People Who Say That House Hightower Destroyed The Targaryen Dynasty Are Kind Of Silly Because House Strong
People who say that House Hightower destroyed the Targaryen dynasty are kind of silly because House Strong is right there. Like House Strong really apparently wanted to get in on the action and just helped bring down a monarchy.
Harwin straight-up had illegitimate children with the crown princess. And yes I know it takes two to tango but Harwin could have stopped it, though as we see in episode 6 he is more than down with this arraignment. The fact that the children just kept coming out looking nothing like him and he still kept seeing Rhaenyra. After Jace he should have taken a step back, I guess he wanted to see if things would change with Luke? Clearly not. The rumors about Rhaenyra's children just tarnished her reputation and put a target on their children's backs. This was him supporting Rhaenyra too and all he was doing was making things worse.
Larys is a whole nother level. The man flipped sides more than a pancake on a stove. The man was plotting against everyone, I swear. He was undermining anyone who wasn't outright helping him. He even got some personal hits in by helping force Rhaenyra out of King's Landing and then poisoning Aegon. This man was made for chaos and he happened to be born in the right time for it.
Lyonel is rarely talked about but it needs to be said, if Viserys neglected the growing problems so did Lyonel. He watched for years as his son, the commander of the city watch, got close to the princess and her having children who looked suspiciously like him yet said nothing. It's not until Criston Cole mentions it that he confronts Harwin. Like just because no one has had the guts to say doesn't mean no one was thinking it. He said it himself Harwin is committing treason that can result in the exile/death of Harwin, Rhaenyra, and the children but again why say it this late?
Just when you thought all the Strongs were dead after Aemond's attack on Harrenhal, enter Alys Rivers. Whether you believe that she cast a spell on Aemond or not, she followed her family tradition of messing with the Targaryens. Intentionally or not, she led Aemond to Daemon and was there to witness them kill each other. Single handily, she killed two Taragryens as well as two dragons: Vhagar and Caraxes. Then she ran off with baby Aemondcito to vibe at her vacant family home.
Say what you will about the Hightowers, I have never seen such a collected group effort by one family (unintentional or not) to cause so much chaos to another family. They were on opposing sides at some points yet still through every step were petty and screwed over the Targaryens. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. This was mostly me highlighting how weirdly funny it is how involved House Strong was in taking down the Targaryens before they themselves went extinct as a house. No hate to anyone just weird how connected they are with everything.

targaryen purist bloggers are always saying like aegon ii is a DISGRACE its absurd a man so weak and craven is even considered part of the family his ancestors would be REPULSED by him. as if pathetic sickly drunken usurping mummy’s boy creep isnt several entire genres of targaryen
I heard that dragons share characteristics with their owners like Sunfyre-Aegon and Syrax-Rhaenyra
Sunfyre was protective, loyal, wild, powerful, small and young compared to other dragons, killed literally 3 dragons, being badly wounded, he managed to find his way back to Aegon.
Aegon took the throne to protect his family, was loyal to them, he was aggressive, fought in war and survive with a burnt body and crippled legs, he took the throne back.
Syrax did nothing during the dance, just killing a child.
Rhaenyra did nothing but watched as her family died in war.
Aegon and Sunfyre's bond is literally the most beautiful thing to me in this story. It wasn't common for Targaryens to outlive their dragons. We also don't know if Sunfyre had riders before Aegon. Probably he was born for him and died for him, and this is amazing and so very sad. They were literally two parts of one whole.
As for Rhaenyra and Syrax, the blacks usually say that "Helaena didn't fight after losing her child either." I understand that both women have been through this, and yet, in my opinion, Helaena's trauma was much deeper. She saw her son beheaded, she had to choose which child would be killed while her little daughter was threatened with r*pe. So yes, I understand why Helaena has withdrawn into herself, but I don't understand why Rhaenyra didn't do anything during the war.
Helaena x Aegon headcanons
I have not written anything fandom related in years but this pairing REVIVED me. I have a couple of fics lately but I currently have FOUR being written. Anyway here are my spicy Helaegon headcanons - engagement / wedding related.
Helaena and Aegon married shortly after Driftmark (the episode). They could have been married sooner but because of Laena’s death it was postponed.
Before their marriage, Helaena resigned herself to dreadful duty - she would do it, for an heir, and spares to the throne. She approached the marriage bed as a necessary task. She looked forward more to the pregnancy and the future children. He was also reluctant, not sure if he could even summon enough desire for the deed, as Helaena was only his sister to him.
Everything changed the first night they slept together. Perhaps, their bond as sister and brother only heightened their passions. Aegon is completely consumed and obsessed with the fact that she was born for him. Helaena who accepted her destiny with dread was pleasantly surprised that sex can be pleasurable and even fun.
Aegon is quite ‘experienced’ and dreaded having to bed a virgin (also scared of hurting her), but during their first encounters Aegon absolutely loved that he was the first to take her.
Despite having no experience, Helaena doesn’t have qualms about sex and sees it as something normal. Its Aegon who was more nervous since he’s scared he’ll hurt her or if it will be a bad experience for her. Helaena didn’t expect she would feel such desire for him.
The young couple enjoyed bedding each other so much that the first few weeks of marriage, you could hardly see them in the castle. Their servants discreetly had to organize things the few moments they are out because things could be pretty rough in their chambers. Even the women blush at how their innocent princess turned out. ;)
After the wedding, they spent a week or two in Dragonstone (in a separate area than Rhaenyra’s) alone together at the insistence of Aegon. Helaena cherishes those few days alone with her husband outside of court.
Sex got better after having kids. Helaena has grown confident in bed and can sometimes be the dominant one (Aegon doesn’t complain, though).
