I'm sure I'm not the first person to think this, but I think the biggest hint that CatNap and DogDay are close is the state we find DogDay in. CatNap seems to have killed off the rest of the Smiling Critters, but it feels like DogDay was set aside, almost *preserved*, like...he says that CatNap did that to him because he didn't want to follow the Prototype, and I know CatNap likes toying with his prey, but he's not *toying* with DogDay. He's setting him aside for later. I'm sure there's a million possible interpretations of what he did to DogDay, but with how messed up and broken CatNap is, it seems to me like he felt this was the only way to keep DogDay close (he's very near to where CatNap's den is). Maybe he felt like they were drifting apart, but rather than just killing him like he seems to have done with the others, he doesn't want to let him go...in the most messed up way possible.
