Why are the same old arguments about ATLA/TLOK being rehashed again, we have been saying for years that these shows (along with Firefly, another shitbag show people claim is ‘great rep’) are racist garbage and back when I thought I actually liked both shows, I personally had to suffer through the both RPCs whitewashing and calling Asian fans ‘whiny SJW bitches’ when we realized that wasn’t good representation and that the creators were still contributing to racist depictions of Asians in media.

I am so tired of this shit- Nobody is saying you CAN’T enjoy or CAN’T be inspired by personalities from those shows, but people are allowed to think critically about the media they consume. Continuing to only listen to AsAm voices who continue to blindly love the show while calling other Asians “Karens” and “fake woke” for being upset with how their cultures are mangled by Bryan and Mike is bullshit. Calling Asians a name for entitled WASPs is also anti-Asian, so maybe stop acting like you’re defending such a ‘respectful and well researched’ show when you’re actively participating in Western Orientalism and trying to shut down Asian voices.

I can't believe that people are using the argument that horikoshi is not 'that' sexist/creepy towards minors bc some anime do worse.......... like bro what the fuck are you talking about. Sure some anime are worse but like???? A lot are better???? To my knowledge nobody in D.Gray-Man, let alone two minors, fight naked on the regular. FMA has never given its underage female characters (or any female characters, including the actual personification of lust) a costume with a slit from her breasts to her belly. ONE has never shown a shot of Tome or Mezato completely naked (including having their crotch in full view) except for a thin strip across their nipples like Horikoshi has with Mina.

The norm in shounen may be gross sexism and sexualization, but that doesn't mean you can't write a successful shounen without (or with less of) it. Horikoshi made the conscious choice to create Momo's power in a way that would require skin exposure and designed her costume to be sexy (openly stating that the slit keeps getting larger due to 'inclinations of the author'). He made the conscious choice to have Toga's powers include a clothes shift while still requiring her to get naked. He made the conscious choice to give Mirio a costume made from his DNA while letting Hagakure fight naked. He made the conscious choice to introduce Hatsume via a boob shot. He made the conscious choice to make almost all of the girls' costumes skin tight. He made the conscious choice to include Mineta, whose only role is to sexually harrass the girls, while openly stating he likes him because Horikoshi 'is a pervert himself'. He made the conscious choice to have the only female UA teacher be the 'R-Rated Hero'. I could go on, but you get the point.

Horikoshi is a deeply sexist man who has made the conscious choice to sexualize all of his female characters because he's a self-described pervert. He thinks Momo, an underage girl, is sexy, and deliberately designed her that way. That is not a trapping of the genre, that's an adult man proudly perving over a child.

If this makes you uncomfortable, good. Now stop making excuses for it.
