I decided to splurge and bought a Cameo of Tim Downie as Gale broaching a delicate topic with his wife, Argent (star of my fic Mates). I love his interpretation of my prompt! When a wizard and a knowledge cleric get together, space for books goes fast.

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

This movie still brings tears of joy to my eyes when they first enter the park and see the dinos for the first time. It’s a masterpiece, that scene.

Gale of Sad Puppy Eyes

Many cats like to sit with one paw on their person. Mine like to pat my arm or rest a paw on me in a weirdly demanding way when they want their chin/head scratched. They like to rub their noses and foreheads against people to mark them as “mine” (Also known as ‘bunting’). Many cats will bunt people in the face/forehead/neck area if it is accessible.

I imagine Gale might sit down next to Tav and put a hand on their arm or leg to get their attention. I can definitely see him leaning his forehead against theirs, or rubbing his cheek against their face before or after a kiss, during a hug, or just in a quiet moment.

Cats often bring presents to their people as a sign of affection/care. This may be an animal (alive/dead/in parts) or a toy they like/sock/etc.) - usually left surreptitiously but in an obvious place - more accurately as a presentation.

I imagine Gale would enjoy leaving gifts for Tav on their pillow, or by their place at the dinner table - something small (in size), but hard-earned. A rare tome/herb/flower/wine (whatever Tav likes most), a useful artifact, a plate of cookies, some kind of work in progress (a fragment of a poem, notes on a spell he is working on…)

And I am most definitely convinced that he purrs… 😆

Having spent so long in isolation with only Tara for company, do you think Gale would have adopted some feline mannerisms? Would he, without thinking, headbonk Tav to show affection?

Sorry it’s taken me a while to respond, but I actually had to do some research on cat-specific behaviour because I’ve never had one and didn’t want to assume 😂

As I was surfing the Internet, what really jumped out at me was the description of how cat’s eyes can indicate happiness or discomfort.

If a cat is happy:

They slow blink — to show you that they are relaxed and being friendly

They have soft eyes — more almond-shaped than round

But if a cat is anxious or stressed:

They have big, round, wide eyes

DOES THIS REMIND YOU OF ANYONE???

But, let’s see, what other similarities can I think of?

Cats are great at hiding signs of distress and disease, even from their closest people (*cough cough* Morena *cough cough*).

They may have a reputation for being independent, but they need companionship. Not too dissimilar from our wizard spending much of his time in his tower, but really craving interaction, friendship, and love.

They are creatures of habit, liking to maintain a stable routine at all times. From the few things he tells us about his life in Waterdeep, I think Gale likes his routine, too.

They are fastidious groomers, and Gale certainly strikes me as someone who takes good care of his personal appearance (just look at his perfect hair, for one thing). I just hope Tav never walks on him licking himself 🙈😂

I’m sure there are probably more similarities out there, if some of my cat-owning friends would like to chip in???

That one lonely freckle on his right flank needs some attention. I adore it.

i’m never going to be over gale dekarios. he will live with me forever more. he’s bewitched me mind, body, and soul.

Honestly, if someone had told me just over 6 months ago that I would completely lose my mind over a fictional character, I would have laughed.

But look at me now — consumed by such endless yearning that it would power up a small city, if I could only harness its power.

There are many things I thought I would achieve in life, but becoming addicted to a bunch of pixels certainly was not among them. And neither was reading smut like my life depends on it.

What is it about him specifically that turns us into goo?

Is it the fact that his eyes go from sad cow to I’m-going-to-devour-you faster than an F1 car can go from 0 to 60mph? Is it his awkward rizz and atrocious puns? Is it that slutty waist and lickable chest? Is it his gentleman in the streets, freak in the sheets vibe? His unyielding love for those he cares about? His curiosity and passion for his field of study?

Is it all of the above? Quite possibly. The man was brewed in a lab for the sole purpose of driving us mad, I’m telling you.

Minthara was my freshman year roommate. She called the police to report me missing when I was not home by 1 am on a Friday. She dictated the music that could be played in our room. I was not to play John Lennon’s “Imagine” and I could not ask her to refrain from playing religious rap music. She questioned the rigorousness of my courseload, and introduced herself: “My name is Minthara, and I was the valedictorian of my class.”

After one semester, I moved out and ended up finishing the year with Karlach. Our loft had the nicknames of all of her “conquests” written on it. She took me to my first frat party, which was, of course, broken up by the police. We hid in a closet and then climbed out of a basement window to avoid getting caught. I made her study.

Bg3 companions as college roommates?

Wyll: Despite being a legacy admission, he isn't at all what you expected. In fact, he causes you to reexamine your own personal biases. He's rich, but humble. Privileged, but generous. Popular, but not because he's the son of a duke—in fact, he keeps that detail close to his chest—but because he devotes most of his free time to charity work. He also throws the wildest parties.

Lae'zel: A foreign exchange student. She's often crude and standoffish, constantly bragging that her education is superior. You don't get along at first, but you soon realise she's homesick and completely out of her element. You offer to help her adjust and she reluctantly, though gratefully, accepts. While you aren't sure if that makes you friends, she at least stops calling you "kainyank".

Karlach: This woman is insane. She doesn't take her studies seriously and always crams before exams, but somehow she always passes! You feel a tinge of jealousy, since you lack the same good fortune, but you can't hate her. It's impossible. She's a sweetheart who teaches you the definition of fun, often helping you unwind when you need to most.

Astarion: You don't get much of a chance to know him, as he sleeps all day and only attends night classes. What's worse, he gets expelled within the first week of attendance. You never figure out what he did or why, you only know that the chancellor seemed deeply, deeply traumatised.

Gale: Kind, attentive, eager to help you with your homework. He's a stellar roommate in every single way ... except for one. He has a habit of running questionable experiments in your dorm, often late into the night, which deprives you of valuable sleep. But he always apologises with a home-cooked meal, so you let it slide. Plus he has a cat.

Shadowheart: She's very tight-lipped and always turns out the lights, even when you're studying. You're not sure how to feel about her when you first meet, as she's rather aloof and melancholy. Halfway though the semester, however, she suffers a debilitating crisis of faith, which you happily help her overcome. When all is said and done, she considers you her new family.

Jaheira: She's more like a mother than a roommate. You learn quick that she's a strict taskmaster; you will not leave a mess around the dorm. Cleanliness shows dedication, after all. But you appreciate that. She cares. She wants you to succeed, despite barely knowing you, and she's always willing to listen when you need a shoulder to cry on.

Minsc: Heavens above, he's the dumbest man you've ever met. Part of you wonders how he even passed the entrance exam, until you discover he didn't. He failed. He's not a student. He just hangs around because he likes you. Yet, for some reason, you find that strangely endearing. Loud and clueless as he is, you feel safe when he's about, and you're quite fond of his hamster.

Halsin: He's the true definition of a "gentle giant". A chipper jock with a passion for nature and activity. He often drops keen wisdom that aids in your schoolwork, as well as your personal life, making him a near perfect roommate.

...If only he stopped bringing home dates for his late night hanky panky. You can't sleep.

Minthara: She isn't a roommate, you're just in her room. You should count yourself lucky she tolerates your presence at all. And you better not slack off, because if you do she will report you to the dean. School isn't a joke, and she expects you to take it seriously. Some people would kill to be in your position.
