a Orange blossom bud (guys I just ate an orange they’re on my mind and the first fruit that I can use in this comparison)

Luke is the orange slice, he’s made it full circle in his great (not including later Annabeth plotlines-) characterization, he had his bud- he bloomed, and now we get to eat and enjoy it and savor it.

Octavian would be the orange bud, he had the potential for having the characterization and care (except for the Annabeth thing and I won’t shut up about it because it’s weird and makes me dislike things for messing with a character that had not had anything in that area of characterization at all until his last breaths-) that Luke had. Octavian could’ve been something, but the ball was dropped. That blossom bud had the full potential to be the orange slice but didn’t.

Okay sorry if the orange rant was weird, but long story short they are different things that are hard to compare (like trying to compare PJO Atlas and PJO Orion or something)

I like thinking of concepts for Luke, I like deciding to drop that little Annabeth line and making concepts for him.

The only reason I probably don’t talk about Luke is because Octavian, Bryce Lawerence, and Camp Jupiter had taken me by storm and enamored me. Luke may be objectively better than Octavian, but for the purposes I use either of the characters. I think Octavian has more potential to look into and has more depth because he was absolutely butchered. Luke is a good character to like and enjoy and then you can’t do much with him- he has solid characterization, he has a story that is harder to build on in my opinion.

And for my reasons for liking characters and how I pick characters I see as ‘better’ for me to put time into, that is why I like Octavian more than Luke. Do I think objectively Octavian is better, no of course not. Do I think that Luke can give me any of the satisfaction that I get from yapping about Octavian, also not-

This is so unserious but I just like jabbering on and blabbering. I love Octavian and Luke they are my 1st and 2nd favorite characters in the series (my 3rd is Bryce Lawerence if anyone would like to know) and I wanted to take an opportunity to talk about them and this argument that seems to have been happening for a while. I like Octavian more because apparently I forgot Camp Half-Blood was a thing and only talk about Camp Jupiter and it’s residents and those characters just make me so much more interested than a lot of Camp Half-Bloods. I think Luke is fun and serves a good purpose but that’s like- it. I just like Octavian more, big shocker I know lol.

That Camp Jupiter powers post is uh.. somewhere? I haven’t gotten around to it- If anyone wants insight to my creative process for things like the posts that I talk about my hc over things in Camp Jupiter it’s literally me through the day just saying things as they come to my mind and fit into my hc world

Silly Billy on the internet talks about how much they hate minimalism for 5 minutes; a post.

Know what? I was going to go and make the post about Camp Jupiter’s views on powers (which- my synopsis is; they don’t like them, or value them much and they are somewhat like ostracized as something not to be relied on- ties in with a bunch of stuff I’ll explain but yeah-)

But then I got a giant spike to shout to the rooftops about how much I hate minimalism.

Sure minimalism is whatever and whatever. But you know what it is? The rich man’s aesthetic, it’s ruined so much of interesting things simply for the measure of trying to look more expensive.

There was a rant I once went on about how I hate modern architecture. But this adds on to my hate of the Minimalism umbrella. It takes away any life that has been put into homes and sucks it dry. Like- look at some of these photos,

I’ll be honest I pulled these off of google, do I have background knowledge. No? Do I have the innate urge to sob and give up on humanity when I see them. Yes. The removal of these beautiful and graceful architectural styles is (also the removal of a lot of history and important parts of history because architecture plays a big role on that and blah, blah, blah) icky. I don’t like seeing this ultra-modern architecture, it makes me feel nervous when I see Seattle and these beautiful historic buildings and worry that someone with big pockets and a ego will go turn it into giant glass tower because of whatever stupid reason.

Please, minimalism makes me feel gross and I refuse to like it. Am I too upset at the moment to form a solid argument, yes. Do I want to come onto my tumblr where everyone probably agrees with me and argue to the brick wall about how much I hate minimalism, no? But am I feeling irrationally angry at any minimalistic, modern aesthetics, modern high art (you know the type of modern high art I mean, I’ll be honest I don’t like abstract pieces-)

I am a biased source because I personally am 6-feet-under in the opposite direction for maximalism, (it’s not hoarding, please look at maximalism beside minimalism and tell me what looks better. I know that’s personal opinion but this is my i am very upset about something that isn’t just a fictional book series moment) along with just older styles. I don’t like modern architecture.

Anyway on that note I love what they did for the big house in PJO tv show and it is amazing and every set makes me so happy because it directly makes me giggle and kick my feet and like hainensnfksjdbfjsjsnfjs. I love it and I want more people to build in the same vein as them because I garuntee they look 10x as better than the awful black and white box mansions.

Also I have a family friend who works in architecture and like making houses and I cry everytime they bring me to their next work site and it’s this beautiful building that is amazing. I remember being brought to an old run down 1910s-1940s era farmhouse and being really excited only to come back maybe a year later and finding a sickening black and white monochromatic farmhouse nightmare that I genuinely almost sobbed at.

But I love my family friend and the work she and her husband do and that to a degree it’s also client opinion but like- she makes a lot of the choices for these things and the next time I am brought out to their project sight I will be sitting there strongly encouraging to fight against the oppressive hand of minimalism. That was extreme, but I really like architecture, never talk about it- but genuinely one of my favorite things in this world is architecture and interior design

(If anyone cares my current favorite building is the La Sagrada Familia that is being constructed in Barcelona.)

Anyway that was a angry rant because I just got very upset for no reason over current western (I live in america and therefore don’t speak for the rest of the world, but in regards to the U.S.A which is Tartarus trust me) mainstream trends and culture deciding to lean into this minimalism clean era, which has been influenced by a myriad of things (see I can use myriad in a sentence- only know the word because of Heathers: The musical lol-)

But I’ll be posting that Camp Jupiter powers post… at some point when I write it. I hate minimalism and I pinky promise that I have more interests outside of Percy Jackson.
