How does it ultimately end for the pair in the Babey overlord AU?
Badly.
For, it is the structure of such a story like RWBY, to end with the good guys winning, and misguided and twisted as they are, Ruby are not good people and they have done horrible things.
The final stage is at Ruby and Oscar’s castle, at their domain of darkness and grimm. Ruby is the first to go, the strategic move of getting rid of the queen from the chessboard, before surrounding the king. The only mercy Oscar gets is that, at least, he doesn’t have to live long without Ruby at his side.
At least in the afterlife, they’re together.
This is probably better suited for our DM conversations, but...Can you understand where some folks are coming from when being critical of ya homeboi, Whitley? Most notably about how they might just seem him as a conniving little twerp rather than a genuine victim? Not asking this to be ranting. Just merely curious is all given how you stan him. Better yet, what about some people finding him just plain annoying if you took the abuse context out? Sorry for the long question, Ez. Just curious.
Yes, I can definitely understand where some people are coming from when they say Whitley is annoying. I’m pretty it’d be the same response from characters who don’t know the context behind his behaviour in the show. (Actually, it is. Not a lot of characters was a fan of Whitley at the gala.)
If Weiss is anything to go by, Whitley has been isolated socially from others, and this has stunted his social skills. And so, we get the condescending words, the snarky tone, and Whitley overall acting like a brat. And when people like this, it doesn’t endear them to others naturally.
Most of the other characters, like Ironwood and Sun, are more grounded in their behaviour, kinder and nicer, and it’s easier for people to like them. And some villains are more liked than Whitley is in RWBY, like Tyrian for example, who have dramatic flair to back up his deranged manner and rudeness.
Whitley has not displayed dramatic flair or kinder attributes (like being a jerk with a heart of gold) to back up his behaviour. And his appearances haven’t really helped either, being antagonistic to Weiss and sycophantic to Jacques (who is a villain) and, when you’re not factoring elements like the reason he is like his abuse and his age, it’s totally plausible to not like Whitley.
But look.
You don’t have to like Whitley.
It’s totally fine to not like a character, regardless if they’re nice or have a tragic backstory. I don’t like Robyn Hill, I think her design is boring and her brashness gets on my nerves, and she’s the Champion of the People, and looks out for others worse off than her.
There are always going to be characters you like and don’t like. And people either like Whitley or don’t like. And either way is totally fine, because at the end of the day, people are going to have different opinions.
Tl:dr; Yeah, it’s totally understandable if people don’t like Whitley, he acts like a brat and has nothing to back it up other than familial abuse. But everyone is going to have different opinions so it’s ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
How would animals in RWBY view Faunus? What would be your deepest take on it? Of course, I leave this discussion to the rest of your viewers to decide.
I feel like there’d be a shared sort of familiarity for species viewing faunus of the same race as them (e.g. a cat and a cat faunus). It’d be easier for animals of the same species as faunus to trust and communicate with them. I’m pretty sure Blake had a few mother cats coming up to her and trying to groom or mother her, and Marrow’s popular with the local dogs in Mantle and Atlas.
But as for differing species, animals be like ‘oh what is this? it’s a hooman with funny skin. this is weird’ or ‘get the hell away from me. you’re not a hooman and you’re not an animal either. what are you????’
This is really an interesting thing to think about and would love to see more of this discussed, so I urge my followers to comment their thoughts on this.
