Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

Random thoughts on Colin & Portia:

I loved watching how the “neighbor boy,” Portia Featherington assumed was a typical rakish gentleman, out of reach and unrealistic for Penelope to like:

Declared his love for her daughter assuredly, fervently and loudly to make sure nobody dared question that he wanted to marry her.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

Defended Penelope fiercely even against her own mother to make clear that mistreating or disrespecting his woman would not be tolerated.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

Discovered Penelope was Lady Whistledown (after he himself said no one would ever marry LW because she would bring ruin on her family) but not only did he not end the engagement despite being upset with Penelope about it, he married her anyway and his vows were undeniably heartfelt and sincere, he gave her a wedding ring which was not necessary or common practice at the time apparently (Daphne just got the one ring from Simon), and he danced with her in broad daylight at their wedding breakfast (rather romantically).

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

He was immediately furious the second he heard that someone would dare blackmail his wife, and not only would he not stand for it, he immediately acted (however misguidedly he did so) intending to protect Penelope and when the situation escalated, he was willing to lie to his family and pay a fortune to keep her safe.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

And much to Portia’s surprise, he took accountability for his part in making things worse when he could have blamed everything on Penelope.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

Then Colin supported Penelope’s choice about how to handle the LW situation and when she revealed herself to the ton.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

When Penelope offered him an annulment to free himself of association with Lady Whistledown, he insisted he was lucky just to be with her because he loved her.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

Then Colin danced with Penelope, clearly sending the message to the ton that he loved and supported his wife. Lady Whistledown did not trap him nor would he be turning his back on her. This was our first glimpse of Colin “My Wife” Bridgerton.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

Colin gave Penelope a son, and the Featherington estate the heir they so desperately needed, and Colin will no doubt raise her grandson to be a man of honor, elevating the formerly mocked and disrespected Featherington family to a level of respectability on par with the Bridgertons.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

As if that weren’t enough, Colin continues to support Penelope as a wife and mother, encouraging her passion for writing/working.

Random Thoughts On Colin & Portia:

That Bridgerton neighbor boy single-handedly made his mother-in-law, a justifiably jaded cynic, believe in love.

I cannot wait to see their relationship in future seasons.

I hope Benophie fans get a book accurate season. All I heard from them for years was that their negativity came from the show runner not being faithful to the books and changing things. Well I hope they get exactly the true adaptation they want.

And frankly Benedict hasn’t had any conflict with anyone else for 3 seasons. Just floating through. It would be nice to actually get to see him presented as having negative traits for once, add some dimension to his character. If they stole so much from Colin already, remember that Colin was the favorite fun loving brother in other books, but his own book revealed he has bad moods and isn’t always positive and charming all the time. Benedict can have that too.

TW: Mentions of blackmail, harassment and threats of rape.

They've already officially started S4 pre-promo and S4 being promoted by the showrunner as a more faithful adaptation of it's book than the other three seasons should be deeply worrying.

We are talking about a book which includes the male lead blackmailing, harassing and threatening to r*pe the female lead if she changes her mind about having sex with him? Twice?

A book that was actually one of the worst reviewed and Benedict one of the most hated for years until the show came out, where in my opinion the ship gained fans mostly because Luke T is attractive.

They literally had to throw Book Benedict out of a window and erase him entirely from the show. He was retconned entirely. They admitted to taking Book Colin and sticking Benedict's name onto him, only allowing him to keep his love of art.

Like, that's not the Benedict the book fans know - so how are they going to keep it faithful when Benedict is not Benedict? When it would be so out of character for him to not only blackmail but harass and threaten a woman with r*pe?

I can't see the show getting me to even remotely like Benophie if they keep any of this for the show.

Something I didn’t think I’d like this much is how the Bridgerton glowup in season 3 is shown as an active choice by both leading characters. When they show off Anthony’s new look in s2 it’s something passive, like the producers are telling the audience “remember that guy from s1? Well now we’re showing you how hot he can really get!!!”. Colin and Penelope though? They both individually made the choice to try and change themselves physically and mentally to commit to getting hoes. Which power to them I guess!!! I mean, it failed (and they still just ended up being hot losers who would actually jump from the nearest tall building if they had to entertain the idea of being with anyone else except for each other) but hey they tried!!! bless their hearts ❤️❤️❤️

Queen Charlotte Opinion-

I was actually happy that Queen Charlotte used makeup on the actor that plays lord Danbury to make him unattractive. I know they got criticism for it, but I think of it like a safety measure. He plays an unlikeable character, and the Bridgerton audience is VICIOUS and shallow about the physical appearance of characters they don’t like, which is often the actual appearance of the actor. And maybe it’s mostly in the petty ship war side of the fandom, but there’s this “well im only calling the character ugly” attitude but like…that character shares a face with the person who plays them. By using prosthetics/makeup, they create a level of separation between the character and the actor, because the actor is a good looking guy.

Queen Charlotte Opinion-

He’s also not the only dark skinned Black man in the series- Will Mondrich has been hot since season one (RIP shirtless boxing scenes) and Marcus Anderson has been brought on as a hot love interest for Violet. It’s just this one man, and it’s only for a character they knew would attract hate.

What do you think of the Twitter discourse on Penelope's dresses?

very proud of myself for knowing what you're referring to actually.

i think they're being very loud about trying to say the quiet part without saying it. the silhouettes are the same or similar. if people wanted to be honest, the only thing they really have in common is a body type and a smaller chest that accommodates a higher bustline.

they put penelope in those unflattering, boxy dresses for a reason for 2 seasons so to act like it's out of nowhere that they suddenly changed the silhouette of the dresses in s3 when the entirety of bridgerton is beyond historically inaccurate is wild. they lowered the bustline because penelope has a large chest. they kept her looking younger and childish until her season for a purpose. pretending that's how she was always going to/supposed to look is insane.

a leading woman in her character's main arc is always going to come into her own, that's basic storytelling. pretending that penelope was supposed to stand there in a yellow dress that makes it look like she's much rounder and flatter chested than she is feels like a weird way to say media literacy passed you by. unless, of course, you're saying something else. which we know most of them are.

colin's clothes changed as well? he grew into darker colors and more mature silhouettes. we know what they say about him. they do try and hide it under other critiques but they happily talk about his looks like he's not conventionally attractive in a way they hesitate to do with penelope.

what they really mean is, and i'm sure they'll disagree because it's not a good look, is that they think people they don't personally find desirable don't deserve community. especially romantically.

i'm not going to pretend i find all of the actors on the show attractive but you'd have to fight me to get me to name them because it's rude and offers nothing productive on the show, their stories, or the ships they're involved in.

but polin lives rent free in their heads even when we're getting insane leaks for another season so it is what it is i guess.
