Dear anybody trying to teach a self defence class, I know that you cannot dismantle rape culture through your class and that sometimes it is necessary and advisable that you teach girls and young women how to fight off an attacker but please- PLEASE Make sure that instead of just telling us to wear "sensible footwear" when walking alone, to change into trousers after a night out, to "just wait for the next lift", to make sure that we aren't "dressed inappropriately", and that the best way to be safe is, and I quote "Don't be there!"... Please tell them that It is important.
