AND I THINK I’M GLAD IT ENDED UP BEING US.

“I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour / But heaven knows I’m miserable now. / I was looking for a job, and then I found a job / And heaven knows I’m miserable now.”

starring: Hwang Chihoon / Dylan Hwang, Park Taesong, Fukunaga Haruki, Na Seungsoo, Bang Minwoo;

featuring: mentions of the other LOOPiN members, mentions of former Boy Of The Week trainees (Lee Sangjin, Alexandre Han, Matsushita Kohei / Dallas Matsushita, Kwon Dongwook), mentions of LOOPiN’s former manager, Choi Sangwon;

set in: May 7th, 2021;

word account: 8,935 words;

trigger warnings: they’re all getting awfully drunk trought this whole thing. swearing like, lots of swearing. usual angry drunk people antics. insinuations and two very vapid mention of someone dealing with anemia and depression in the past.

*note(s): 1. English is not my first language, and it might show to a native speaker or someone who’s more fluent then I am. I tried my best to iron this piece out, but if any grammatical errors flew over my head, I hope they don’t ruin the overall experience. With that out of the way, have a good read 😝 🍾

“Soooooo,” Haruki says, elongating the vowel for so long, he’s almost singing it. “We came all the way here to not talk about it. Got it.”

He’s squatting on the floor right in front of Dylan, very close to his feet, picking at something on his own shoe that might be really there, might just be an excuse for him to not make eye contact with anyone. There’s always a point, after he’s had too much liquor, where Haruki can’t make eye contact with anyone without getting horribly misty eyed.

Dylan’s been staring intensely at the very little he can make out of his face from this angle – just the tip of his nose, the illusion of his bottom lip and a bit of his forehead – to find out which is the truth, but Haruki isn’t bearing anything telling and obvious like a frown or a pout, so he really can’t tell no matter how much he squints.

He wishes, not for the first time, that he was an expressive and carefree type of drunk, instead of this provoking and evasive thing. Chihoon’s too dazed to read microexpressions, and if you’re not putting in all your attention and effort into catching all the microscopic shifts a face can make, it’s impossible to even begin to make out what a hammered Haruki is trying to pretend not to feel.

“I mean,” Seungsoo prompts, bouncing on the balls of his feet. The words come off slurring together off his completely red face. If asked, he’d swear he’s not drunk yet, and then he would take a long gulp of the soju bottle he’s been sipping on for the past twenty minutes to prove it, even though it would be written all over his face how much he’d be sick of it – he gets awfully competitive when he drinks with Minwoo and Haruki, he explained to Chihoon before, who’s tolerances are legendary. Dylan privately believes Seungsoo just has a complex about being left behind. “Do you have anything to say? I don’t. Lips sealed.”

“Taesong obviously has,” Minwoo comments, slowly, then seems annoyed at his pace and spits, “TaesongHasSomethingToSayLookAtHisFaceHe’sDraggingIt.”

Chihoon turns his head quickly to the left, feeling the world spin as he sends Minwoo a disapproving look – Don’t put him on the spot. Minwoo frowns right back at him with his lips pursed – Don’t tell me what not to do.

Casting his eyes down again, Chihoon worryingly looks at Taesong. He’s also squatting on the floor, keeping a bigger distance from the circle he, Seungsoo, Haruki and Minwoo formed near the walls, leaning against the cooler they borrowed to keep all the insane amount of alcohol Haruki ordered, enough to probably send half of them into a deadly coma, chilling.

He doesn’t respond to the singling out. In fact, he says nothing and stares unblinkingly ahead for so long, Chihoon thinks he’s fallen asleep with his eyes open, or something – he’s seen similar things happen to Beomseok when he’s exhausted, a couple of times. He knows it’s possible.

When Taesong finally, finally focuses his eyes and opens his mouth, the only thing that does come out of it is a loud hiccup, and then a huffed and barely comprehensible apology. Minwoo groans at him, frustrated, Seungsoo and Haruki huff laughs, amused, and Dylan sighs, tired.

Suddenly so tired, he can feel it in his bones.

Park Taesong, mononyously known as Taesong, is a fictional south korean singer and dancer based in South Korea. He is a member of equally fictitious south korean boy group LOOPiN and its former pre-debut subunit LOOPiN We/Eden, formed by New Wave Music alongside Blockberry Creative, acting as the main vocalist and former leader of the group.

Taesong’s kidness and optimism have always been his most apparent qualities, and they’ve been integrated into his brand as a K-Pop Idol. INSINCs will always describe him as sweet, conforting, responsible and devoted to LOOPiN and its fans, the cardboard copy of the stereotypical ‘parent of the group’. Altought not the best or most stable performer on stage, his clear passion for singing and his dedication to keep the group united and functioning harmonically has owned him a dedicated niche fanbase, as well as the admiration of anyone who’s ever met him on the job.

Na Seungsoo, mononymously known as Seungsoo, is a fictional south korean singer and dancer based in South Korea. He is a member of equally fictitious south korean boy group LOOPiN and its former pre-debut subunit LOOPiN After First, formed by New Wave Music alongside Blockberry Creative, acting as the lead vocalist, lead dancer and producer of the group.

Seungsoo takes his self assigned role of LOOPiN’s funny man and mood maker as seriously as he takes his producing position, although fans have grown so used to seeing him cultivating running gags and jokingly praising his members – to the point of owning the title of ‘Inside iNSYNC’ –, that a percentage often forgets that Seungsoo can be a dedicated, attentious and highly artistic person in more fields then just music, an Idol with his heart on his sleeve. He’s had the most organic popularity growth in the group with little New Wave interference, and it’s now easily one of the most celebrated and market friendly members, having the most uniform ratio between korean and international fans in LOOPiN. His impulsivity, however, is something that shows past the Idol mask despite his years of experience, and could make Seungsoo be mistaken for a rookie; it mostly comes through in the form of oversharing-then-deleting posts online, and it has placed Seungsoo countless times in vulnerable positions where speculation of his personal life and true personality ran rampant – nothing he couldn’t bounce back from by ingeniously charming his audience on and off stage yet.
