deltarune reset theory

(@determinators also has reblogs relating to this. they bring up this theory + images in support, so go check that out here. i'll also be referring to something brought up in other parts of that post.)

this theory proposes that the events of deltarune happen after a reset or true reset, probably because the first "run" failed in some way. quite a bit of this is speculation, but i find it really interesting. here are my general points and thoughts:

i first started thinking about this in relation to ralsei's legend from ch1. according to that, the earth is to "draw her final breath", and ONLY THEN do the three heroes appear. the heroes are apparently already here without the world ending, right? two ways to go about this: either they aren't the heroes, which is definitely possible, or the world DID end in the first run, but it was reset to where we are now, fulfilling that requirement.

in the linked post above, there's that unused line from the intro where susie yells at kris to wake up. as determinators said, maybe susie and kris were friends in the first run, and it looks like they may have gotten involved in the plot then... only for kris to probably die, leading to the world being doomed.

this may be the goal of whatever plan or experiment gaster is running right now. he doesn't seem to want the red soul to fail or for the world to be consumed by darkness.

this is speculation, but i wonder if ralsei even existed in the first run, with his presence in the current run meant to help prevent the end of the world. or maybe he existed in a different way in the first run; i'm a big fan of the theory that ralsei is a titan, so if we go with that, maybe he was a purely antagonistic/villainous titan? something could have changed since then.

when trying to visit spamton's shop with noelle, she says something about it being "nostalgic". my main idea for this is that it reminds her of the bunker, which she may have visited with kris in the past. but what if it might also relate to a sense of familiarity towards the first run? even if everything was tru reset, noelle does seemingly have a place in the lore and also probably high amounts of determination, so she may have remembered or at least felt something. (credits to @dogcasino for bringing this up)

finally, the red soul. why is it here in the first place? well, the last red soul we saw had the ability to reset/true reset. gaster may have brought in this soul, whatever or whoever it is, for the purpose of performing the deltarune reset. i also think that gaster is responsible for the red soul possessing/controlling kris, which may have been his attempt at making this go right this time... of course, with questionable results.
