Listen, Kira has little impulse control. Especially when it comes to franchises and characters I like.

MORE DRABBLES! Much to the happiness of @tortadecereji and @moontail13 and everyone else I’m sure.

This was a suggestion by IsabelleFukawa on ao3. To have the boys discuss birthdays and Hajime doing something for him.

Hajime didn’t know exactly how it had come up in conversation. He had been chatting with Nagito about various topics while laying on the fluffy hair. And then suddenly, curiosity struck.

“Hey, when is your birthday? I don’t think I’ve ever asked.”

Nagito paused in his trek through the woods, eyes looking up to try and see his passenger. “Huh?”

Hajime crawled forward so that he was visible. “Your birthday. When is it?”

“Birth… day? I am unfamiliar with the term,” Nagito admitted, a claw reaching up and beginning to twirl a lock of hair.

The human thought for a moment, then facepalmed. “Oh right. Snakes hatch. So when was your hatching day?”

The naga perked up at that. “Oh! I see! Well, I don’t know the exact day, as my kind doesn't use your kind’s calendar. But I think it was some time in spring. After almost two full moon cycles, if I had to guess.”

Hajime closed his eyes as he took in this information. “So late April most likely. We can simply assign a day for you. How does April 28th sound?” he asked, deciding on a random number.

The naga seemed happy with it. “Sure! You can help me remember that.” His voice then dropped back to his normal one. “But why do you want to know? It’s just a regular day. Nothing too important.”

“Huh?” That surprised the human. “You don’t celebrate your hatching day?”

“We don’t. We are more solitary creatures, so celebrating anything doesn’t hold much appeal. After all, it isn’t as fun celebrating something on your own than with other people,” Nagito explained. He reached up to make physical contact with his rider. “I’m assuming by your species’ tendency to gather together and your surprise that you do celebrate your first day of life. I am sorry that I can’t sympathize or truly understand.”

Hajime laid his hand on the much larger one near him. “It’s alright! I was just curious. Now then, where are we headed today?”

He tried to act as if the subject was gone and forgotten, dropped to avoid further discussion. But in the human’s mind, it was anything but erased. He had a plan, one that he wanted to do as a surprise. He just needed to go to the store soon, as he had a few things he needed to get.

~~~~~~~~~~
Hajime placed his paper bags of supplies on the table, letting out a breath of relief once his arms were free. Since his idea needed to be big, he had to get a lot of ingredients to complete it. Thankfully, he had enough experience in the kitchen that he knew how to make his idea. So he got to work.
He had told the naga to come over to his home around sunset, as he had something he needed to do. And while the creature had pouted slightly, he agreed, giving him a head nuzzle before leaving.
After learning about what the gesture meant, each nuzzle sparked strong reactions in him. More often than not, he blushed heavily for minutes afterwards. But he pretended to not notice. And the naga only smirked when it happened, never mentioning it. Much to his relief.
But putting that aside, he did intend to do something for the large creature. Since he had obviously never celebrated his birthday before, he had a few to catch up on. So it didn’t matter that today wasn’t the chosen day. This was to make up for birthdays past.
And he knew exactly what to make. A staple for all birthdays. But he took the recipient's size into consideration, so it would be a bit more work than usual. He didn’t mind though. It was exciting to make it for someone other than himself.
Time passed and the day grew older. And as the sun set, the sound of scales scraping against the ground were audible. Right on time, as the human put the finishing touches on his gift. He took his apron off as a claw tapped on the glass of his patio door.
“Hajime? Is it alright for me to be here?” Nagito asked with a hint of caution.
The human went over to the door, opening it and peeking his head out. “Yes, it’s alright. But can you do one thing for me?” He saw the large creature nod. “Close your eyes and don’t open them until I tell you to.”
“Okay!” Nagito agreed, reptilian eyes shutting tight, almost like a small kid overloaded with excitement. The sight made Hajime smile, returning inside briefly to grab his creation, which was a bit heavier than he expected. But he managed to carry it all the way, placing it down on the outdoor table. Grabbing a lighter, he lit the candles and was pleased to see the full creation. And now he could finally give it to its intended recipient.
“Go ahead and look. I hope you like it.”
Nagito did so eagerly, only to be stunned into further silence at the sight. A large plate with four cakes clustered together in a four leaf clover shape and covered with green icing. Each cake had a large lit candle standing proud and flames bright.
“I know you said that you don’t celebrate your hatching day due to not having anyone to celebrate with. But, well, I’m here now. And I want to give you something to thank you for all you do. It’s not the day we picked, but here is something for the other years.”
“Hajime…” Nagito breathed out, still stunned.
The human gestured to the cake. “This is a sweet treat that is extremely common for birthdays. I made multiple because, well, you’re huge. And I decided to have fun with a design because nagas are supposed to bring luck.” He stared up at the green eyes. “Do you… like it?”
He felt himself being grabbed and nuzzled with enthusiasm. “I don’t just like it! I love it! No one has ever done something like this for me! It must have taken you so long to do this. I’m truly grateful.”
Hajime felt his cheeks warm again at the contact, but this time, he didn’t feel shy about it. He was really happy that he had brought so much joy to Nagito. “It wasn’t too hard. Now then, you should try it. See if you like it. If you do, I’ll make you another on your actual birthday.”
“Yes! I can’t wait!” The human was placed back down on the ground. The naga began reaching for the platter, but paused right before grabbing. “Did you want any? I would feel bad if I had it all and didn’t let you have any.”
But Hajime had thought of this. “Not to worry. I made myself some cupcakes with extra batter and icing. So you can have that all,” he assured, whipping out the mini cakes and showing them to the large creature.
Nagito perked right up. “You are so smart. But anyways, thank you for the treat!” He carefully picked the platter up, forked tongue darting out as he smelled it. “Smells nice!”
Not wanting to be rude and stare at someone eating, the brunette focused on his own cupcake. It was a nice vanilla cake with buttercream. Tasty and not too rich. A good cake to introduce someone to. He finished his and saw Nagito putting the platter back down, a bit of green icing on his mouth which he licked off. “Nice and small. I didn’t even have to unhinge my jaw to eat it!”
Hajime suppressed a shudder, recalling a time when he had stumbled upon the naga right before eating. There was a near invisible seam along his jaw that popped open when he ate. But it always took time to return to his usual appearance, which led to a very… unsettling visual. He had simply turned around and exited, doing his best to not think about it.
“I’m glad you liked it. Happy belated birthdays,” he said with a grin.
Nagito leaned down and hugged him to his cheek. “This has been the best birthday ever. Thank you.”
