Kinda a rough draft of floral placement for my main dress for the shift change challenge. Took the photos so I could sleep on it and look them over before decided to start sewing.

Any Austin stitchers interested, it’s basically an “Everyone has the same pattern” type thing, I can pass on the info. I believe the show is Dec 15th

Name: Aidan

Time and date: 10:57 pm On Thursday, June 11, 2015

Average hours of sleep at night: Oh golly fuck, I guess on weeknights it’s like 5-6 hours, and weekends it’s forever.

Last thing I googled: “Saint with tits Cut off“. It’s Saint Agatha, btb.

Birthday: Third day of every new year

Gender: Queer

Sexual orientation: Queer- More sexually attracted to masculine types, with feminine people especially physical attraction generally follows after emotional attraction

Height: 5′11″

Favourite colour: Heather Blue

One place that makes me happy: There’re a couple of really good antique/ thrift stores in town… Also can really dig on the 2nd story porch of my grandmother’s house in Wimberley, atop a hill so you can see for miles along the Devil’s Backbone, door open and the tv softly chatting away inside, a cool breeze, cold drinks and sitting with family chatting about the middle of last century.

How many blankets I sleep under: 0-1 in warmer months, as many as needed in colder.

Favourite movie: I am not a favorites person. THat being said, really love Fish Called Wanda, The Incredibly Real Adventures of 2 Girls in Love, Fiddler on the Roof, Night of the Hunter

What I am wearing right now: I’m in bed, so Swiss dot shirt I went to dinner in, torn up and patched pj pants, long argyle socks

Last book I read: Currently Reading: On Ugliness, edited by Umberto Ecco. Last read: Free Country, by some guy who walkedbiked across England with a friend asking for everything for free.

Most used phrases/words: Fuck, fuckton, shitton, Ah god, a series of nonverbal noises,

What I last said to a family member: Probably “It’s alright” to my mother, barring what I am currently saying to my fiance

Favourite beverages: Orange Juice, Boylan’s Root Beer, Maine Root Ginger Brew, Tetley Elaichi tea, Twinings Lady Grey

Favourite food: Tell you what, Favorite Flavors in order: Rose, lemon, peppermint, lamb, rosemary

Last movie I watched: God I think it was Modesty Blaise, Unless we count sleeping through Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill! and seeing a total of maybe 5 minutes of this cheese-ass 60s movie about a sargent and his wife touring Spain in a ridiculous looking car they won at a raffle.

Dream vacation: Drive the entirety of Route 66 in a vintage car with working A/C, possibly pulling a trailer, using all my ridiculous travel sets and suitcases, raiding abandoned buildings along the way.

Dream wedding: I cannot say I have given any though over to my wedding except as performance art.

Dream pets: Raccoons! River otters! Another Whippet! Some mutt cat that has been left alone at the shelter cause she has FIV and no one wants to deal with her but really she’s a chill sweetheart.

Dream job: Surviving off of art and sewing

I would tag folks as per instructed, but despite having some folks I’d love to get to know better, I have never gotten over my internet shyness enough to actually feel like I could tag anyone. Feel free to respond if you so feel.

Tag 10 people you want to get to know better

My work explores the contradictions between the impulse to destroy and the compulsion to mend. I juxtapose rapid acts of destruction, such as spilling and cutting, with painstaking, restorative labor. Embroideries are hand-stitched over stains and rips, contrasting the accidental with the meticulous, constructing narrative from randomness and mistake. The initial marks are found on linens or are created by cutting and staining canvas. The work scrambles expressions of aggression with masochistic patience and sublimation and plays with the feminine through the graphic form of the “stain” and the adding of peek-a-boo, lace inlays to repair cut holes that expose the hidden space behind the canvas. Shadows on the wall add a sculptural dimension and some pieces are hung off the wall to reveal the secret and unintended marks of the verso. Thanks Rhumboogie

Stuff I sewed this weekend.

- Handbag with a too small opening I made from an embroidered scrap of dress a sewing friend gave me

-almost sheer linen skirt from a matching pair of embroidered/appliqued tablecloths and napkins

-Skirt cut from a long dress with embroidered doily-thing cut in half and added as pockets
