I’m sorry if you’re over talking about the whole gale situation with larian but I just want to say that I’m so glad people are defending his character. I relate to gale on certain personal aspects and I really find it disheartening that the writers seem to dismiss his character and the impact he has on people. I wish that maybe the writers looked at Gale the way you and others do, he’s such important representation to those who have escaped toxic relationships and those who have autism. This may be super ridiculous but I really just wanted to extend my gratitude for the defense of his character coming from someone who deeply relates to Gale.
never feel bad about venting in my inbox about this and while i'm trying to not let it ruin the game entirely for me because i still enjoy the characters for themselves, the ocs i've seen and my own ocs too much, i will also never be over the behaviour they've shown in this interview and the message they sent here, intentional or not.
i hear you and i completely feel you on every front.
you're not the first to message me about this. i've answered a few, some i haven't gotten around to yet, and it just makes me feel sad, disheartened and frustrated for everyone.
to see a character and his struggles that a lot of people identify with for a multitude of different personal reasons (be it chronic illness and pain flare-ups, be it depression or suicidal ideation, be it self-isolation from loved ones, be it autism or autistic traits, be it lifted up and gifted in childhood and feeling burnt out or discarded later on, etc.) be entirely dismissed and reduced to being "annoying", him reaching out for help being ridiculed to "eating your most priced possessions" and having to "give back" to "the world".
it would have cost them nothing, absolutely nothing, to talk about his character and his struggles with an ounce of empathy. with an ounce of respect. the same empathy and respect they've extended to all other of their creations and their underlying themes in this interview. keeping in mind that these people are industry veterans and professionals, too.
so thank you for your message and again, never feel bad about wanting to be heard.

To be entirely fair to Larian, the need to provide epilogues for every character's story makes it difficult to focus on any individual one for any length of time. Astarion's in particular is followed by Karlach's, which for obvious reasons isn't something that can be delayed while the group finds Astarion and makes sure he's okay. However it's still an absolutely terrible ending.
It's like... there being this scene of Astarion's tadpole-induced immunity to sunlight wearing off makes sense and it would be just as big a misstep as having his last appearance in a run where he's not romanced be this to skip over it in his spawn ending. But handling it this way is also a misstep. Similarly to Karlach's, it's such a horrible ending for a member of your party? Especially with Astarion having been such a massive fan favourite basically from day one, it just feels kind of mean to have this be his good ending if you haven't romanced him. Minsc saying that he and Boo will bring Astarion a sunflower is sweet, but I'm aware that the rest of the party members' responses are... less sweet.
Actually, one good solution might be to have essentially two epilogue scenes? ...Three counting the last conversation with your lover. But you've got Karlach and Lae'zel's endings (and Wyll's if he goes with Karlach) which would have to happen pretty immediately due to the circumstances of those endings, and then the others could happen a bit later. Like... just spitballing here, but maybe with everyone else you go to the Elfsong like Astarion suggests and that's where you talk to them all. With Astarion in particular, that way instead of him having to sprint off in a mad scramble to find shade before he dies he could step out onto the street to look at the destruction, realize the sun's hurting him again, and just step back inside. It would keep that moment of him realizing his time in the sun's up without having the last thing you see of him if you haven't romanced him being him having to run for his life while the party just stands there and watches.

I know I don't shut up about this but frankly not enough people are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people work even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.
It's no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their communities when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second job, a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it's nearly impossible.
We literally aren't meant to live like this and I'll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don't want to throw a brick through a billionaire's window every time they think of it.
