You stare down at the two thin pink lines and the blue smiling face that appeared not too long ago on the two sticks you literally just had to pee on. This had to be a bad joke or even a mistake. You recall that the two packages of the pregnancy tests you purchased earlier this morning at your local drugstore stated that those damned sticks had an accuracy of ninety-nine percent, which means that you still had a one percent chance that you weren’t what you thought you were.

“Hey, Y/N.”

You looked up at him only for a second before returning your attention to your book.

Taehyung frowned, nervously playing with his fingers under the table.

It felt worse than that familiar anxiety minutes before a match. A mixture of excitement and fear was making his hands sweat, as if he had never asked a girl for a date before - which he had, a lot.  Maybe Jimin was right and this was a terrible idea: you were not what it was called an ‘easy target’. But he was already there sitting in front of you at the school’s library and there was no turning back now. He cleared his throat and glanced at the chess book you were reading, “How’s your chess club doing?”

Facing him again, you narrowed your eyes in suspicion. “Since when do you care?”

Truth was he couldn’t care less about your stupid chess club - the only interesting thing about it was that you were its president. “You’re right, I don’t care,” he admitted. “But… maybe you can teach me how to play sometime?”

A ‘bang’ interrupted the library’s silence when you closed your book loudly and glared at him, “Ha-Ha. What do you want Kim Taehyung?”

Okay, that was it. After all those days watching you from afar at the school canteen, he had to say it just once. He chose the same words he used with many girls before: “Well… I was wondering if you’d like to go out with me? We can do something you lik-”

“Go out, like a date?”

He gulped under your judging stare, “Yeah, like a date.”

It turned out even more awkward than he imagined. The corner of your mouth lifted up as you stood up from your seat and gathered your books, “Kim Taehyung, the only thing you can date is your hand, a ball, or your team of idiots.”

And just like that, the Bangtan’s School volleyball team captain was rejected for the first time.

You knew better than to fall for someone like him. If he looked like trouble, then he probably was trouble. But you were never one to listen. There was something about him that drew you in. Maybe it was his voice. It was thick like honey and rolled off his tongue like the breeze on a hot summer day. Or maybe it was the rare moments where he let his guard down and flashed you that boxy smile that reminded you that underneath that tough exterior, there was a softness.

You remembered the first time you saw him. You were with your friends sitting outside of the only decent coffee shop on campus. Summer break was looming. The only thing holding you back between a summer without papers and deadlines were exams. And you had a lot of them. The only reason you had even left the library was because you were ambushed. Pairs of hands grabbing you and your things and dragging you out of the frozen solitude that was the library.

But they had their reasons. Momo had just caught the man she swore she thought she would marry (the 4th man she has ever felt this way about) cheating on her. They had been together for almost 6 months, but her’s wasn’t the only bed he was keeping warm. She was in hysterics by the time the barista had finished making your quad soy latte.

“I don’t understand how he could do this to me!” she shrieked between sobs. Her body was shaking violently. Your other best friends, Sana and Mina, were trying to console her. Mina was rubbing circles around her back while Sana was trying to convince Momo that if he was the one than he wouldn’t have done this in the first place.

“What happened this time?” you asked. You didn’t bother to try to hide the disinterest in your voice. You knew Momo and you knew how fast she bounced back. It might have seemed like the end of the world now, but the girl had a rubber heart. She would be back in the ring in no time.

“He cheated! That’s what happened!” her voice cracked as she spoke. “He told me he was going to spend all night in the library. But Mina and I went out last night and he was there. He was kissing some gir-” her words broke into sobs. Sana wrapped her arms around her and pulled Momo into a tight hug.
