student self-care: but not necessarily the feel-good kind edition

1. what have you been procrastinating on? afraid to do? make a list. put it on your google calendar. be very honest with yourself. put every single task you have to do, schedule it, block out your calendar if you have to. it’ll help you in the long run even if it’s scary at first.  2. sort the loose papers settled at the bottom of your backpack. don’t risk losing precious class notes or syllabi or readings. use folders to classify them by subject. label them clearly. sort them by chronological order and label what class and what part of the syllabus they’re from. you’ll thank me during exam season. 3. evaluate your finances. have a way of keeping track of them. personally, i tend to spend a lot on food and coffee when i’m stressed. make a budget and stick to it.  4. if you’re struggling in a certain subject, make some time for it. i know it’s painful and easier to procrastinate, but make time. set a certain quota of pages to read. email your professor for help and consult if you have to. 

5. eating healthy isn’t necessarily eating delicious. i know everyone posts their croissants and lattes and cakes (guilty) but eat that salad, eat your vegetables, eat a balanced diet. it’s brain food and it’ll sustain you and help you focus better. 6. take the time to really care for yourself. make it a routine. take daily walks, count the glasses of water you have, make sure to shower regularly. do your laundry and clean your room. take your medication regularly, schedule doctor’s appointments if you need to. your health is much more important than school, and your wellbeing will help your performance. 7. sleep is good. regular sleep is good and necessary. but know when you have to sacrifice a little sleep to get things some very hard things done. then sleep after.  self-care isn’t always pretty. sometimes it’s about being disciplined and confronting what you’re afraid of. but it will make things easier and lighter for you in the long run. just one day at a time. 

Some rad Dio trivia from JJBA: Over Heaven not many people seem to know/remember about:

Dio’s mother was of noble blood (or at least origins) and it’s suggested she might’ve eloped with his father

Dio received most of his early education from his mother

He used to be made fun of because of his mother’s kindness and naivety in the slums, which is why he thought she was foolish, but retracted (to an extent) on that statement later on in his life

His mother never stopped defending his father, no matter how abused she got

His father selling his mother’s dresses for booze was the direct reason for Dio killing him

The 14 phrases used to enter Heaven in Part 6 are in fact a lullaby Dio’s mother used to sing to him to help him fall asleep.

His mother was also very pious and would often talk about going to Heaven.

Dio was going to have a sibling (to which he quite caringly refers to as “little brother” or “little sister”) but his father’s abuse caused his mother to miscarry. He still remembers that 100 years later and wonders whether some of the women he’s impregnated could’ve miscarried due to to him being a vampire.

He is aware that he has children, or at least that he got women pregnant (again, he doesn’t know how many of them miscarried/aborted)

He purposefully chose “wicked” women as mothers for his children, thinking they would raise kids better than his own  kind mother did (he was even willing to have a child with Enya had she been younger).

He’s not afraid of potentially going to Hell, as he thinks whatever may await him there can’t be worse than his childhood.

Dio’s legal name is actually Dio Joestar since George did properly adopt him. However, even after the change people at school still called him ‘Brando’. (He preferred Joestar over Brando, but ultimately rejected both last names)

Similarly, he would rather call George his father over Dario, but didn’t like either of them.

The primary reason behind his hate for the Joestar family is the fact he considers them to be ‘inheritors’ aka people who never had to work or fight for their privileges.

He compares Jonathan to his father, who never worked for anything in his life, but at the same time realizes his wish to crush him is similar to his father’s abuse towards his mother and feels disgusted with himself.

He bears HUGE respect towards Erina, constantly comparing her to his late mother and even calling her a ‘holy woman’, to the point of getting actual delusions. He doesn’t say a single bad word about her throughout his entire diary. Seriously, people who say Dio hated Erina need to take a moment to reconsider.

The concept of ‘holy women’ keeps coming back to him - other women he’s called that include his mother, Sherry Polnareff and Holly Kujo. And he’s very far from being a misogynist, contrary to popular belief. 

Jonathan’s unwavering kindness towards him genuinely hurts him.

He says Jonathan is the only man he’s ever respected.

According to Dio himself, the reason behind his Stand’s powers is related to the scene from the manga when he borrowed a pocket watch from Jonathan and never had a chance to return it - he said he “wouldn’t return the watch until it stopped”.

He believes things could’ve turned out differently had Mary Joestar been there to raise him.

Had he not been a vampire, he would’ve liked to master Hamon

He wanted to save Holly for the sake of keeping things at peace with Joseph and Jotaro, but couldn’t think of any way of helping her.

He thought there might be some sort of “gravity” between him and Diavolo and wanted to meet him before dying.

It was Erina who saved him on the ship and they both used the infamous “Schrodinger’s Coffin” to escape. She just left it earlier. Also, Erina held no grudge against him (again, to an EXTENT)

The last thing he heard/“saw” before falling into 100 years long coma was his mother’s request of him becoming a good, noble person who can go to Heaven. Go figure.
