There was a clear hesitation in Simon at the question. The immediate response in him was always to avoid it. There was so much he couldn’t remember from his life before that it only taught him to move forward. Move forward and don’t question. It just seemed easier than the alternative. But... it was always different with North. They all understood torment, there was no denying that. He just felt more like he could rely on her than the others. 

Simon let out a sigh, folding his arms over his chest as he looked down between them, “Not really, no,” he finally said after a long moment, “I mean - what does talking about it do, you know,” he shrugged, giving a little smile as he raised his eyes back up to hers, “I don’t - I don’t want to live in the past. I just want to move on. That’s all.”

"Of course I have." Thinking back on his life, all the time he had lived, all that he has seen. He's known many people that have drifted too close on his path, all of which did not typically last. The road Elias walks is a solitary one, but it is at least not lonely.

"But, as I am sure you are well aware, Jon, our... Field, if you will, does not make it particularly easy to keep certain connections. Yes, I have had people I cared about in my life. And I have watched them die because that is what I must do."

"And what good would that do me, to be a decaying corpse once more, when I have a much younger and more able form to work with?" The smugness in his tone was as clear as the grin on his face, "Humor is not the enemy, Jon. Even if you may see it that way."
