Honestly, I may be wrong but I think YG’s main plan is to Debut Team A plus or minus a few members. In Mix and Match (the survival show to debut Ikon) YG made a whole big deal about how ‘no one is confirmed for debut’, ‘you guys need to step it up’, ‘theres no way you can debut like this’, ‘look at me adding 3 new people that can replace 3 whole of your members’ etc and in the end all that happened was 1 additional member was added. YG isn’t stupid he can see how good Team A’s teamwork is and how ready for debut they are, it’s apparent in his smiles when team A is performing. He KNOWS how good they are. But he really just wants to create unnecessary panic and drama and get viewers and new fans. The really unfortunate thing about this though is that the boys (i/e babies !! actual smol children!!) also panic and question themselves and their abilities and suffer for this sake. This is really just me speculating but based on the previous YG survival shows I think this is really his plan. Like he really is using the show to manipulate the viewers feelings about the trainees to what his producers already planned from the beginning: By shitting on Yedam and Hyunsuk on the first few episodes even though they were clearly so skilled, he made people develop soft spots for them. Even though every japanese trainee struggled to leave their family to come to YG, they focused on haruto because its probably a member YG + producers want in the group. If you look at the popularity of each member on vlive, you see that it almost correlates to the amount of screentime / focus they had on the show (except for byunggon idk wth yg is doing with him but at least he has his mixnine popularity lol) but that really says something i think.

tl;dr i think yg is using this show to give us the illusion of getting to pick and put together a debut team when in reality he already has a vision and is trying to make people love, sympathize for, and root for Team A +/- some trainees from the other teams that he might add to the team.
