So I was reminiscing about my life and came to the conclusion that you can have both good and bad memories about a person but still recognize who is good and who is bad.

Like with my Ma, who is firmly in the good person category.

On one hand: Gave up everything for me and my brothers, love and cared for me after all of my health issues, is helping me after my mental breakdown, encourages me to do what I love.

On the other: Was a heavy smoker, had anger issues stemming from being such a young mother, did not always hang around the best people, discouraged my interest in drawing horror and surreal art at a young age which kinda killed my excitement from drawing.

And then you have people like my Dad(not my biological one), who is a bad person

On one hand: Encouraged my love of horror and the surreal, would take me riding on go-karts and ATVs, taught me how to fish, explained morality to me when I was young.

On the other: Was a drug addict, was verbally and emotionally abusive whenever he was high, sold a lot of my childhood things to fuel his obsession with automotive engineering, threatened violence to anybody when he was in a bad mood.

What I'm trying to get across, is that it's okay to remember a bad person fondly sometimes, but you have to recognize that it's bad for you to be around them.

Vice versa for remembering the bad moments with someone that's good, nobody is perfect and if they were it'd be uncanny and uncomfortable.

The key point is to tell the difference between the two

1.) Padak

Really this short film is awesome, but also brutal. The fish in captivity really have that prisoner dynamic going on, with no one dimensional or “heroic” protagonist characters making the story feel grounded. The voice-work is excellent, as is the animating, the fish actually move/act like fish, even going so far as to depict the more graphic behaviors fish exhibit in these conditions,(subverting any vegan tropes). But more importantly, the musical sequences are just spectacle all on their own with radical shifts in animation. The culture/actions of the people and the restaurant is on point, not being evil but are completely apathetic towards the cruelty they inflict on the fish. However, topics regarding animal ethics are largely put to the side and these scenes are really just used to drive home the movie’s actual core message. I won’t spoil it, but it’s actually very profound/unique and speaks towards the universal aspects of life and what it means to live.

Watch this film, it’s really great.
