Rand is such an interesting character and I love reading his arcs in wheel of time. Especially at the beginning when Rand is struggling against destiny and people’s expectations and definitions of who he is meant to be.
One of his biggest conflicts comes from people trying to fit him into a neat little box.

More Posts from Champion-of-thedas
okay i’m really curious about this all of a sudden for no discernible reason so please reblog this post and say in the tags:
1) whether or not you need glasses, and if so whether you’re near-sighted (myopia) or far-sighted (hyperopia)
2) whether or not you have an astigmatism, or any other similar condition that affects the eyeball itself
3) whether or not you have any conditions that affect the eye muscles, like nystagmus
and finally, the subject of my curiosity:
4) whether or not you can unfocus your eyes at will. i don’t mean crossing your eyes by trying to look at the bridge of your own nose/your glasses/etc., i mean intentionally affecting a non-responsive stare where your eyes stop tracking things and stare straight ahead/wherever their most neutral direction is
Asexual labels explained using cereal
You are in a kitchen, opening a pantry door. It contains every brand of cereal in existence.
Libido- How hungry you are
Sexual Attraction- How appealing each cereal is to you
Sex-Repulsed- The mere act of eating cereal disturbs you. You flee the kitchen to watch Netflix instead.
Sex-Indifferent- Someone brings you a bowl of cereal. Even though you don’t crave cereal, you decide to eat some anyway. Maybe because you want the person to feel happy you’re eating something they provided you. Maybe you’re just that hungry. Regardless, you’re fine with eating it since it’s already there. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t care either.
Sex-favorable- Though you don’t particularly crave cereal, the act of eating cereal is enjoyable. So enjoyable, you go through the trouble of picking a brand to eat.
Asexual with low/no libido- You are rarely hungry, and none of the cereal appeals to you.
Asexual with average/high libido- You are often hungry, but none of the cereal appeals to you.
Aegosexual- Eating cereal sounds fun in theory but not in practice. You certainly have no interest in eating cereal yourself. You’d rather fantasize about other people eating cereal, thankyouverymuch.
Gray Asexual- You only like Lucky Charms and Apple Jacks. And maybe Fruity Pebbles but you’re not quite sure.
Demisexual- You see a box of Trix. You are familiar with the rabbit on the box, due to the commercials you’ve seen. You always sympathized with the rabbit for never getting any Trix. There are things in life you’ve wanted but have never gotten. You feel a bond with the rabbit. Suddenly that box of Trix looks tasty.
Fraysexual- You see a box of Cocoa Puffs. You have never heard of Cocoa Puffs in your life. But something about it is oh-so-appealing. You pour yourself a bowl. As you start to eat, you catch a commercial for Cocoa Puffs on TV. You now know what the mascot on the box is like. You lose interest in Cocoa Puffs for reasons you cannot explain.
Lithosexual- You notice a box of Fruit Loops. You feel an urge to eat it. Toucan Sam comes to life and asks you to eat them. This makes you uncomfortable, so you leave to watch Netflix with the sex-repulsed ace.
Reciprosexual- You have no interest in any of the cereal. Not even that box of Frosted Flakes. But Tony the Tiger shows up wanting you to eat the Frosted Flakes. Now that he wants you to eat Frosted Flakes, you want to eat Frosted Flakes.
Cupiosexual- You want to eat cereal, but none of the cereal looks appealing. Maybe if you grab that box of Corn Flakes, it’ll become appealing to you later? It’s happened to other people. You consider grabbing that box of Corn Flakes, just in case.
Orchidsexual- Some of the cereal looks appealing, but you have no interest in eating cereal.
Aceflux- None of the cereal looks good, so you close the pantry. A few days later, you decide to open the pantry again. Now, some of those brands look appetizing. You check the pantry again the next day. None of the cereal looks good anymore.
Quoisexual- You have no idea if you like a cereal because you want to eat it, or if you just think the box art is pretty. Does liking the box art count as wanting to eat it? Do you just like the mascot? Does liking the mascot count as wanting to eat the cereal? After reading everything I’ve written, you are still confused. You bang your head against the pantry in frustration.
SPOILERS FOR TV SHOW AND FOR THE BOOKS
Okay okay
So while I’m working on eating alone, Moiraine’s weird energy has taken me along for the ride. Forever ago I made a post about writing a Wheel of Time time travel fic, but since then the Wheel of Time tv show finished its season and I’m at a crossroads.
I decided that I wanted Moiraine to be the person to raise Rand in this fictional scenario, but I’m not sure how I want to go about this, because I need to decide on what flavor of Moiraine I want. So, my options are as follow (spoilers) and I am taking suggestions because all of these sound exceptionally fun. I also am debating about whether she goes alone or with others and who with
Fires of Heaven Moiraine that just tackled Lanfear and thinks she’s dead/dying
Shadows Raising/Fires of Heaven Moiraine that is so fucking lost about what to do next
TV finale Moiraine that suddenly finds herself in a place of raising the boy that she just figured out was the dragon reborn and can no longer channel
New Spring Moiraine as a newly minted Aes Sedai that suddenly has to raise prophecy child
EDIT: Note that there were two more on here, but I decided that they were less interesting. Pre and Post Last Battle Moiraine, while somewhat fun, makes her journey less interesting than the other four.
Sorry for being so absent the last couple of days, especially when I was so geared up to do that book club. Currently in the middle of finals and am working on catching up. The only reason I’m posting this is because I got too excited and needed to put it somewhere.
So... I watched the episode last night with a friend and we immediately got on the topic of Warder/Aes Sedai bonds (naturally) and how that affects people, especially since one of my favorite relationships in the series is Moiraine and Lan. We generally moved on to soul bonds of different kinds throughout the series and I started raving about that relationship and Moridin and Rand’s (another of my favorite relationships) and she looked me dead in the eyes and said, “This makes so much sense; you’re on your platonic soulmate thing.”
I felt so called out. Let’s get one thing straight: I have a very well-known (among my friends) hatred for the romantic soulmate trope as it is usually done. I have so many issues with it as a concept in general. I love when people do interesting things with it (which would take me all day to discuss). What I do enjoy is antagonistic and platonic soulmates (especially when the latter results in found family tropes, because I am weak).
I have this whole thing about romantic relationships (as a whole, not individually) not being the pinnacle of human connection and treating nonromantic relationships as equally important and sometimes more important than romantic relationships which confuses my friends because I’ve definitely had a couple of friends ask my aromantic ass if I like them romantically, not understanding that I tend to put all of myself into friendships for personal history reasons.
Which brings me back to why I like wheel of time so much as a series. The friendships and friendship dynamics are SO GOOD. The romantic relationships can tend to be poorly written, but I’d be hardpressed to find a friendship that I have trouble with. They also don’t tend to be typical or delineate along gender lines as so many series like this would do. I mean: Moiraine and Lan, Elayne and Mat, Rand and Nyneave, and Perrin and Egwene are a few of the ones I love pointing to. I’m just happy to see that the show is doing a good job of it to and even if the last episode broke me emotionally, the connection between Stepin and Verene was just so beautiful. “She gave me the honor of becoming her friend,” giving so much credence to “I had to become worthy of her” and it didn’t come across as some pining to me but seemed just as intimate and important all the same (plus their earlier interactions were just *chef’s kiss*).
The episode did tear me apart though, but I was happy about it.
So I was a little conflicted about posting this because I want so badly for more people to engage with wheel of time, but here goes.
For people like myself who deal with depression and suicidal ideation, please be careful when watching the later seasons of the show (because it will continue after episode 5) and/or reading the books. I know I have ignored warnings like this in the past and ended up regretting it. I’m not saying don’t engage, but one of the main characters deals heavily with suicidal ideation and self-loathing to the point where it’s a huge part of their overall character and arc. Not gonna say who or how or why, but I’m going to recommend this now because we’ve already had it and for if/when you choose to read the books, you check on websites meant to go over that such as doesthedogdie.com. I was just doing my book reread and got to the first few chapters of book three (don’t worry I’m doing another reread as I go for the book club; I just got them on audiobook and got a little ahead of myself), and could only think, “wow, I forgot it started this early.”
Just… be safe. Think about your headspace.
