I think we need to start re-empathizing that one rule in manners and etiquette, with a bit of an update to better reflect the times: "If you have nothing nice to say, than either say 'No, thank you; thanks, but it's not for me/not my style; or say nothing and MOVE ON!"

My mother drilled into me as a kid that I'm not going to have the same likes as everyone else and that there was no need for me to purposely be mean and hurt someone's feelings when they made something they like to share with others that I did not. Now, she may have been referring to others cooking and crafting hobbies, the etiquette rule certainly applies to a VAST array of things, which includes fanfiction.

Thank you for what you've written, and don't ever feel pressured or stressed - fanfic should be something good for all of us; both reader and writer.
