Chapter 2
An attempt was made
▪︎▪︎▪︎ Samantha's POV ▪︎▪︎▪︎
[Writer's note: This chapter was so fun to write! Writing a chapter from the perspective of a bling person has been such a fun challenge! I will definitely be writing chapters from Samantha's perspective again.]
Samantha quickly packs up some spare clothes, some toiletries, a map and some other things. She changes out of her maid attire and puts on a simple T-Shirt and some shorts. She rushes to the kitchen and hastily makes two sandwiches for the trip. After she's done packing, she goes to the princess's room.
"Are you done packing princess?", Samantha asks.
"Yup!", she answers, "Let's get going!"
Samantha suppresses a smile after hearing the young girl's enthusiasm. The princess has always been an adventurous girl. She's never afraid of trying new things. Which is why this field trip didn't come as much of a surprise. Though it can't be a coincidence that she planned this trip to the Light kingdom right after Samantha tried begging Stephanie to take over for her for the fifth time this week. Samantha decides to just shrug it off. She won't accuse the princess of snooping into her business. She's grateful to have this opportunity to begin with.
——————————————————
The two of them make their way towards the Light kingdom in silence for some time. The fresh air is filled with the sound of birds chirping and leaves rustling. There's a bit of a breeze and the sound of people talking slowly fades away the closer they get to the border. After some time, the silence is broken by the princess.
"Are we lost?", she asks.
"Of course we are. You let the blind person have the map", Samantha says calmly.
"Well don't blame me for that! You're the one that grabbed it out of my hands!", the princess says in self defense.
"You were going to tear it up while making a paper plane out of it", Samantha explains matter of fact-ly.
"Don't bring my paper planes into this! Besides, I got bored", the princess says innocently.
Samantha sighs. Why did I agree to this again? she thinks to herself. Suddenly, she senses a drop of water fall on her, followed by many others.
"Great. Now it's raining", the princess says in annoyance.
"I know. I may be blind, but I can still tell when it's raining", Samantha comments calmly.
"Go find us some shelter", she instructs the princess as she carefully places the map back into her bag.
After zipping up her bag, she feels a small hand grab her arm.
"I'm not leaving you alone. I'll guide you", the princess says firmly, leaving no room for discussion.
Samatha lets herself get dragged by the princess. The two of them walk in silence for a while, until they promptly come to a stop.
"There's a cave on the other side of this river. There's no bridge nearby, but it looks narrow enough for us to jump to the other side... Will you manage?", the princess explains hesitantly.
"Go ahead. Let me know when you've reached the other side", Samantha instructs.
"Alright", the princess responds with no further questions.
Samantha soon hearsa thud as the princess lands on the other side of the river.
"Your turn", the princess says while facing Samantha. Her voice is filled with concern. Based on how far away the princess's voice it, Samantha makes a quick estimate of how wide the river is and proceeds to jump.
Samatha barely made it on the other side and is about to lose her balance when she feels a small hand hold her arm tightly.
"Samatha!", the princess yells in distress. Just then, Samatha feels another hand grabbing her ankle. This hand is larger than the one trying to keep her from falling. It's ice cold and wet. Before Samantha can form another thought, both her and the princess are quickly overpowered and fall into the river. Samantha grabs the princess's hand and immediately tries to make it back to where she thinks the surface is, when she's suddenly hit on the head by something ice cold. It doesn't take long before she loses her consciousness.
——————————————————
Samatha opens her eyes slowly. Not that it makes a difference. She groans as she rubs the back of her head where she had been hit. She then notices that she seems to be floating. There's a muffled sound of water.
"Are we dead yet?", she asks to no one in particular.
"Don't worry Samantha, we're still alive", the princess's voice answers her.
"I wasn't worried. I was told that I'd get my eyesight back in heaven", Samantha comments.
"Anyway... You have ten seconds to explain what you are doing in my kingdom", another voice commands.
So, we're in someone else's kingdom. Considering that we were pulled into the water before being knocked out, we must be in the Water kingdom, ruled by queen Marie.
"I'm so sorry! We were going to the Light kingdom to warn the king!", the princess explains frantically.
Samantha raises an eyebrow curiously. Warn the king? I knew that this couldn't be a coincidence!
"We just got a little lost, that's all", the princess continues explaining.
"Warn the king? About what?", the queen asks curiously.
"Princess Annie?", Samantha asks expectantly.
"I know... I'm sorry for eavesdropping on your conversation", the princess says sheepishly.
"I should have known that you wouldn't let it slide. The past is in the past, we have more important things to worry about. Queen Marie, we are terribly sorry for trespassing in your kingdom. As the princess already. Said, we just got lost. I assure you that I will never trust her with the map again", Samantha explains in her usual calm voice.
"Hey!", the princess yells in offense, "At least I helped you get this far!"
"Since we are in the Water kingdom, we have been going in the opposite direction of the Light kingdom", Samantha explains.
"Oh...my bad", the princess says meekly.
"How are you so sure that the king is in danger?", the queen asks.
"You tend to have above average hearing when you're blind", Samantha explains nonchalantly.
"Who is after the king anyway?", the princess asks curiously.
"I'm not sure. It's not like I could see who was talking about the plans to go after the king. I would definitely be able to recognize them if I were to hear their voice again", Samantha explains.
"Alright. You're free to go", the queen says.
"Thanks!", the princess says cheerfully.
"Your majesty?", a male voice appears out of nowhere.
"Yes?", the queen says curiously.
"I think that someone is- ", the male voice is abruptly interrupted by seemingly nothing. Some grunts of effort are suddenly heard. After some time it stops.
"Sorry about that your majesty", the same male voice says. The voice sounds distorted. While the original male voice is dominant, there is another underlying voice.
"And sorry about this as well", the same distorted voice says while the sound of multiple bubbles being produced fills the air. Or rather the water. A splash sound can be heard shortly after.
"Impressive", the distorted voice comments in a playful way.
"Who are you and what have you done to my guard?", the queen demands.
"Who am I? Stick around to find out", the voice says playfully.
"Alright", the queen accepts the challenge. As she says so, Samantha suddenly feels herself being moved upwards. Not to long afterward, she finds herself on solid ground.
"What's going on?", Samatha asks, assuming that the princess is somewhere nearby.
"I-I...I don't know... I have to save the queen", the princess says. Her voice shakes as she speaks. She's clearly distressed, but also determined. Before Samantha can say anything, she hears the princess grunting in effort, clearly trying to use her powers. Samantha gets closer to the princess, knowing that she'll probably end up passing out from using her powers.
"You...you saved me...", the queen's voice suddenly says.
"O-Of course I did", the princess says weakly, though still with the same kindness and compassion that she has towards others.
"I-I couldn't just let him k-kill you...", the princess says, sounding weaker by the second.
"Let me help you...with...your.... injuries...", the princess tries to offer before she inevitably passes out. Samantha catches her before she hits the ground.
"I-Is she okay?", the queen asks, her anxiousness piercing through her usually calm tone.
"She'll be fine. She just doesn't have much control over her powers and ends up passing out whenever she uses them", Samantha explains calmly.
"Oh...", the queen says, her voice now sounding calmer.
"Come on, we should find somewhere to rest until the princess wakes up. She mentioned something about injuries before passing out. I don't have healing powers, but I should have some bandages in my bag", Samantha decides while gently carrying the princess.
"Sound good to me", the queen says.
"Uhh...how can I lead you?", the queen asks.
"There aren't any people around here, so I'll be able to hear your footsteps", Samantha explains.
"Oh. Okay", the queen says awkwardly.
Samantha stays still until she hears the queen get up. She then follows her to who knows where.
——————————————————
"This looks like a good place as any to rest", the queen says as they come to a stop. Samantha gently puts down the princess. She takes off her bag and fishes out the bandages.
"I should have brought a first aid kit with me", she comments out loud.
"It's fine. Some bandages are all I need", the queen saus quietly.
"Doesn't sound like it", Samantha remarks.
"Well, you're just going to have to take my word for it", the queen declares.
Samantha reaches out her hand containing the bandages to the direction of the queen's voice. She feels the queen's fingertips as she takes the bandages.
"We should set up a campfire", Samantha suggests.
"Yeah", the queens .
"In what direction are the trees?", Samantha asks.
"That way", the queen answers.
Samantha raises an eyebrow. She decides to wait until the queen notices herself.
"Oh! Uhh... to your right", the queen says full of embarrassment, "I-I'm not sorry. I wasn't paying attention."
"It's fine. You've only known me for a few minutes", Samantha replies, trying her best to hide her amusement.
Samantha makes her way to where the queen said the trees would be. It takes a long time, but eventually she finds enough wood to make a campfire.
She returns to the direction she came from.
"Your majesty?", she asks after nearing the direction she remembers leaving the queen and the princess.
"Over here", the queen's voice replies.
Samantha moves towards the direction of the queen's voice. She kneels down and starts setting up the sticks. She then finds her bad and takes out the packet of matches. Not even a minute later, she can feel the warmth of the campfire burning. Being satisfied with the result, she makes her way back to the princess. She gently lifts up the princess's head and let her rest of her lap. She waits patiently for the princess to wake up.
"The guard...when he spoke it was almost as if he had two voices...", the queen notes.
Samantha raises her eyebrow, slightly confused by the sudden realization from the queen.
"Yes. Although the voice underlying your guard's own was suppressed, I still recognize it as the same voice of the one I overheard talking about the plan", Samantha calmly explains.
"Why didn't you say anything about it until now?", the queen asks. Her suppressed rage can be heared in her voice.
"I'm sorry. I had more important things in my mind", Samantha simply replies.
The queen scoffs lightly but leaves it at that.
Silence fills the air. The only thing keeping it from being completely silent is the crackling sound of the campfire. After another few minutes, Samantha hears someone groaning. Soon after, the head laying on her lap gets up.
"How are you feeling princess?", Samantha asks.
"Fine", the princess answers while groaning from pain, "Wh-Where's the Water queen?"
"I'm right behind you", the queen says calmly.
"Hi!", the princess exclaims. Her voice has traveled in the queen's direction in an instance.
I hope she didn't use her ability to teleport. She just woke up from passing out due to using her powers. She souldn't be teleporting around right now.
"I don't think that I've introduced myself yet", the princess continues talking.
"My name is Annie and I'm the princess of the Nature kingdom!", the princess introduces herself enthusiastically, "I'm 18 and I love painting!"
"My name is Marie and I'm the queen of th Water kingdom", the queen follows suit, but in a much calmer way, "I'm 18 and I enjoy reading books."
"Huh? You're 18? Howcome you've been a queen for so long?", the princess asks curiously, "Also, how do you know what books are? Don't they get wet underwater?"
Samantha cringes at the princess's question. How does not know about what happened with the previous rulers of the Water kingdom? And how does she not know that part of the water kingdom is on the icy land?
"That doesn't matter. If the guard that was attacking me is free from the mind he was under, then he probably thinks that I've been abducted. The royal advisors will have no problem taking over in the meantime and keeping things in order for my kingdom. Since it seems that this misterious person is targeting those who are currently on the throne, I think it's best that I join you on your mission to warn the king. We must find out who's behind all of this and put an end to it, before our kingdoms fall apart. Your maid said that she recognized the voice of whoever was mind controlling my guard. It would be best if we team up and work together to find this person, considering that I couldn't defeat him on my own, and you...don't seem to have control over your powers", the queen explains.
"Considering the capabilities of this person that we are aware of thus far, we'll need even more help", Samantha remarks.
"Where are we going to get more help from?", the princess asks.
"There's someone in particular that I have in mind...", Samantha says in a bit of an ominous way.
"Come on. If we start going now, we should be able to arrive before the sun sets", Samantha says.
"Aww. More walking?", the princess whines.
"Where are we headed?", the queen asks.
"The Fire kingdom", Samantha answers.
Octonauts - A new Generation
Chapter 6
Why so sad?
Koshi’s pov
Koshi had heared Stella sobbing. The reason she didn’t do anything about it, is because she didn’t know what she should do about it. She often finds her sister silently sobbing, but in that case, she knows exactly why. Her close attention to detail has helped her be able to identify whether Dashi’s crying because of their mother, because she got a bad grade, because her boyfriends broke up with her, because she was being bullied or because their father has yelled at her yet again for wanting to become a photographer instead of getting a “real” job. Koshi always knows what to say in any of those cases, but right now, she has no idea how to comfort the pup. So she decides to pretend that she’s still sleeping.
It’s been about five minutes, and Stella is still sobbing. The longer she does so, the more guilty Koshi feels for not doing anything about it. Stella’s quiet, soft, gentle sobs cut through Koshi, almost making her wince in pain. After another two minutes pass, Koshi finally decides to do something about it. Just as she slowly rises from her bed, the door swiftly slides open. The silhouette of a penguin lets Koshi know that it’s Peso. As if a telepathic message had been sent to the both of them, they slowly walk to the pup’s bed together. They both sit on either side of Stella’s bed as the startled pup started making rash movements. Koshi turns on Stella’s bedside lamp on the dimmest setting before facing her. Stella had just hidden something behind her pillow when Koshi had looked in her direction.
“Sorry for waking you up”, Stella mumbles.
“Don’t worry about it. You didn’t wake me up at all. I was already awake”, Koshi reassures.
“Really? What are you doing awake at this hour?”, Stella asks.
From experience with trying to comfort her sister, Koshi could tell that Stella is trying to change the subject as quickly as possible.
“Not so fast. You first”, she therefore says.
“What are you talking about?”, Stella replies calmly.
“Why were you crying?”, Peso asks as gently as possible.
“Why were you crying?”, Stella redirects the question.
“Wh-What?”, Peso responds anxiously while trying his best to appear confused.
Now that Stella has mentioned it, Peso’s eyes do indeed look a little puffy, as if he had been crying not too long ago. Unlike Stella though, Peso is an adult with the right to keep things to himself, so Koshi lets him off the hook and continues interrogating Stella.
“Stop changing the subject and answer our questions”, she firmly says.
Stella looks her deep into her eyes. They stare at each other in silence for a while, waiting for one of them to break the silence.
“Are you feeling homesick?”, Peso asks.
After staring into Koshi’s hazel brown eyes a little longer, she turns to face the penguin.
“No”, she says in a way that left no place for discussion.
“Then what is making you cry?”, Peso asks calmly, with a hint of concern.
While Peso tries and fails to get answers, Koshi uses the opportunity to find out what Stella hid underneath her pillow. She cautiously approaches the pillow and slowly puts her paw through the gap between the pillow and the head of the bed. Shortly after, she finally finds what she’s looking for and carefully pulls it out. Her curiosity and desperation to find out what it is causes her to start getting careless. She watches from the corner of her eye how Stella’s ears twitch, before the pup quickly grabs Koshi’s arm.
“Leave it be. The two of you should go get some rest, I’ve kept you awake for long enough”, Stella says in a calm but threatening tone, tightening her grip as Koshi tries to pull out her paw.
“I’m not leaving until you tell me what’s wrong”, Peso says sternly.
“Well I won’t tell you anything unless you tell me what’s wrong”, Stella replies.
The two stare each other down as Koshi continues her attempt to get her paw freed.
“Stella, I have already let go of whatever it is that you’re hiding”, Koshi explains, while trying to figure out the texture of the object she’s holding.
Stella’s eyes shoot in her direction, bringing judgment along with them. Her grip slowly loosens itself, just enough for Koshi to remove her paw, but not enough for the object she’s holding to come out with her paw. Koshi slowly removes her paw, before yanking it out into the open, along with the object. Stella barely manages to muffle her surprised yell as what she had tried to hide has now been brought out into the open. Koshi stands up and takes a few steps back, in order to prevent any attempts of Stella trying to get the object back. She uses the light of her Octo-watch screen to examine the object. It was a stuffed toy that looks like an artic fox. The fox was wearing a sky blue T-shirt, similar to the one Stella was wearing before, and a pale yellow jacket. He had some shorts and sneakers on. His bright smile showed confidence and comfort. The sewing on the teddy was terribly done, clearly handmade. Perhaps it was given to Stella as a gift. Perhaps the reason why she was holding it while crying is because she misses the person that made it for her. She said that she’s not homesick, so it could be a possibility that Koshi’s theory is correct.
“You miss the creature that made this for you, don’t you?”, Koshi asks in a low voice.
Stella just stares at her, still shocked by what had happened.
“The mission I went on reminded me of something that happened in the past. Your turn”, Peso quickly said. He sounded annoyed. In fact, it almost sounded like he was hissing. He seems to have realized that, because after taking a deep breath, he apologizes for his tone.
“I miss my father, that’s all”, Stella basically whispers.
“Did something happen to him?”, Koshi asks. She was under the impression that the fox lives with her uncle, so it could be that it’s because something happened to her father.
Stella winces unwillingly. She avoids all eye contact with the penguin and the dog.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure that he’ll be fine”, Peso says smoothly.
Stella chocks up on those words and stars silently sobbing again. It looked like she wanted to say something, but couldn’t bring herself to say it.
Koshi raises her head at the same time as Peso. The two of them look each other in the eyes, worry and concern clearly showcasing on both of their faces. It’s clear that Stella’s father is in bad condition. What if…, Koshi thinks to herself, What if his condition is so bad that he could… And Stella wouldn’t be close enough to be there…for his final days…
Koshi and Peso must have been thinking the same thing at the same pace, because they both lean in to hug Stella at the same time. Stella flinches at the sudden gesture of comfort by the two, but quickly calms down and welcomes it. Her sobs get slightly louder as she starts shivering, while tears from both Peso and Koshi slowly start making their way on her shoulders.

I looked it up and read through the reviews. Which didn't help at all. There were so many that gave five stars, but their reason is just "ok thanks" or "good". Then you have the ones that give one star and just say "disappointing" or something like that. It left me really confused. I didn't download the app. I love music and there was one reply that said that this app is better than Spotify, but I want a proper review before getting it. Maybe I will get it myself and give a proper review, but for now I'm a little suspicious of this app.

Occupation: ice and snow specialist
Located: Antarctica
Kind & loving
Protective
Family man
Secret snowball attacks
Gup-I
Likes: talking to Stella, making scientific discoveries
Dislikes: Caydence, disobedience

Backstory: Natquik has always been a bright wolf for as long as he can remember. Having scientists as parents, this was to be expected of him. So when his little brother Mark struggled with Math and Science, his parents dismissed it as laziness and distraction caused by others and decided to have him homeschooled. Despite their clear differences, the two brothers got along very well. They became very close. They were inseparable, or so they thought. Their parents noticed how much time Natquik spends with Mark and came to the conclusion that Mark was a distraction. So they sent Natquik to a boarding school. This is where Natquik spends most of his childhood and young adult life. Despite his parents’ efforts, Natquik stayed in contact with Mark. The two of them had each others backs through thick and thin, making the news of Mark’s death all the more harder to hear. He was shocked when his sister-in-law dropped off his niece with all of her belongings without any further explanation a year later, but gladly accepted Stella into his life. He though that his little brother was over exaggerating about his beloved daughter, as he always does, but Stella truly is…‘stellar’, as Mark always says.

Masterpost
My name is Bwela and I spend my free time writing stories. I have always had a wild imagination, so now I'm finally writing my stories down. I am working on an original story, an Octonauts fanfiction and an original voice acted series that I will post on YouTube.
If you're interested in Octonauts, I'm writing a fanfiction exploring the idea of what the future of the Octonauts -specifically their young relatives- could look like.
If you want to read on original story, I am currently writing a book with the title Shady Royalty. The summary can be found in the Shady Royalty section.
You can find my YouTube account here.
Feel free to ask me any questions concerning my characters, both original ones and ones from my fanfic, as well as any other questions you want to ask.

Anxious
Peso’s pov
Missing humuhumunukunukuapua'a part 1
Peso could feel himself getting warmer, despite having his cold suit on, at the thought of having to teach this group of excited little children how to do his job. As the medic, he’s the first one to have to teach the kids. All he has to do is teach them basic first aid, so why is he so nervous?
“Are you alright Peso?”, Kwazii asks. He had volunteered to help Peso if he were to suddenly blackout. Which is most likely to happen.
“Y-Yeah”, Peso answers. Although it’s pretty obvious that he’s lying.
“Remember when you had to teach our crew the same thing?”, Kwazii asks, “Back then, you were absolutely terrified of me.”
Kwazii laughs as Peso starts blushing. How could he possibly forget the events of that day? He is still deeply ashamed of how his fear caused him not to teach Kwazii properly, which could have lead to some serious problems. He had promised himself never to act that way again. With that, Peso realizes why Kwazii brought up that event.
“Thank you”, the penguins says.
“Anytime me hearty”, the pirate replies.
Peso takes a deep breath before entering the recently added classroom.
All of the kids stop talking and turn their gaze towards Peso. He gulps. Despite Kwazii’s previous efforts, he once again finds himself being nervous. Kwazii gently nudges him further into the classroom.
“Hello mateys, welcome to your first medical class”, Kwazii greets the students on Peso’s behalf, before whispering: “Ready whenever you are me hearty.”
Peso takes a few deep breaths before starting his presentation. In a brief moment of determination and passion, he finds himself on autopilot. He only comes back to himself once it’s time for the practical work. The students are working in groups of two, rapping a bandage on their partners arm. Kwazii is helping Squirt figure out how to bandage Pinto’s flipper, Stella and Koshi are doing just fine, but Ursa keeps on scolding her brother for making it too tight or not tight enough. Peso gulps. He knows better than to interrupt a fight amongs siblings. He had learned that the hard way. He looks over to Kwazii, hoping that he’s done with Squirt, only to be left disappointed. With no other option left, Peso takes a few deep breaths before waddling over to the twins.
“Hello Orson, hello Ursa, what seems to be the problem?”, Peso asks cautiously.
“Orson isn’t doing it properly! He keeps on messing it up!”, Ursa yells.
“I’m sorry”, Orson squeaks.
Peso felt bad for the young male cub. “Ursa, why don’t you go join a different group while I help your brother”, he asks. Orson’s face immediately lights up.
“Hmm…okay”, Ursa replies, before walking off towards Stella and Koshi.
Hopefully she’ll get along well with the girls, Peso thinks to himself before turning to face Orson.
“So, what exactly are you struggling with Orson?”, the penguin asks.
“I just can’t seem to figure out how tight to make the bandage”, Orson whines.
“Hmm…”, Peso hums, deep in thought, “Maybe you just need more time to learn how to do it properly. I’ll help you.”
Orson’s eyes widened. There was a hint of fear and gratitude in them. “Is something wrong?”, Peso asks.
“N-Not at all!”, Orson replies in a panick.
Peso looks the cub deep in the eyes for a while. “Are you sure?”, he ask. “Yep!”, the cub replies. “Alright. Let’s get started then”, Peso waddles to the front of the class to get some extra supplies.
The Octo-alert when off. One of the humuhumunukunukuapua'a has gone missing. The trio (Barnacles, Kwazii & Peso) are currently searching for it. His name is Humpert. He was last seen with his pod as they were being chased by some other type of fish. After hours of searching, with no success in finding him, they decide to call it a day and continue the search in the morning. Missions like this, missions where the fate of a creature stays unknown for an uncomfortable period of time, those are the kind of missions that Peso hates. He just wants everyone to be safe. He doesn’t want anyone to be hurt. Or suffer through something worse, something that Peso does not allow himself to think about. He can’t deal with that again. He just can’t. It would tear him apart. It would break him. It would destroy him.
Peso sighs as he walks through the empty hallway. The memories, they just keep on coming back. While fighting off the tears, Peso decides to check on his baby brother. Pinto, along with Orson, Squirt and Periwinkle, is fast asleep. He is safe and he is still here. Peso leaves the room as his tears win the battle and slowly start flowing down his face, while picking up the pace with every tear that falls. He stands in the empty hallways a little longer, deciding to let the tears flow, rather than bottling up his emotions. As he closed his eyes and let himself get consumed by the empty void surrounding him, he suddenly hears soft, quiet sobbing coming from the girls’ room. After a moment of hesitation, he whipes off his tears and goes inside of the room.

Getting along
Periwinkle’s pov
Periwinkle finds it hard to make new friends. Everyone else just doesn’t have the same interests as he does. They always call him a nerd or teacher’s pet. Now he’s slowly walking to a big group of kids his age, all clearly not interested in anything other than adventure. Every now and then, Peri notices the artic fox’s hesitation as they walk side by side. Seeing how much more nervous she is kind of calms him down. After what feels like eons, the two finally reach the group of kids.
“Hi Peri, hi Ella”, Pinto happily greats his companions.
“Please don’t call me that”, the fox practically whispers.
“Sorry”, Pinto replies.
“What’s your name then?”, Orson asks.
“Stella”, the fox replies.
“And you’re Periwinkle, right?”, Ursa asks.
“Y-Yeah”, Peri answers.
“We were talking about our families and our homes, would you like to join us?”, Orson asks.
“Yeah! Join us!”, Ursa enthusiastically adds.
Peri shoots a glance at Stella to see what she’ll do. She avoids his stare and looks at her shoes.
“What are your interests?”, Squirt questions, noticing the hesitation of the sea otter and the fox.
“W-Well”, Periwinkle begins after Stella still refuses to look up from her shoes, “I’m interested in marine biology, just like my mother and my uncle. I’d like to travel around the world, discover new things, maybe even have the opportunity to name a new species the way my uncle named the Vegimals.” Peri could feel himself getting jumpy with excitement. He had completely forgotten why he agreed to come out of his comfort zone until now. With hope that the same will happen to her, Peri returns the question towards Stella.
“Oh, uhhh…I’m interested in science, specifically biology and physics. I’m also interested in exploring.”, she said calmly. It certainly was not the type of reaction Peri was expecting, but it will have to do.
“What do you do in your free time?”, Squirt asks.
“Reading mystery books!”, Koshi yells in excitement.
“Trying to build the tallest watchtower out of snow”, Pinto says proudly.
“Polar bear wrestling!”, the twins reply in unison.
“Helping my mom”, Peri answers while rubbing the back of his neck.
“Cool! I love reading science fiction books. What about you Stella?”, Squirk asks. The whole group turns towards the pup. Her face goes from white to bright pink at an alarming rate.
“Oh, uhhh…I also like reading. A-And I like helping my uncle”, she stutters in response. The group does not keep their stare off her; they can all tell that she’s not done listing what she does in her free time. Stella nervously shifts her gaze rapidly from one group member to the other.
“Okay, fine, I also play the guitar and write short stories”, she quickly answers. Silence fills the room as the group processes what they’ve just heard.
“You write stories?”, Orson slowly cuts the silence. After a few more quiet seconds, everyone else starts bombarding Stella with questions and requests to read her stories. Noticing the clear uncomfortable and panic in the pup’s facial expression, Peri pulls her out of the small crowd. The plan was to comfort the pup and tell the group to calm down, but now that he’s got everyone’s attention on him, he froze.
“Um, maybe we should leave her be?”, he manages the squeak. The group says their apologies towards the pup. Peri tries to read her facial expression, but all that he can see is her left side, which is covered by her hair. Despite this, he can tell that she’s still a little nervous by the way she’s squeezing his hand. Not knowing how to comfort her, all that he could think of is returning a small squeeze. Her grip slowly loosens and she becomes less tense.
“It’s fine”, she finally manages to say to the crowd that was still apologizing. Koshi and Squirt still look guilty, and Pinto refuses to accept that ‘it’s fine’.
“It’s fine, really, it’s normal to get excited. I don’t blame you one bit”, Stella said in a soft and calming tone. The twins exchange a look. Awkwardness fills the room once again. Peri shoots a glance towards Squirt, hoping that he still has some questions left. The octopus notices the unspoken requests and awkwardly asks another question: “So…is there a particular reason why you joined this Octonauts training?”
“Our uncle of course!”, Orson exclaims with joy.
“Speak for yourself. I joined simply because I want to explore the Ocean”, Ursa says with a dreamy tone.
“I joined for the mysteries. And to help other creatures of course”, Koshi says with a twinkle in her eye.
“Explore, rescue and protect. That’s the Octonauts motto, and that’s exactly what I want to do. I’ll swashbuckle and shwash-bandage! Kwazzi and Peso taught me that”, Pinto explains proudly.
“I joined because of my uncle. It sounds cool to be able to discover new things”, Peri says, before mumbling to himself: “Although I’d prefer to help mom.”
“I joined because I would love to have the opportunity to help others and explore the open Ocean”, Squirt answers. All attention is once again shifted on Stella.
“ *sigh* It was a last minute decision done by my uncle. I think he wants me to make more friends my age or something like that”, Stella replies, while noticeably avoiding eye contact. Despite this, it is clear that she’s getting more comfortable speaking to the group.
“So…you don’t want to be here?”, Pinto asks, slightly confused.
“No, no, I don’t mind. I’ll certainly learn a lot from this experience”, Stella quickly replies. Pinto gives her an uncertain look. Peri himself is not sure wether he believes her. “I’m telling the truth!”, she exclaims in an effort to make the others believe her. The doubt in the crowd does not change. Stella sighs as her gaze falls upon an Octo-shoot. Noticing this, Peri tries to stop her from leaving by grabbing her hand, before noticing that he never let go of it in the first place. He simply squeezes her hand to grab her attention. She looks away from the Octo-shoot and shifts her gaze towards her shoes.
The kids continue talking to each other for a while, trying to learn more about each other. Peri and Stella stay quiet, only talking when spoken too. After what feels like a decade, the group is finally called to the HQ by captain Barnacles.
“Welcome aboard the Octopod, future Octo-agents. Each and every one of us is glad that you have decided to spend these next few months with us. We hope that you feel comfortable here and enjoy your time being an Octo-agent in training. We are currently traveling to Octo-agent Min to help her with her work. This will give you the opportunity to experience what it is like working in her field of expertise. You will have the opportunity to do the same with the other Octo-agents and the rest of our crew while we travel around the world exploring, rescuing and protecting along the way.”
The twins started applauding as soon as their uncle finished his speech, while the others speak excitedly amongst themselves. This training program is starting to sound more and more interesting. No wonder this was a valuable excuse for missing school, one that the principle accepted. The fact that they would be studying with the Octo-agents also meant that Peri would be able to spend some time with his mother during this program after all.
Maybe this won’t be as bad as he thought it would be.

Chapter 3
Stella’s temporary guardian
Tweak’s pov
All of the little ones have settled down in their room now. The Octonauts had spent the rest of the morning giving them a tour of the Octopod. Tweak proudly showed them all the new upgrades and extra rooms that have been added. Now the kids are unpacking their bags in the rooms she had added for the junior Octo-agents while they’re in training. Now she’s standing in the HQ with the Octonauts, discussing how the rest of the day should go. Peso was going on and on about important medical conditions of some of the kids, making sure Tunip pays close attention to all of the food allergies he’s mentioning. Tweak takes a peak out of the window into the wide, open ocean. The rest of the crew all have close relationships with at least one of the kids. Even Kwazii, who isn’t related to any of them, has formed a close relationship with Pinto. Tweak is the only one that doesn’t. Knowing that, she misses her home and her father even more.
“…Shellington with Periwinkle, Tweak with Stella and Kwazii and I will be with the twins. Understood?”, the captain’s naturally loud voice cuts through Tweak’s thoughts when her name is said. Everyone each says their form of agreement before going wherever it is they’re going. Not really knowing what to do, Tweak decides to go find Stella.
Arriving in the girls’ room, Tweak finds Dashi already helping out Koshi. “Do you need any help Stella?”, she asks. The fox lifts her head and looks her straight into her eyes. After a moment of her staring at Tweak, she finally replies: “Kind of. I need help re-folding my clothes.” Tweak walks over to her, kneels down and begins folding her clothes and putting them in her assigned wardrobe, a great silence upon the two of them. From the left side, Dashi and Koshi can be heard talking about mystery books. From the right side, Ursa can be heard telling the captain about everything she’s been up to in the North Pole. I should probably try and start a conversation with her. I’ll be her temporary guardian for a while after all.
“So what do ya like to do in your free time?”, the bunny asks. “Reading, writing, studying, helping my uncle with his work, watching the fresh snow fall, watching the sun set…”, Stella starts rambling on about the beautiful sights in the arctic. Wow, she seems really passionate about her home, Tweak thinks to herself. She can’t really blame her. There is no other place quite like home. After some small chat, Tweak starts noticing how Stella shoots a few glances at her every now and then. “Is there somethin’ wrong?”, she asks, “You have been givin’ me weird looks for a while now.” “I-It’s nothing. I’m sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. It’s just that…I have never seen a green rabbit before”, Stella tries to explain. It takes a while for Tweak to process what the fox just said. No one else has ever questioned her strange colour before. Maybe they just didn’t want to be rude. This fox one the other hand, can’t hide her curiosity. Tweak grins at that thought. “Yeah, it’s an unusual colour indeed”, she says with a smile. She looks over to Stella, who seems to be shocked by her answer. This just made Tweak smile wider. She put away the last piece of clothing before getting up and ruffling the pup’s hair. Stella shrieks in response. Tweak is starting to like this pup already.
With Tweak’s suggestion in mind, the two girls make their way to the game pod. Only to find Kwazii and Orson already there, playing ping pong. “Maybe we could do something else”, Stella suggests, “We should get to know each other more anyway.” “Good idea”, Tweak says, trying to think of where they should go. Maybe I should take her to the launch bay. I could show her how to play my video games and then we could talk while playing, Tweak thinks to herself. Leading the way, Tweak shows Stella where her room is. “How come all the others get a proper room, while you have this open space in the launch bay?”, is naturally Stella’s first question. “Don’t get your ears in a twist. I want my room to be here. Wouldn’t have it any other way”, with that, Tweak takes a bite into a carrot that she pulled out of nowhere. The pup tilts her head in confusion as she lets Tweak’s words sink in. “Okay…”, she finally answers, her voice portraying confusion and concern. “C’mon, let me show ya how to play”, she said, making hand gestures towards her gaming console.
An hour of more small talk, gaming and solving riddles later, Tunip comes in to let the two know that lunch is ready. Tweak gets up from the bed, looking back to see if Stella’s following her. Instead, she sees the girl’s head tilting once again, as she observes Tunip. “Did I say something wrong?”, Tunip chirps confused. That’s when Tweak realized that, other than the Octonauts, no one else knew much about the Vegimals. Looking at the curiosity portrayed on Stella's face, Tweak starts laughing. “This here is Tunip. He’s what Shellington calls a Vegimal. He and his crew are the ones in charge of cookin’ our meals. He may not necessarily speak out language, but he can still understand us”, Tweak explains. Tunip chirps happily while waving at Stella. Stella returns the gesture. “C’mon, let’s go see what the Vegimals have cooked for us today”, Tweak says while heading towards an Octo-shoot.
Tweak observed Stella throughout the whole meal. Stella, just like Periwinkle, never spoke unless spoken to. They both gave awkward and shy vibes. It’s obvious to everyone that they aren’t the best at socializing. Tweak has learned quite a lot about Stella and has gotten quite fond of her. She now worries that Stella won’t be able to make friends her age at this rate.
After dessert, the kids are told to get to know each other more. Orson, Ursa, Squirt, Koshi and Pinto enthusiastically go down an Octo-shoot, leaving Periwinkle and Stella behind. “Go on Peri, it’ll do you good to make friends your age”, Shellington said, trying to motivate the young sea otter. Tweak opens her mouth in an effort to speak, before getting interrupted by the captain: “You should do the same Stella. It will certainly calm your uncle’s nerves to hear that you have made some friends. That is one of the reasons why your uncle brought you here, isn’t it?” The captain’s voice is much more softer than it usually is. It sounds soothing, calming and reassuring. It’s not often that Tweak has the opportunity to hear his voice like that. Stella sighs and joins Periwinkle on their quest to make new friends. Tweak can only hope that all goes well for them.

Chapter 2
The new kid
Pinto’s pov
The octopod had raised above the sea and was now facing an icy ledge. On top of the edge of the cliff were two white wolves. Pinto scoffed. He had been the first one to be picked up, and had therefore watched all of the now cadets say their goodbyes to their loved ones. None of them were a threat to his mission of becoming the best, and this one doesn’t seem to be any different.
The two wolves walk into the launch bay paw in paw. The older one observes the place with curiosity. “I see that you’ve done some renovations to the Octopod.”, he said. “We certainly have”, Tweak proudly announces with a grin. The older wolf looks down at the younger one. He lets go of her paw and bends down to whisper something in her ear. Her ears flutter in shock, before settling down in the direction of the older wolf. She listens attentively. The rest of the crew awkwardly watches the duo, not knowing what to do. The older wolf gets back up and clears his throat. “Everyone, it is a pleasure to introduce to you my one and only niece; Stella”, he says, making huge hand gestures towards the little wolf. She stares at him with a sense of embarrassment and annoyance. He lets out a nervous giggle before walking towards captain Barnacles. “May I speak with you in private?”, he asks, his voice turning into a faint whisper barely heard by the little penguin. “Of course”, the captain replied with the same understanding smile on his face that Pinto had seen so many times before.
Pinto throws a judging look towards Stella. She doesn’t seem like much of a threat, but Pinto knows better than to underestimate anyone. Upon a closer look, he notices a scar, barely noticeable at first glance, due to being covered by her long hair. Taken aback by this discovery, Pinto lets out a small gasp. Stella’s ears twitch once again, followed by her eyes shooting towards Pinto’s direction. Wow, Pinto thought to himself, where did she get that scar from? Pinto absolutely has to find out more. He looks around to see if he can sneak away unnoticed, but notices the young wolf looking his way. He can’t tell what that look in her eyes means, but it made him feel uncomfortable. After what seemed like forever, she shifts her gaze towards Peso, who slowly waddles over to the wolf. Pinto takes this opportunity to carefully sprint away.
“I understand your concern. I assure you that we will take great care of your niece”, captain Barnacles says as Pinto quietly hides behind a few storage boxes. The captain gives the wolf a reassuring look, but the wolf did not seem convinced. “How can I trust that the others will take good care of her? They don’t know her as well as I do. They don’t know how to handle her in different situations. They don’t know the right and the wrong way to comfort her”, the wolf avoids eye contact with the captain and stares off into the distance. What’s with the strong reaction?, Pinto ponders. He quickly sneaks away to join the group before anyone notices that he’s missing.
Peso and Stella aren’t there when Pinto returns. He must be giving her a quick checkup and asking her for her medical report, Pinto thinks to himself. The others are chatting amongst themselves. Pinto slips into a conversation between Koshi and Ursa while occasionally looking around the room, trying to find anything out of the ordinary. The second Stella and Peso return, Pinto walks over with the hope to start a conversation with her.
“Hi Stella. Welcome to the Octonauts. My name is Pinto”, the little penguin stretches out his flipper towards his new comrade. Peso smiles at his brother, happy to see him giving the wolf some company.
“I’ll let the two of you get to know each other”, he says before waddling away, leaving the two kids on their own. Stella watches him for a while before turning her gaze towards Pinto.
“Hi Pinto. It’s a please to meet you”, the pup shakes his flipper in greeting.
“That penguin is my brother Peso. Isn’t he the coolest?”, Pinto couldn’t hide his excitement of being related to the medic. “Yeah, he is cool”, Stella replied calmly, “Must be nice to have a relative onboard.
Pinto watches as her eye wanders off. He looks at her for a while, before realizing that everyone of the kids has a relative with them on the ship, except for the wolf.
“Does it bother you?”, he asks. The look she gives him puzzles him. It almost seems like she’s judging him. I wonder what she’s thinking about.
“No, not really”, she finally answers.
“Really? You must be very brave and adventurous then”, Pinto puts a flipper to his chin, deep in thought.
“Not really”, Stella seems to be getting uncomfortable. At this realization, Pinto starts to panic.
“Did I say something wrong? You seem to be getting uncomfortable.” “No no, it’s fine. You’re fine. I just…I’m not…it’s not your fault”, the pup seems to be getting even more uncomfortable.
Pinto thinks for a while, before coming to the conclusion that the wolf just isn’t used to talking to anyone other than her uncle. Either way, Pinto is determined to become Stella’s friend.
“Listen, if you feel uncomfortable, then that’s okay. Take your time if you need too. If you ever need to talk, I’m always here for you”, Pinto said as gently as he could. “Thanks”, is all the wolf could say. She’s avoiding eye contact with the penguin.
Pinto stays near the wolf a little bit longer, before deciding to join Squirt and Orson. During their conversation, he notices how Stella seemed to take a deep breath before walking towards the lonesome Periwinkle. Pinto had tried talking to him before, but he was as shy and awkward as Stella. Now the sea otter and the wolf are both trying their best to have a conversation with each other.

Chapter 1
A new start
Natquik’s pov
Professor Natquik pulls on his hood before turning around to his empty living room. He sighs.
“Stella!”, he calls out, receiving nothing but his echo in return.
Natquik knew that she might rebel after having the chance to think through their conversation they had the night before, but he was not prepared for the possibility of needing to drag her all the way there. Stella rarely acts out like this. Whenever she rebels, she just gives him the silent treatment for a while. She finds it hard to stay mad at anyone for more than 5 to 10 minutes. In the rare case where she is mad at someone for more than 10 minutes, only a miracle would be able to spare them from her tickle torture.
Natquik slowly advances towards her bedroom. He carefully peers through the open doorway and observes. Usually, whenever Stella is really upset, you can tell by a fiery glow in her eyes. To the professor’s disappointment, she had turned her back towards the doorway. Looking for more clues to the pup’s mood, the professor notices a bright pink watch on her wrist. Stella absolutely hates the color pink, but that watch is the only gift she ever got from her mother. Upon further inspection, he realized that the color of her short sleeved hoodie is her father’s favorite color, a color that she has decided to make her favorite as well. Professor Natquik slowly enters the room, approaching the pup which caution.
“How are you doing pup?”, he gently lays his hand on the little girl’s shoulder.
“I’m fine uncle. Please don’t start worrying”, she answers. She looks up to her uncle and laughs at his puzzled expression. “I admit that I was a little bit upset before. But I’ve thought things through, once again, and have come to the conclusion that this is indeed a great opportunity that I can’t miss.”
Stella hops over some clothes that were scattered on the floor and takes out a notebook from under her bed. She turns back around to her uncle and gives him a reassuring smile.
“I’m almost done packing”, she says, “I’ll meet you in the hallway.”
Arriving at the front door, Natquik sighs once more. A nasty memory had been trying to make it’s way to the surface since the moment he laid eyes on the pink watch. It had already been about three years since Caydence gave away her daughter to the professor. He shivers at the memory of the traumatized look on the child and the open scar on her left eye. I hope she doesn’t think that I’m giving her away the way her mother did, the professor thinks to himself. At that moment, Stella enters the living room. “I’m ready uncle”, she says cheerfully. Natquik smiles weakly before heading out the door.
Throughout the first half of the ride, every time Natquik looked over to inspect Stella’s facial expression, she glowed with a sense of adventure. However, during the second half of the ride, she slowly started getting more and more nervous. The professor decided to wait until they arrive before checking on her, in order to discourage her from wanting to turn back.
“What’s wrong pup?”, he asks. He looks her deep into her ocean blue eyes. She looks back into his. There is a hint of worry in her eyes, and probably a hint of guilt in his own. After a moment of silence, she gives him a brave smile and answers: “Nothing at all uncle. Shall we get going?” For some reason, that answer made the professor even more guilty and anxious. Stella stands up, grabs her bag and walks towards the hatch on the floor in the middle of the gup. She looks back at her uncle and raises an eyebrow. Natquik sighs before opening the hatch and following her outside.
The two walk towards the edge of the icy cliff together, sit down and start the wait. Professor Natquik had tried to be early, as he usually always is, but out of nervousness he had made them arrive a bit too early. He turned his gaze towards his niece, his little brother’s favorite person. No one, not him, nor Stella’s mother, could ever compete against her when it came to who Mark loved the most. Once again, he inspected her face for any signs of emotion. After being unsuccessful, he tries looking into her eyes. Her eyes always portray her true emotions. Stella turns her head and meets his gaze. They sit like that for a while, each trying to decode the other’s true feelings. This often happened. They’re both awful at expressing themselves. After what felt like a decade, Natquik finally breaks the silence.
“Are you nervous?”, he asks. The arctic pup nervously fumbles with her long hair while carefully choosing the best answer. “Kind of”, she finally admitts, “It’ll be the first time that we’re separated for so long.” She looks down at the calm waters below them. Natquik stays quiet. “I…”, the little pup attempts to calm her uncle’s nerves with some reassuring words, but can’t seem to find the right ones. “I’ll be okay”, she finally says. She looks her uncle in his eyes and smiles. “It’s a great learning opportunity, and I’ll get to make new friends.” She continues smiling for a while, but gives up at the sight of the remaining guilt in her uncle’s eyes. She avoids his gaze and looks at the rising sun. “Besides, it’s too late to turn back now. At least I can enjoy watching one more sunrise with you”, with those words, she lays her head on Natquik’s shoulder. Finally, he is able to muster a smile. The two of them watch the sun slowly rise, until something orange appeared from underneath them. “The octopod”, Natquik whispers.

Octonauts - A new Generation
I'm currently working on multiple things at once. One of those things is an Octonauts fanfiction centered around all of the young relatives of the Octonauts that we know of. Min's little sister is not included because I only found out about her after I already wrote the first 20 chapters and I don’t have access to season 5 of The Octonauts so I don't know anything about her.
All of the characters in the fanfiction are from the original show and from Above and Beyond. The only exception is Stella, my OC. In this fanfic, she is professor Natquik's niece.
I'll be posting the first five chapters today, then I'll be posting the backstory and information on each of the characters (though I didn't write a backstory for the characters I know little about).

Chapter 1
How it all started
○●○ Annie's POV ○●○
It was another beautiful sunny day in the Nature kingdom. Annie smiles as she admires her mom's beautiful tulip garden. She always comes to tend to her mom's many guardians whenever she misses her mom's company. It's always bittersweet, spending time alone in the garden. It's a reminder of the woman her mom used to be, as well as a reminder that Annie can't use her powers properly to grow such beautiful flowers. Annie sighs sorrowfully. She decides to leave the garden before the bittersweet feeling turns into grief. She decides to go to an open space near the back of the castle. She aslways goes there to practice using her powers. The open space is more of an open field. Annie plans on making a garden of her own using nothing but her powers. She has been trying to do so for about a year and a half now.
Annie grunts in frustration as she continues trying to make a flower grow. At this point, she'll be grateful if she even grows a weed. Dandelions are her favorite plants after all. Like every other time she tries, no results are shown. Annie sighs in annoyance.
"Don't worry darling. You'll be able to grow the most beautiful flowers soon enough", a voice suddenly says from behind her. Annie turn to face the voice. Her eyes ligh up once she sees who's cheering her up.
"Thanks mom", Annie says with a smile. Her mom chuckles at the sight of Annie's renewed motivation.
"You never give up, no matter what happens. I admire your motivation and your bravery", her mom says lovingly.
"I try my best", Annie says while rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly.
"I can tell", her mom answers.
"Come on. You must be exhausted after putting in all that effort. Let's have some tea together", her mom offers.
"Together?", Annie asks in shock.
"Of course! It's about time we spend some time together", her mom replies with a smile. Annie couldn't agree more. She happily skips along as the two of them make their way back inside the castle.
---------------------------------------------------
Annie happily hums to herself as she makes her way to her room. The hallway leading to her room is filled with all kinds of plants from the floor to the ceiling. The scent of tulips dominating over the other flowers.
Some day, Dandelions will dominate this hallway! Annie thinks to herself. She giggles cheekily as she starts planning out how to change the esthetic of the hallway to match her liking.
Annie opens the door and finds Samantha dusting her bookshelf.
"Hi Samatha!", Annie says cheerfully.
"Hello princess. Your back earlier than usual", Samantha comments in her usual calm tone.
"Today was amazing! Sure, I didn't get to practice for that long, but I finally got some quality time with my mom!", Annie explains enthusiastically as she lets herself fall on her bed.
"That sounds amazing princess", Samantha says dryly.
Annie sits up and looks at Samantha with a raised eyebrow. Over the years that they have known each other, Annie has learned to pick up small details about Samantha's demeanor that others would otherwise not notice. Samatha always speaks calmly and her facial expression is always tranquil. However, Samantha usually speaks in a kind way to Annie. Wether it's because Annie's a princess or because they have a close relationship is something that Annie isn't so sure of.
"What's on your mind?", Annie asks curiously.
"Hmm? What do you mean?", Samantha asks innocently.
"I can tell that something is bothering you", Annie says playfully.
Samantha does not answer. She just continues dusting the shelves. Annie sighs.
"Fine. If it's personal, then I won't force you to tell me", Annie says begrudgingly.
"Thank you princess", Samantha says calmly.
"Please call me Annie. At least while it's only the two of us", Annie gets up and walks towards Samantha.
"I can't do that princess", Samantha replies.
"Pleeeaaase!", Annie begs while hugging Samantha. Puppy eyes would never work, so she always uses a comforting embrace instead.
"I'll think about it", Samantha decides after some hesitation.
"Yay!", Annie cheers.
"You do realize that when someone says, 'I'll think about it', it's just a polite way of saying no, right?", Samantha comments.
"Only 85% of the time!", Annie says cheerfully.
"You are too optimistic for your own good", Samantha says with a sigh.
"But that's a good thing, right?", Annie asks. Samantha chuckle slightly.
"That's up to you to decide", Samantha replies. Annie smiles. She loves it whenever she can make Samantha chuckles or smile.
---------------------------------------------------
Annie hides under the windowsill and listens in on the maids arguing. She had been secretly following Samantha around for a few days now. As the days went by, she grew more and more concerned by Samantha's behavior. She decided that we would get to the bottom of the matter despite Samantha refusing to tell her anything. So now she's eavesdropping on an argument between Samantha and another maid.
"It's only for a few days. I just need to go and warn the king", Samatha explains calmly.
"Oh please. This is just a sad attempt of an excuse to get a few extra vacation days", the other maid says in a rather rude way.
"This is not an excuse. The king- ", Samatha tries to explain further, but is abruptly interrupted.
"Sammy, honey, I am sick and tired of you asking me to take over for you. If you approach me about this one more time, I am reporting you to the queen. If your excuse is as legitimate as you make it out to be, then surely you can bring this issue to her to begin with", the maid declares impolitely.
Footsteps are heared leaving the area. Then a sigh. Annie cautiously peaks through the window to look outside. Samantha pinches the bridge of her nose.
"This is never going to work", she says quietly to herself.
Despite being confused on the matter, Annie decides that she wants to help Samatha. She just needs to find a good enough excuse to give her permission to leave the castle...
---------------------------------------------------
"Mom?", Annie asks as she knock on her mom's bedroom door.
The door opens seconds later, and the queen stands before her.
"What's wrong honey?", her mom asks.
"Well...", Annie starts.
"Well?", her mom raises an eyebrow.
"Can we discuss this in private?", Annie asks.
"Sure", her mom answers while stepping to the side to let Annie inside. Annie happily walks into her mom's room. She pulls aside the desk chair and sits down.
"What can I do for you darling?", her mom asks while sitting on her bed.
"Well, I was wondering if I could go on some sort of field trip out in the woods for a couple of days to practice using my powers. I figured that it would be better to practice using my element while being in my element, you know?", Annie explains nervously.
"Out in the woods? For a couple of days?", her mom repeats skeptically.
"Yup", Annie says with a nervous chuckle.
"Annie. Do you realize how crazy that sounds?", her mom questions.
"Well...it's definitely one of my crazier ideas...", Annie admits.
Her mom sighs. "What made you want to do this all of a sudden anyway?"
"I just really want to learn how to use my powers. For as long as I can remember, I have never had any control over my powers", Annie explains. She looks down at her hands sorrowfully. "I just...I was hoping that maybe I could learn from someone. Since...since you mostly spend your time in here", she mumbles. She doesn't dare look up to her mom. "I was hoping to learn from Samantha. And maybe some other royals. I know that it's dangerous, but Samantha can keep me safe."
"She's blind", her mom comments blatantly.
"But powerful and smart", Annie counters.
Her mom sighs in frustration. "This is ridiculous Anne", her mom says.
"Pleeeaaase!", Annie begs, "Please, please, please, please, pleeeaaase!"
"Annie-"
"Please, mom, please! I promise I'll be careful! I'll be in the next kingdom in no time! And Samantha is capable of so much more than you know! I'll be fine!"
"Annie!"
"Please!"
"Fine!", her mom yells begrudgingly.
"Yay! Thank you so much mom!", Annie quickly gets up, runs towards her mom and gives her a tight embrace. Her mom sighs in frustration.
"Which kingdom do you plan on going to?", she asks.
"Uhh...I didn't think that far ahead...", Annie says hesitantly.
Samantha mentioned the king, right? There's only one current kingdom that's ruled by a king...
"The Light kingdom."
"Alright. I'll let the king know", her mom says with a sigh.
"Please be careful out there Annie", she says worriedly. She gently strokes some of Annie's hair out of her face.
"I promise that I'll be careful mom", Annie says reassuringly. Her mom hugs her tighter in response.
---------------------------------------------------
After running through the castle for what felt like forever, Annie finally found who she was looking for.
"Samantha!", Annie exclaims.
"There's no need to scream, princess. I'm blind, not deaf. Besides, your footsteps sound different from anyone else's", Samantha replies calmly.
"Huh? O-Oh...sorry about that...I guess I just got too exited", Annie says sheepishly.
"What's got you so exited anyway?", Samantha asks.
"We're going on a fiel trip!", Annie yells in excitement.
"A field trip? Where? Why?", Samantha asks calmly.
"To the Light kingdom! For training!", Annie explains happily.
"What? When?", Samantha's eyes widen ever so slightly.
"Now! Mom already let the king know that we're on our way. I'll go pack my stuff", Annie explains hastily.
"Alright princess. See you in a bit", Samantha says. She tries to speak in a calm tone, but her relief is seeping through. Annie smiles, pleased that she could help out Samantha. She quickly makes her way to her room and starts packing up anything that she deems necessary for this trip.

Description of the different kingdoms
In this universe, there are five different kingdoms with five different elements. The elements are Nature, Fire, Water, Light and Dark. And Wind, but they don’t interact with the others.
[To be completely honest, I completely forgot about Wind before. That's why they won't show up in the story for a while, I didn't plan on adding them. I'm working on a way to still add them to my story without changing it too much.]
From the bottom right to the bottom left, there’s the Water kingdom, the Nature kingdom and the Light kingdom. On the top right is the Fire kingdom and on the top left is the Dark kingdom. The Wind kingdom is located in the sky, where no one can reach it.
The Fire kingdom is a dry land. There is no open water source in the hot climate of the Fire kingdom. They get most of the food from the neighboring kingdoms. The main colour theme in this kingdom is cherry red and crimson red. The Fire kingdom has the bravest soldiers.
The Dark kingdom has all of the greatest scientists. Although for outsiders it is ment to look like it just consists of dark purple hues and shadows covering every inch, the insides of the buildings are decorated nicely and full of light. Every building has their own unique style on the inside.
The Water kingdom consists of both icy lands and open water. The icy surface contains sky blue, ice blue and electric blue. The open waters contain beach blue, teal blue and cobalt blue. The Water kingdom has the strongest army.
The Nature kingdom is filled with plants. There are flowers in almost every corner. It is the most colorful place in the whole nation. The Nature kingdom consists of farmers and florists.
The Light kingdom has the greatest medical system. The buildings are all pale yellow, but have their own unique style on the inside.
Shady Royalty
Summary
This story is about the princess of Nature; princess Annie. While training to strengthen her powers, she overhears her maid talking about someone planning to kill the king of the Light kingdom. Now she is on a mission to save the king and warn other royals about the mysterious predator.
Will she make it on time? Will she be able to make friends on the way that will help her on her journey? Or will she fail and watch the kingdoms fall?
Working on an original story
I have been working on an original story and will be posting each chapter both here and on wattpad. On this platform, I'll be posting extra interactions between the characters that those on wattpad won't have access too. I'll also post more information about the individual characters.
The name of the book is Shady Royalty. So far, I wrote four chapters and am writing the fifth one. I plan on making it into at least a two book series. Maybe I'll make more books in the series, but for now I'm aiming for two.
Please stick around and join me on this journey.
More Octonauts headcanons
Barnacles is the father figure of the whole crew (except for Dashi and Inkling)
Dashi is the mom of the group
Inkling is the grandfather
Inkling and Barnacles have a father-son relationship
Peso looks up to Barnacles the most
Barnacles is the nice parent that will get you a lot of gifts and often lets you off the hook with just a warning (unless of course you did something really bad)
Dashi will not hesitate to scold you whenever you do something stupid. If she takes it too far, she will apologize by giving you a small gift.
Everyone goes to Inkling whenever they need any sort of advice
Here are a few Octonauts headcanons that I have:
- Barnacles keeps Admiral Sweaty Sock (his sock pupet) hidden from the others
- Bianca has a slight Canadian accent while Orson and Ursa have a more British accent
- Orson looks up to Ursa and follows her around everywhere she goes
- while Ursa is adventurous, Orson is more of a stay at home guy
- Orson likes studying rocks and clouds
- Ursa gets impatient quickly
- Bianca calls Barnacles Barney sometimes
- Barnacles often gets pranked by Bianca
- (follow-up) He gets back at her by getting the twins to team up against her in a snowball fight
