So Where Exactly Do You Get All Of The Rings And Stuff You Use In Your Projects From?

so where exactly do you get all of the rings and stuff you use in your projects from?

Hi there! I’m going to call you Frank!

I get all my chainmail supplies from a magical place called The Ring Lord Dot Com! They’re the largest chainmail supply company out there, and they’re the only people who punch the scales I’m so fond of. If you want to buy in bulk, Frank, they’re the place to go.

In fact, check out what just arrived in the mail today!

So Where Exactly Do You Get All Of The Rings And Stuff You Use In Your Projects From?

Delicious, delicious rings and scales. But if you’re thinking of learning chainmail, Frank, don’t try to eat them until you’ve got a lot of experience under your belt. It’s an advanced technique.

Im Opening A Window To Request Dragon Tail Commissions! If Youd Like A Tail, Read This Informative Page,

I’m opening a window to request dragon tail commissions! If you’d like a tail, read this informative page, then fill out this form by Midnight on Sunday July 24 Eastern US time. I intend to take on 2 or 3 tail commissions to be completed by the end of August.

I do expect to receive more requests than I can do in that time, and I will choose which ones to take on based on how smoothly I can complete the request, whether you’ve requested previously, personal style and material preferences, etc.

Drop me any questions you have!

What if I wanted my tail to be a bit longer? Maybe 40in? What would that cost me

$340 base price for 40 inches long.

I will note: If the tail is long enough that the tip of it drags on the ground, those scales will get scratched up. It would be best to choose a material that’s very strong and resistant to scratching, like stainless steel, if this is your intent. Other metals like bronze or brass could also be OK, since they’re the same metal color through the whole body of the metal. But anodized aluminum has the double problem of being both a soft metal, and the color is only on the surface, so it scratches easier than other metals, and the scratches show through.

Hi, I'm new to scaling and I'm trying to put together a tail. I've noticed that you use a tool to help you put together the patterns, but I can't seem to find anything like it. Would you mind sharing a link?

Hello Anon!

The tool I use when planning out a tail is really just a .svg file I made in Inkscape. Inkscape is a relatively simple vector drawing program (like Illustrator). It’s free and open source, and you can download it here.

Here’s a link to a slightly-cleaned-up version of the file I use. I can’t give much of a tutorial on drawing programs, but The Internet can. That file basically just has all the interesting tails I’ve laid out patterns for. Not all of them were actually made, some were multiple options for the same commissioner.

I should probably update that to be a real template with my current standardized sizes at least, and a pallet of the colors I stock. But that’s a project that’ll take a couple hours some other day.

Anyway, happy chaimailing! If you do make yourself a tail I’d love it if you could send some photos my way, I always love seeing when other people try their hand at making these things I do.

I Decided To Make One Of Those Dog Masks The Kinksters Seem To Like. I'm Nearly Done With This First

I decided to make one of those dog masks the kinksters seem to like. I'm nearly done with this first prototype copy, I just need to make the ears and pound in the rivets for the straps.

I’m decently happy with how the snout turned out. Though to be honest the primary goal for this was to work out a system for attaching big masks to your head with straps and buckles. I’m hoping to be able to use the forehead/sideburns base format to make other things like a less encompassing version of a plague doctor, or a dragon, or anything else that would want to project out past the front of your face. And hey, it works with my glasses! So that’s fun.

(And excuse the shoddy bathroom selfie, I just wanted to get something posted.)
