@wiggybe I wrote another little short-story to go with my ask (Personal Head-Canon that Dictatious refers to Jim and “James” both to himself and when addressing him on the rare occasions when he doesn’t use “Troll-Hunter”).

This story is from Dictatious’ point of view.

“You’re giving him another chance?!…… AFTER EVERYTHING HE DID?!”

James’ voice was raised to an unusually high-pitch, his gaze flaming with a mixture of anger and disbelief.

“Oh shut up!”

Dictatious snapped, equally as peeved by his student’s attitude.

“It wasn’t your choice to make, Boy”

James scoffed.

“Not my choice?…… Dictatious he blinded you!”

Letting out a trollish-hiss, Dictatious took a threatening step forward.

“Losing your touch Dictatious?……..”

Blinkous sneered from his place on the far-side of the Dungeon-Room, a medium sized cage suspended from the ceiling.

“The brother I knew would have already silenced this whelp, might I suggest Corporal-Punishment?……”

“SHUT UP!”

Dictatious growled, focus never leaving the boy despite now relying entirely on sound to guide him.

Prehaps he was going soft……..

“He could have killed you, would have, and you’re sheltering him!”

James’ voice was almost pleading.

“Please…… you have to rethink this!”

Some of the ire faded from Dictatious’ being, of course, Blinkous had probably been the one to torment James in the Darklands, it was natural for him to be shaken, but still.

“He’s my brother”

The elder sighed, voice leaving no more room for argument.

“The choice in mine to make”

For a moment, James looked conflicted, blue-eyes blinking in time with an uneven breath.

“If he doesn’t change, you’ll let me kill him?………..”

Dictatious was taken aback by such a remark from his usually Too-Soft student, but nodded, realization of just how much the boy must have changed in his absence dawning on him.

“Then I won’t raise any more fuss”

Turning away, the boy made to leave, swiveling his head to make one last point of eye-contact as he did so, despite knowing that his Mentor would be unable to return the gaze.

“Good Luck”.

Guys we got a lot going on political wise now but this one is one issue that should have been cut and dry and done. Call your rep ASAP so they don’t forget to do this. Probably mention this would be the easiest legislation they would ever pass and get done

When I complain about being a ‘gifted’ kid who grew into a talentless adult I don’t mean that I’m not trying to work on my talents or anything

It’s just a weird thing that happens and it feels shitty when you’re brought up being told you’re an exceptional child only to realise as an adult you’re just average
