Imo, Theyre Mutants Because Yokai Have A Track Record Of (for The Most Part) Not Just Being Stereotypical

imo, they’re mutants because yokai have a track record of (for the most part) not just being stereotypical animal creatures, but instead different, more magical creatures (Señor Hueso and Capitan Piel, the Minotaur in Minotaur Maze, etc). The boys, while I love them dearly, are, from an objective standpoint, scientific abominations. A well executed abomination, but an abomination nonetheless. They’re not magical creatures because, at the end of the day, they’re children of science.

HOWEVER! I adore the idea of them being technically considered yokai by the community despite not actually being yokai. In Bug Busters, when Big Mama is asked if everyone there was mutated by Baron Draxum, she denies having known him, but, more importantly, states “we prefer to call ourselves yokai”. While this could be seen as her saying that mutants equals yokai, I believe it’s saying that mutants can be considered yokai (“we prefer to call ourselves yokai”, the usage of “prefer” tells us that they could be called something else and/or are scientifically something else. Maybe this also means that all the yokai that are just anthropomorphic animals are actually just mutants, but that’s beside the point).

guys i saw lots of people have different opinions (or even headcanons) about this one but

I personally see them as mutants because they were actually mutated from animals to half humans (having mutant and human dna);

They might feel similar to yokai appearance wise but they’re still genetically different (?) being something of their own, different from both humans and yokai.

I think yokai as an headcanon is kinda cute but i still like to think they aren’t from either world (kinda being special yk), but really like that they can, like go to restaurants and idk just walking in the open at day hours in the yokai world and they’re no different from the people there!
