K here Is the thing. In every other adaptation he genuinely cares for Lydia and is her buddy, only makes moves on the adults, uses humor effectively to get favor from the audience, and is fleshed out a whole lot more.

The Beetlejuice movie was really about the Maitland's and Lydia, with Beetlejuice being the one to push them into doing anything.

In the musical it is *his* story. Well his and Lydia's He is the one who's starts us off and then hands over the mike to Lydia so she can get in on the action. That both have hard lives, fricked up relationships with parents, and after the show is over have grown and made new connections with others. **THIS** is what makes him lovable, seeing him grow and learn and make jokes throughout the show

Haven't seen the cartoon but instead of being a predatory guy with evil plan and no consent (like the movie) or simply wanting to be seen/not be so lonely (like the musical), he just is Lydia's chaotic and fun loving uncle buddy. His whole point is to be her friend and go on wacky adventures so it is a very cartoony and fun dynamic.

I love that the original beetlejuice movie went "this is beetlejuice. He's only in the movie for like 10 minutes and he's a disgusting, unpleasant man. Everybody hates him, and they're right to do so." and every other beetlejuice adaptation went "nah fuck that anyway hes cool and we love him".
