Some notes I put together for my CDA Class. Just stuff that I use. Take with grain of salt.
Preston Blair
now most people don’t know who he is, but know his work. He is basically the animator who perfected the cartoon movements in animation.

he’s also done lots more in cartoon animation but if I’d drag the post if i type any more of his work

This one was a popular demand. Many people people asked me about anatomy tips.
I know how hard this topic is and how confusing at the beginning. It’s just so much to learn! Exactly! I remember how lost I was in the beginning and trying out things that actually didn’t help me understand anatomy better.
Actually what I want to convey here is that you can learn to draw human without learning all the muscles and bones. My personal opinion, based on experience is actually that you can do that as something extra. Learning muscles and bones won’t help you draw. True story.
If you grasps few essential concepts first you will be better off, plus you will be actually drawing characters. You will be more confident in your lines and gain knowledge that will be enough to create artwork you want.
Look at body as any other object you want to draw. Simplifying and remembering the simplest ideas is way to go.
Remember: these few ideas I am presenting are just a tip of an iceberg. As you will progress you will expand your knowledge beyond few essential points.
This is my personal approach so I can’t say it will work for you. I know that it works for me
Hope you like it!

Hey, friends! It’s Meg with another TUTOR TUESDAY!, I’ve finally bit the bullet and tried out a hand tutorial! Hopefully there’s something new that will help you along with hands! If you have any tutorial recommendations for next week, lemme know! As always, keep practicing, have fun, and I’ll see you next week!

Oh, Vienna
can you do a tutorial on how to draw swords? Idk if you really can but just wondering. I should probably practice drawing objects more but i always have a hard time drawing swords :\\
the two main things i’d try to focus on would be learning the general anatomy of a sword and figuring out how those parts can be simplified into 3d shapes!
by just googling the words “sword anatomy” i’ve found a couple sites that go over the different parts of a sword and their functions
(they all focus more on european swords so i’m focusing this post more on european swords as well because they’re kind of the “generic/default” type of sword. for other swords though you can probably just find the name of the type of the sword you want to draw and google about it (eg. i googled “katana parts” and found these resources.) if you want to be hardcore you can go to a library or something and read books about swords)
to sum it up though swords are basically like this:

and then the next part is just breaking things down into 3d shapes so that they’re easier to draw at different angles and stuff

(simplifying a sword into a pole or something also makes it a lot easier to pose onto a character)

there are all kinds of swords so in general i think it’s good to just keep an observant eye out for things like distinct shapes and details and stuff, and (most importantly) to actually apply and experiment with your observations in your art!

How to draw FOREGROUND MIDGROUND BACKGROUND by STUDIOBLINKTWICE

by any chance could you do a lil tutorial/process of how you draw limbs in different poses? esp. legs/thighs, your legs always look so jaunty and charming i love it but i never know what to, ,, ,,, do with mine, like where to put them so
Okay! I’m going to try to answer this best I can, but before I do, please remember I am just a humble animation student and by no means a professional artist or a seasoned expert, so this might not be the correct way to do things or be extremely accurate. This is just how I do it, and a couple tips I’ve picked up from teachers at school.
First of all, getting familiar with the anatomy of legs helps a lot! (I know this is the dreaded answer to every art question) I don’t know too much about the muscles of the legs other than the basics, so I don’t talk about them here because I don’t want to look like an idiot. They’re very worth studying though, especially the muscles that form the inside of the thigh and back of the calf.

Those are some leg studies I did from life in class last year, with the key parts labelled.
Chances are you’ve tried to draw legs and??

Unless you’re going for a certain style, legs that look like straight tubes or 90 degree angles are gonna look a bit weird.
As you can see with the life drawings above, legs have certain natural curves and rhythms to them! None of the bones in the legs are straight or tubular, so your legs should not be either.

Sorry for the really mediocre pelvis it’s not my strong suit oh god. It’s easy to characterize the legs as something like this:

Remembering that the knee is a hinge joint and that it has a sort of curved offset from the upper leg to the lower leg really helps.

So when you keep that offset in mind and apply some curves over the muscle and fat layered on top of those BEAUTIFULLY RHYTHMIC bones, you get dynamic flow in your legs. The hip (trochanter), kneecap (patella) and ankle (fibula/tibia malleolus) are good landmarks to keep in mind.

So by applying some curves, you get a softer/more dynamic/rhythmic feel to the legs that makes your figure look a lot less static even if they are standing entirely still. It’s also worth noting most people shift their weight onto one hip or another, position their feet weirdly, etc etc.
Hope that helps!

Realistic Lace Tutorial by Negshin
perhaps a tutorial about front legs?
yea sure !
i’ve already done a tutorial on back legs, so i guess this will be like the other half to it haha
so ! while a cat’s haunches are a trapezoid, a cats shoulders are like a very skinny and squished half circle. this shape is actually a simplified version of the scapula + humerus bones. it extends from the tip of the shoulder down to the elbow

some things to note about cats is that they have FLAT chests. their chests will not protrude like a dogs. yes, sometimes their fluff and fur may make it look like they have extended chests, but in reality it’s flat

the rest of the leg is fairly simple, it’s just the shoulders i notice a lot of people have problems with. so let’s draw a cat then yea?
i started with the head first, followed by the chest. you can see i used a rounded rhombus for that. starting with the chest + head can help your character feel more stable and proportional and help give weight to the character. then i threw in the shoulders and the rest.
legs are fairly simple, they will get smaller slightly towards the feet. you can make them more muscular or skinny depending on the character you want.
HERE IS AN EASY TRICK FOR PROPORTIONS. A cat’s elbows WILL ALMOST ALWAYS align with their stomach. The beginning of the leg will align with the end of the chest. (obviously if you’re drawing super longhaired cats thats different but)
